The only logical move would be the Big 10 or maybe Conf USA or whatever it's called these days.

My intent isn't to talk smack and in spirit I am not, but if the SEC was looking to expand to a northern market, Toledo would never be able to hang....at least as it stands now. They might win a conference game every 5 years by some fluke. Just honest talk here.
All I am saying is there is nothing wrong with the MAC.
Do they still play those Thursday night games.....they did for a long time. Maybe it was a Wednesday night game.
I love college football. I can watch it all day long....and do. If it wasn't for the Browns, I'd watch very little NFL football. Due to location I jump the Falcons or Titans bandwagon when they have something going, so this year, the Falcons are interesting.
My passion is Browns football...you know that, but I love college football.

If you want to talk about pie in the sky dreams... if Toledo could ever somehow join the Big Ten... I fully believe that in about a year or two they'd be entrenched as a "second tier" program in the conference (and yes I'm just speaking football here). Below Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Nebraska - on par with programs like Iowa, MSU, PSU and Purdue - clearly better than Indiana, Northwestern, Illinois and Minnesota. You'd have up years - you'd have down years - but you would not be a doormat "once a decade you have a fairly respectable team" program.
The problem is money... driven by fanbases. Toledo and the MAC as a whole have the same common problem - not enough "me's" who could give less than a flip about an Ohio State or Michigan or Notre Dame and only root for their school. It's the way people are raised here in the midwest - 99.5% of the daddies around here aren't dreaming their kid plays middle linebacker or wide reciever at Toledo/Kent/BG/OU, they're dreaming they do so in Columbus. They don't have "man caves" dedicated to MAC schools, but by God they have one for the Maize and Blue.
How many of you here who went to a MAC school still love OSU and hop back on the bandwagon only when your school has a solid year going - or beats a "big" school? Probably most.
That's never going to change without years of sustained excellence - but again, because of money, it's ultra rare to keep a coach in the MAC who has success because some middle of the road Big Ten or other conference school can write a bigger check. It's a continuous cycle.
All that being said, I can't see Toledo moving soon nor do I want them to - outside of my pie in the sky Big Ten dream. CoferenceUSA and the Big East are a joke... Indepedant - nay. Stick where you are... get back to winning championships and consistent rankings, build your fanbase and program and facilities and set yourself up as well as you can for the next round of "conference shuffle".
And, IMHO, we don't need BG for anything.

Great game, glad I got to watch it on ESPN 3. Reminded me of when I was in school there and got to storm the field after upsetting the #9 ranked, Larry Fitzgerald lead Pitt Panthers. Great memories.

to all the OU fans. i believe OU was not ranked in the BCS standings last week. however, this week, they have cracked into them at #24 (2 spots below Michigan and one ahead of Wisconsin): http://espn.go.com/college-football/bcsis this the first time ever that OU has been ranked in the BCS standings (they have only been around since '97)?

sorry I didn't respond, but I felt I didn't trust them for some reason and didn't have time to look up why (as I couldn't remember).
they got toasted by Kentucky of all teams and have only beaten middling to bad teams thus far. Ball State is by far their best win.
OU beat Penn State (though has been too close against some lesser teams)
Toledo just beat Cincinatti and went to OT vs. Arizona
now, Kent State has another shot at proving itself a worthy team this week vs. Rutgers. if they hang tough with them, then they'll get their due

People forget that Kentucky football was at least respectable under Rich Brooks. We're never going to be an Ohio State, USC, Alabama, etc., but once we get rid of Joker and hire someone competent, we're going to be back to being that team that goes 7-5, 8-4 and gets a decent bowl game.
Kentucky football is like the Browns right now. TONS of young talent just waiting to break out, but being held back by a pathetic coach.

good thing Kentucky hired from within with Joker rather than going with the rumored pursuit of David Cutcliffe (at the time). I mean all he's done since then is get Duke to it's first bowl game since the original Browns were still in Cleveland.

I hear Cutcliffe on the radio all the time around here. He is a very likeable guy and really seems to be recruiting well under difficult circumstances and getting the most out of his players... he's also capitalizing on the ACC getting even weaker, which is hard to imagine was possible.

yeah, Cutcliffe really is doing a nice job there as he did at Ole Miss. He should be the first coach called for any of the football factory schools that need a coach soon (Auburn may be dialing him up soon - or *gasp* Texas).
VaTech isn't going to win 10games, which is really strange.

Honestly, I hope he does too. I just know that's not how it works in the coaching world. If he goes 9-5 or so this year, then he'll (rightfully) be high on every single coaching vacancy list. And, if he doesn't get the offer he wants this offseason, then he'll be on next year's list too.

I have a really bad feeling about Saturday.
Buckeyes lose, and Penn State fan rushes the field, acting like that program is somehow absolved of the atrocities that happened over 2 decades.
I will be sick to my stomach. I'd almost rather lose to Michigan.

Penn State fans, students and players did not commit said atrocities yet will be punished for years for them - I'd have no problem at all with them rushing the field should they win.

I agree, i know Kent is not as good a team as OU or Toledo, but after years of bad foptball, 6 and 1 feels good. I work at Kent St and get a chance to see and talk to a lot of the players and coaches, including Coach Hazell. He is such a great guy, he met my son who hates football and stood there and talked with him about Harry Potter for ten minutes. One time we were doing OT at The MAC center, where his office is. We are just on call during events and was sitting in the maintenance closet and Coach walks by and comes in and sits down on a bucket and sat there and BSed with us for a half hour. He laughed and told us he would rather sit there with us than going back and watching game film. This was the Monday after The Kentucky game.
Dri Archer is also one hell of an exciting player

Reggie Bush won the Heisman...I saw him do it.
My favorite was watching Seattle a few weeks ago...and hearing the announcers talk about Pete Carroll National titles win at USC....they don't realize officially he won ZERO.....Probably because they saw him win....just like I did.
I hate the NCAA punishes student, players, and fans that had ZERO to do with anything post actively.....because they don't investigate pro actively.
I have always thought that Reggie Bush should have been able to walk to a podium and say...."ah...you got me....you got me....but since I am already out of school....I WIN!"
Bush should not have been allowed on the field...instead he got to be the best player in the country.....go to NY...win the Heisman...and get drafted #2 overall...earned MILLIONS of dollars in NFL...and MILLIONS more in endorsements..

my favorite part of the Reggie Bush hypocrisy was that they punished USC for what Reggie's parents did, but then absolved Auburn for what Cam's father did.
the difference?
well, they could have said that Reggie's parents actually received the benefits while they couldn't prove that Cam's Dad ever did more than demand benefits. however, that is not what they said. they said that Cam was not responsible for his fathers actions.
so, the only real difference was that they caught Cam's dad during a potential Heisman and National Title run. but, they caught Reggie Bush's parents afterwards. that means they couldn't make any more money off of Reggie, so they might as well sanction him.
same thing goes for them turning a blind eye onto the tattoo-pack for the Buckeyes in the Sugar Bowl game, then deciding afterwards that they would take that win away from Ohio State.

I would suspect Tenn would be a big game player in going after Cutcliff.... I like Dooley as a person, but they've been horrible under him... and Cutcliffe has ties to UT

I believe Ohio State tries harder than any D1 school to beef up there schedule year in and year out. Even in doing so the national media does nothing by ridicule and hate on Ohio State football. Sure they play the MAC every year, but the SEC plays the Sun Belt.

I don't know about that. Mostly what I hear is the national media saying that an 8-0 OSU team isn't nearly as impressive as an 8-0 LSU or Alabama team because of the level of competition.. or even a 7-1 SEC team. It's not OSU's fault that the rest of the Big 10 doesn't play at that level....
