Wonder if it's just going to be more finger pointing like all the TV ads...ugh. How 'bout talking about what you WILL do instead of what the other guy does or doesn't do?! So tired of it.

They are going to be more concerned about not making the big mistake as opposed to actually answering questions.

When has a debate ever influenced anyone by having a candidate answer questions? It's the trip ups and "gotchas", along with the zingers we remember ....... and that get the publicity.

I heard on the radio tonight that the candidate that blinks less during the debates has never lost the election. I'm just thinking we should take bets on how many times O rolls his eyes or smirks.

Another bold prediction here...fox news will say Romney won and all of the other networks will say Obama did. In reality no one likely won as the just pointed fingers the whole time.

Steve Jobs should have run for president then. He taught himself at a young age not to blink when talking to people because he thought it was intimidating.

I think that both Obama and Romney have to be careful about their facial expressions. Gore turned off a lot of people with his rolling of the eyes.

Both candidates will answer a question with a campaign speech ... no matter what question is given.

That is how any question goes....

"What color is the sky?"

R: "It doesn't really matter as the 47% of people who live off of the government don't care and won't be voting for me because they'd be voting against their own self interest as the other side has bribed them into voting for them with taxpayer money."

O: "The sky is red with the blood of the lower class from all the wealth the upper class holds on to. It is time for the truly wealthy class to pay their fair share."

... or they'll just go unanswered altogether. These guys are coached on how to pivot the discussion to their rehearsed talking points. IMO, these "debates" really are a waste of time.

I'm not sure why Obama hasn't countered the trickle down thing Romney just said.

These debates are going to be fun. Romney is looking polished and Obama looks excited by his challenger.

If someone was watching this with no prior prejudice or set in stone ideology, I'm pretty sure Romney would win then over 99% of the time.

Not crazy about either of these candidates, but Romney is killing Obama right now.

Hey Mitt, what would happen if we let states have the sole authority back in 1950-1960s with Civil Rights?

Seriously? That's a rather silly comparison. The states should absolutely have the authority over Medicaid. Have you seen the way the Federal Government handles just about anything?

My guess is that America would be completely different, perhaps even another civil war, and our country probably wouldn't have advanced as far as it has in a lot of areas.

What's that have to do with Romney, Obama (aside from being black), and Medicaid again?

Can we not comment on the responses of both candidates?

I think it's a fair question when either candidate talks about the power of the federal government vs state power.

God, do you know how refreshing it would be to just have someone up there that seemed real? Who wasn't afraid to say they didn't know but they'd do there best to find out? Who didn't turn every answer into a campaign speech just filled with power words. Someone who didn't try to sound perfect every time they talked? Who yawned, or made jokes that weren't fol the Cosby show? That straight up called other people out who are blatantly talking out of there ass?

Ron Paul has been doing that for years and hes just been muted by media and the parties.

It would be delightful...but, doubt we'll ever see it

Obama's continued talk about middle class is damaging. I think the correct way to talk about Americans would be to include everyone.

States would have come around at different rates, blacks would have had the ability to move to states that treated them better... and ultimately we would have ended up at the same exact place, probably with a lot less violence.

Now my turn... Hey Barack, since you want the federal government to control public education, medicaid, retirement, speed limits, welfare, unemployment, road construction, gay rights... what exactly is the point of states having a governor?

No, someone like that couldn't even come close to winning because that's not what anybody wants... we don't want it in our politicians any more than we want it in our sports figures... no matter how much some say they want it.

If somebody did that in politics they would be considered mean, spiteful, negative, etc.

Just like nobody wants a coach to stand up and say "we can't run the ball because our offensive line is horrible" or "boy we really screwed up when we drafted Jim X while Bob Y was still on the board because Bob Y looks a lot better right now" that coach would be crucified for his "honesty"

Not that simple. Always disliked that synopsis.

If you were poor and oppressed and lived in, say, Alabama, but you could be treated better if you found a way to get your wife and two kids to, say, Ohio ... it's just not that easy.

A part of me is very states' rights ... but we shouldn't rely on narrow sects to dictate policy. It almost always ends badly.

I am just going to speak generally here ....... but Obama looked almost completely unprepared for this debate. It continues a trend, where Obama has looked unprepared for a great number of challenges he has faced, almost like he doesn't need to go through this stuff because he is so much better.

Get ready for another round of Obama negative ads, because he really has absolutely nothing left at this point. He'll try to ignore the results of the debate ...... look for some gaffe they can try to use, but he really doesn't have anything to stand on as far as his track record.

Really? CNN CBS polls said Romney was a big winner. Guess it didn't matter to those people.

There is a spokesperson on the news right now saying that tonight was "A great night for the President because he got to lay put his plans".

She must have watched a different debate ..........

This is just so comical, predictable, but comical.

I didnt get to watch the debate, and most likely wouldnt have even if i could have. Its just kind of pointless. We all know what they are going to say, we all know what their talking points are. So we have all pretty much made up our minds so it just becomes a big show. Obama states his talking point, and all the Obama people applaud and cheer(I mean figuratively) while the Anti Obama people cry BS. The its the same cycle for Romney.

Like I said, I didnt get to see the debate. I have just tried to keep up a little on here and other places and its just hiularious. I guess the concensus mostly is Romney "won" the debate. So now The Romney supporters are doing their end zone dance while The Obama people are waving it off as inconsequential(it really kind of is) and if Obama had "won" his people would have been doing the same.

I will say, watching the spin machines from either side is pretty amusing.

I was actually pretty surprised about 2 things .....

Romney was incredibly prepared. He handled every issue deftly.

By contrast, Obama looked horribly prepared. He seemed completely incapable of defending anything his administration has done. His only passion was was for Obamacare. The rest of his performance was weak, ill prepared, and really embarrassing.

I would also add that I thought that Jim Lehrer did a really good job as moderator. I liked that he allowed more back and forth between the 2 candidates, because I like that style of debate. Let them challenge each other, and the points they feel are important. That happened frequently throughout the debate.
