Dude, I think you have me confused with someone who cares what you think.

When they hired Holmgren I thought it was a good move. Certainly the best that Randy ever made.

But I don't recall ever giving you any crap about it. Unless, of course, it was accompanied by the incessant Mangini loving of the time. Then I would have.

At any rate, I never expected Holmgren to stay beyond his initial 5 year contract so this isn't like it's all that big a shock.

But I will say that if Banner is given veto power over all football decisions, the folks that are doing cartwheels today might be rethinking that joy.

In the end all that matters is that the Browns get on the winning track. If this leads to that I'm all for it. I just question whether putting an accountant in charge of a football team is the wisest idea. We shall see.

Looks like it might be starting soon, more people roaming, camera zoomed in, added the NFL logo to the mic.

Edit: Or not, camera zoomed out and the room is still fairly empty even though I've seen at least 20 different people in shots....but apparently they keep leaving.

It's been stated that he WANTS to move to the football/player side of the business. We dont need a guy cutting his teeth on a franchise thats been
crap for 13 years!

Haslam has got to be smarter than that.

Ain't buying into that, but then I thought Haslam would show a little more class then to replace Holmgren on the first day he took over. I thought for sure they'd have done it in such a way that made it look as if it was holmgrens Idea, and I thought it wouldn't happen until the end of the year.

Doesn't look like any of that was right.. so, That tells me it's possible.. And that's scary as hell to me.

Banner running the front office doesn't bother me at all,, Banner running the football side,, I don't see where he's garnered any prior experience at that.

I think Mike Holmgren is not only a helluva coach, but a gentleman as well. I think he's smarter than to leave kicking and screaming about anything.

But again, I've been wrong almost all the way on this so,, I'm probably wrong again..

I have no problem with Carmen Policy, I mean Banner taking over just give these guys a chance. I think Holmgren helped put a fantastic scouting department together and also a fantastic coaching staff in place. I think it was DC a while back that said, Holmgren has already finished his job and that is essentially true.

Banner is a lawyer not a football guy and I hope he allows Heckert and his crew to play this thing out and if Shurmur goes, please just promote from within and keep these systems in place. Chilly or Jauron would be fine with me.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

It's official at the end of the year. Not today! Banner will be the President in about a week. And that's the only changes he said he's going to make (THIS YEAR.)

As the owner I think he SHOULD be involved in any big deals. Doesn't mean he won't hire people to do a job and then not let them do it. Might just mean that he wants to be involved in discussions and what not.

no, it's a snake draft. so Rooney's get first pick, then we pick 2, then they pick 2, and so forth.

Veto power over all football decisions would be a huge assumption at this point. I also think that his success at turning the Philly franchise around is largely being ignored while he is being vilified by the Philly papers (after a successful 10 year run) in the wake of his departure. And by way, ask youserlf how are things going there now that the lunatics are running the asylum?

I don't know where you get that he is an accountant. He did study economics, so I guess you could say he's an economist. He's also a sports reporter, a business man, a philanthropist and a successful NFL vice president and president who, again, turned the Philly franchise around. I'm not saying he'll do the same for us, but if I have Holmgren on one end of the scale and Banner on the other, I take Banner every time. As you state, we shall see.

wait, so Banner (who did not do player evaluations but did all of their cap work and contracts) is who you are giving 100% of the credit to the "success" at turning Philly around?

in the other thread you said Reid was NOT successful, which implies that Philly has not been successful and that Philly should have fired him 10 years ago.

so, Banner (non-football guy for Philly) gets all the credit for making them a perennial contender?

(and note: his work as a capologist was no doubt important too, but spread the credit around a bit. he does not get the lions share)

I'm not asking if you want him.

I'm asking if we bring him in.

With Heckert and Banner, I think he'll be the frontrunner for the job.

according to Banner, he left Philly to be apart of an ownership group. hey, look at that, he is now part of an ownership group.

the Philly media claimed there was a power struggle between Reid and Banner and that is the reason he left. Reid "won" the power struggle according to them, but is now a few losses from being fired.

as to actually answering your question, I would think there is a chance of it, but I do not think we would actually do it.

I don't know that we'd benefit much by promoting Jauron or Chilly to HC, but I do want to keep them where they are and keep Heckert. If I am to credit Holmgren with anything, it's bringing in Heckert. He hasn't done everything perfectly, but he has gotten a lot right.

At this point, I am not a Shurmur fan by any stretch, and wonder if we won Sunday because of him or in spite of him. I think his biggest shortcoming is game planning, and that is a major detriment, but if he could lean on Chilly and Jauron more, and learn as the team grows, I might have to reconsider my thinking toward him. Time will tell, the rest of the season brings an opportunity for more wins. A truly good coach should be able to get us to .500 or better before the end of December.

I'm not talking about the W-L column, but more in terms of facilities, talent level, etc. The franchise was a shambles before Banner took over. While Reid does win games, and has put together winning seasons, I don't respect him as a HC. I think he chokes under pressure and makes poor decisions based on ego as opposed to sound reasoning. I understand your confusion, I should have been clearer.

My biggest issue right now is the game planning going in. It's non-existent at the beginning of the game and at the beginning of the 3rd Q. Therefore, it's non-existent period. That is a major problem.

A Top 5 pick is also a BIG decision, draft that shiny RB or WR or the next Joe Thomas? Sign a big name FA or build through the draft? We all know how owners think...not much and very shortsighted

The way how he stressed "heavily" in his sentence is what has me concerned...

Also, Banner left Philly because he did not have much personell say and now he's part of an ownership and has the boss' ear apparently....I don't like this setup...at all

I have no idea how owners think... maybe you do. I personally have never been a billionaire owner of a pro team nor have I had the chance to hang out with them in their circle....

And some of them have teams that perennially suck and others have teams that seem to usually be pretty good... so I'm sure they don't all think alike.... I seriously doubt that Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones think alike at all.

The new FO is going to get all there draft picks to put their stamp on the team though. They are going to come in here and let all free agents walk, sign there own guys from their old teams that didn't want them anymore and then trade some of the young talent on this team for bundles of picks. If these guys do what every other new FO in Cleveland has done we will have a minimum of 20 new players next year. The team will then regress but fans will be saying its only year 1 of a rebuilt and then year 2 we have minimal improvement and fans will be calling for heads to roll...everyone gets fired and we blow it up again.

sign me up...that sounds delicious.

Or...since most of the guys that will be brought in are coming from a place our whole FO is from...perhaps they'll be on board and stay the course.

That seems like the likely situation. I mean...we have a TON of young talent and anyone can see that. Now...if we were filled with Willie McGinest's and Eric Barton's sure you jettison them for guys you know better...but...cmon.

Is anyone really gonna dump Ward, Haden, Skrine, Rubin, Winn, Sheard etc...

We have so much youth that it would be stupid to rebuild...we've finally for the first time in Cleveland new rebuild history...actually built. We've just kept throwing wood up on a crumbled non-existant foundation. Now we have that...you can build. Not rebuild...but build. Which can go anyway...but almost assuredly always up.

Lets not overreact here...everyone. Lets just let it play out. Banner knows Heckert, Shurmur, Rhodes, and everyone we have in here. So Holmgren leaves...is everyone going to want to jump ship because a guy from their previous organization came in?

If Haslam came in and put someone in the FO like Cowher or Mangini or someone from a completely different football universe in charge sure...but Banner comes from the same place Heckert, Shurmur and all of our guys have come from...and had SUCCESS together...

It's starting to hurt my head all the craziness going on here lately.

Thinking Weeden stinks
That Cribbs should be cut
We're going to re-build the whole organization
We're getting a dome
We're going to pick #1
Take Geno Smith

I dont even know what else...but man, we all should settle down...we're 1-0 in our last 1 games and we're off to play the Colts who are like us...decidedly mediocre...but theyre in a scheme change without their head coach. Odds are in our favor for once...Lets not burn down the castle quite yet.

I hope your joy is well founded.

If Banner is limited to the business side then we may be OK.

If he's seriously involved in the football side I think guys like you will be singing a different tune in a couple of years.

I'll also tell you what I told another poster in a PM. If Banner and Haslam waltz in and do a total tear down of staff and players I'm gone. I won't go through another total rebuild. Too old and too tired to put up with that crap one more time.

Some tweaks here. Some revamping there. That will be fine. A total blow-up....nope, not gonna wait around for that.

it goes on and on and on and on....the only thing the team has in common with the organization of the past is the records they were allowed to retain and the orange helmets.

Our team song should be..."Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes Turn and face the strange Ch-ch-changes Don't want to be a richer man Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes Turn and face the strange Ch-ch-changes...."
