I don't get your dislike of JMJ. I think that he's done a a solid job on the outside, and his getting hurt was at least as much to blame for the 2nd half rout by the Redskins as TJ Ward's injury was.

Plus, doesn't JMJ normally play SSLB, while Robertson generally splits time with Maiava at WSLB?

I do think that his injury, along with Ward's, had a great deal to do with the defensive breakdowns we saw yesterday.

He's not perfect ..... and he's still a rookie with less than a whole year's experience (playing only 10 games out of 15) ..... but I think that there's something to build on there.

J/C

We need playmakers oß defense badly. I won't pretend to know who fits that bill/where we would draft be it Teo or J.Jones or whomever. We need someone at linebacker and free safety and a pass rusher.

The only thing I can think of on offense of a draft need is at guard.

Don't know if it will play out or not but maybe a trade down to grab a second round pick may be the best way to go if we can.

I just don't see the sense of drafting another MLB if we stay in the 4-3.

I don't see him as an OLB under any circumstances. He's not a pass rusher from the outside. He has pulled down a few INT though, but hasn't forced any fumbles. I wonder if he has the speed to play on the outside in the NFL.

I just wish I knew better how he will translate to the next level. I would be very nervous if were to draft him.

Bjoern Werner would be a nice addition.

So....Mock 1.0 for me. I, like most of you, realize many things can change after the bowl season, senior bowl practices, combine, and free agency before we are blessed with another year of a top 7 draft choice.

1st round pick - DeMarcus Milliner, CB from Alabama
I think having another shut down corner opposite of Haden, going up against #2's from other teams, is a must for this pass happy league and the lack of quality CB's we have on this team. Yes, it would be hard to pass up Moore, Werner, and even Jones if they were on the board with Milliner's name still not called, but he may provide our defense a powerful 1-2 secondary that will only help our pass rush (even if it is .5 of a second, that's HUGE).

3rd round pick - Margus Hunt, DE from SMU or Tank Carradine, DE from FSU
I was super impressed with Hunt in the bowl game this past week...then doing a little bit of research and seeing that he is 6'8, 280 with 4.6 speed and an 83" reach....those measurables are off the chart! Then I see he has blocked 17 kicks in his college career...Perfect special teams rusher as well as using his long frame to get into passing lanes on 3rd down. He's only played a few years of football (world junior record holder in the discus) so the sky is the limit with this guy.

Fall back option would be Tank Carradine from FSU depending on how healthy his knee is....1st round (possibly top 10 talent) in the 3rd round...is this the splash that we make in the draft?

4th round pick - Alvin Bailey, OG from Arkansas
08/15/2012 - Top-five Arkansas prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft: 3. OG Alvin Bailey...One of the biggest (literally and figuratively) reasons for Arkansas' success on offense has been the stellar play of junior guard Alvin Bailey. Since redshirting in 2009, Bailey has started all 26 games of his career, earning SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week last season against New Mexico and earning second team honors from the conference coaches for the season, overall. While Bailey typically lines up at right guard, Arkansas frequently switches their linemen for strongside and weakside responsibilities so Bailey has experience on the left side, as well. A naturally massive man, Bailey shows impressive quickness off the snap and can knock defenders off the ball in the running game. He's athletic enough to handle blocking on the move - a requirement in an Arkansas scheme that often requires the guards to pull and block at the second level. While quick enough to get out in space, Bailey struggles to re-direct if the defenders sees him coming and often is forced to lunge at his opponent, resulting in some impressive knock-down blocks but also an occasional miss. The talent and poise of skill position players around him has helped Bailey in pass protection as he has a tendency to stop moving his feet and attempt to control his opponent with just his size and strength. For a big man, however, Bailey shows the ability to block low enough to anchor. He still needs to refine his game but could earn top 100 consideration in either the 2013 or 2014 draft should he continue to develop. - Rob Rang, The Sports Xchange

5th round pick - Aaron Mellette - WR from Elon
Small school WR that has huge upside potential. Has the size/speed/hands to prosper on our young WR group. Gordon/Little/Mellette would be 3 HUGE WR's that will cause mismatch problems versus smaller CB's

6th round pick - FB/TE
6th round pick - OLB (I believe we have two 6th round picks)

7th round pick - Punter

I know this does not address the FS position, but I believe we will sign on Brown to play that to keep some experience as a part of our secondary. I could also see us going after Jarius Byrd in FA also. I would also like to see us add Andy Levitre also in FA. If that is the case, we could still go after Bailey in the 4th round to provide us with depth/competition at the guard position (Lauvao, Pinkston, Greco, Levitre and Bailey) or then that could open us up to a FS/OLB in the 4th (or if we need too, take Mellette in the 4th and a FS/OLB in the 5th)

We need to be careful with this guy, I've watched him over the years take plays off and shown lack of effort, Maybe thats just me have seen him dominate but also seen him get handled and give -up. Me I'd do alot of homework before I'd touch this guy,

I like the Miliner pick as well in the first. I think if he's still there we definitely need to get him.

I think going DE in first is a mistake and not that great of need. When Taylor came back and Rubin was back healthy our Dline really performed well.

1st- cb Miliner
2nd- WRGordon
3rd- DE- Simon/Carradine or S-TJ Mcdonald
4th - TE Stoneburner
5th- OG/OLB/BPA
6th-OLB/OG
7th- BPA

I'm on the Millner train.

Hopefully we can sneak into the top 5. And find a trade partner to move back so we can possibly grab a 2nd. And still get Millner.

I'd love to steal Byrd away from Buffalo. I think adding a solid S and CB would do this team wonders.

I'd also take a look at Frostees former teammate Michael Johnson, or Cliff Avril if we can't grab a DE.

Byrd wants to go to a playoff team. Playing for a couple Great Lakes teams isn't gonna do that.

Take a break troll.

If Buffalo can wrangle the best DE in the NFL. I think we have a shot at an above average Safety.

Money talks.

I'd argue with you that Mario Williams isn't the best DE in football - wasn't last year either... but was a god pick up for them....

Well according to the numbers I have we are now locked in at #6.

# 1 and 2:

If KC loses they get #1, if they win they get #2.

Jax lost, they get #2 (if KC loses), #1 if KC wins.

# 3 has two contenders; Oak and Philly.
If oak loses (against SD) they get # 3, if they win they get #4

Philly lost, their fate depends on Oak; oak wins philly gets #3, oak loses philly is #4.

# 5 is locked up tight with the other 4-12 team, Detroit.

#6 is CLEVELAND, even if Arizona loses (currently 5-10), they have a higher opponent winning % than us, so they get the later pick, # 7 for Arz.

So.... who we going after? I know too early to know for sure, we don't know who the GM is (should remain Heckert, but won't) nor who the head coach is, [purple] and more importantly who Banner wants to select instead. [purple]

Not knowing who we resign, who we sign from other teams, etc, but I want either a stud RDE, or a CB, I fear though that the new regime will try and sell us a new QB, when I don't particularly like any at the top of this draft.

Thoughts?

Picking #6 in a pretty weak draft up top. Who's Excited????!!!!!

Logical players, as of today, at that pick:

OG Chance Womack
OLB Jarvis Jones (if his medicals clear)
DE Barkevious Mingo
DE Bjoern Werner
DE Demontre Moore
CB Dee Milliner (possibly drop back a few slots?)

I think Womack is the best player of that group, if you can talk yourself in to a G in the top 10.

A lot will depend on the new HC and what defensive scheme we run. A pass rusher would be nice but do we take a 43 DE or a 34 Olb? The players are not interchangeable.

There are a couple good Cb's coming out (Millner, Banks, Rhodes).

And of course we could fall in love with a Qb - Glennon from NCST perhaps?

This is a great year for us to trade down as so many of the top players have similar skill level and play positions of need for us. The question is: Is there anyone looking to trade up?

Speaking of Qb's, anyone have a scouting report on Zac Dysert Qb Miami OH? I have heard good things about him but have not seen him play and I know a few of you guys are MAC guys.

We are picking 6th overall, HotB was saying 7th ROUNDER, I had to re-read it myself. However, we do have a 7th rounder from everything I could find, we are only missing our 2nd rounder, PLUS we have a reported 6th rounder from philly for the David Sims trade.

So we have;
1st
3rd
4th
5th
6th
6th* possible with philly trade
7th

Then maybe a compensatory pick, or more.

I think most years we end up having a coin flip to decide draft order.

If Heckert and Holmgren aren't going to be in the draft room, then I don't even want to think about it.

If Heckert isn't going to be there I don't even want to think about it.

There is noone on earth I'm going to want picking except Heckert, so I'll be pretty bummed out, if they try to suppose that some new face is going to not mess it up.

Last time we had the #6 pick we drafted Kellen Winslow (although we traded up).

Hopefully this time we draft someone who stays off a motorcycle and doesn't have swollen balls.

At #6, if Werner is there, I like that selection. If not, Damontre Moore could be taken. If neither is there, I prefer trading back and acquiring more picks.

If we stay with the 4-3 defense Teo is redundant. I understand that Jackson has the ability to play outside, but why mess with the captain of the defense?

Is he fast enough to play outside? That seems to be a major question about him from many reports I have read. I'm really scared to take a LB in the 1st round if we stay with the 4-3 to start with ..... unless he is a double digit sack guy.

I don't know if he has the speed to play outside in a 4-3.
