That and that there are a ton of so called moderates who are anything but.

Romney was, by far, the more middle of the road candidate than Obama. However, despite that being what they supposedly want, they voted the other way.

Romney "was" a moderate until he got the GOP nomination. Then the metamorphasis began. Just like with McCain...... When ya think you know a guy, he changes into someone else.

And it is too bad this nation is so divided. But if the GOP learns one thing from this....... that you can't use sterotypes and fear to win elections...... maybe in the end it will all be worth it.

You can't stand up against our teachers, firefighters, nurses and and police officers, try to take away their bargaining rights......... Then turn around and claim to be "standing up for the middle class".

The double talk is over and if they realise that, correct that and move forward, there will be hope for a lot more people. Until then, they have made their own grave.....

What policies did Romney say that he was going to put in place that are extreme?

Romney is far from a far right guy. He is way, way too left for me, actually.

Oh well ..... 4 years from now when we're in recession again .... and in debt to the tune of $25 trillion (that's actually on the books) with Social Security and Medicare about to collapse, and young people who used to rely on restaurants and retail jobs for full time employment unable to find them ....... well ..... I'l just say .. "Too bad, you brought it on yourself".

Personally, I think the Republican's threw this election. I didn't see Romney as a viable candidate. I didn't see them put up anyone who was a serious challenger. What's better than being in office when the proverbial crap is hitting the fan? Letting the other guy have it and saying it wasn't me....

Watch for 2016. Watch for Marco Rubio. That guy is a serious contender. And I would LOVE to see him on the national stage. I'm very familiar with him as I'm in Florida. I see him as a very likely successor to President Obama.

You do realize that Bush is the one that got us into this mess? I mean Obama sucks too but he is right when he said he spent 4 years cleaning up the previous regimes mess.

You dont start another war when you are in a war and not raise taxes to pay for it. That is what started the mess and it just went down hill from there.

This country will be so unrecognizable, and such a mess in 4 years, that a smart guy like Rubio will want to run. We'll get another 2 lousy choices, and we'll get another lousy President.

Oh well ..... it's what we deserve. Maybe Bozo will win next time.

Obama did prove one thing ..... that it is possible to win the Presidency by running an entirely negative campaign based on microscopic ideas. He also proved that you can buy off interest groups as long as you defer the real costs till after the election.

Send in the clowns.

Don't bother, they're here.

Bull. We were in a $300-$400 annual billion deficit when Bush was in office, even in years with a recession and 9-11.

The problem is that the economy took a beating from the housing crisis, and both parties had a major hand in that disaster. That's what caused the economic collapse, not any particular fiscal policy or war. People say that the wars cost X or Y ...... but we pay our soldiers whether they are at war or at peace, and we build and replace military equipment (which is an economic stimulant) whether it is being used or not. We did put money into Iraq and Afghanistan, but you cannot look at the entire cost as a new cost. Much was already part of the standard budget.

Rove is a pretty smart guy overall. So what if he wasted money on Romney, Obama backers would have as well if he had lost.

I do wonder about Ohio still though. Supposedly there are some 30,000 or so provisional ballots out, that cannot be counted for 10 days. If the final tally comes down within that range, I don't know how you can call it one way or the other.

Oh well ... they are probably right. Buckeyes are just as stupid as most of the country. We have horrible unemployment, anemic GDP growth, foreclosures out the butt, falling family incomes, higher taxes, plus more on the way when Obamacare fully kicks in, and a general disaster in the country ...... yet the incumbent won re-election.

I don't get it. Obama ran on nothing. He called Romney names, went almost 100% negative, has a lousy record, yet won.

This is officially a country of morons.

You want to defend the moron thats fine but dont try to sell it we paid the soldiers no matter what crap. Cheney and his Haliburton pals are still cashing in. Bush and his big oil buddies are still cashing in. We had a whole lot of Americans brought home in body bags just so they could line their pockets and they did.

BTW do u know why we left Saddam in power? In case you dont know, they would never have allowed Iran to build a nuclear facility.

Hey its what i expect from the far right. Yell Gay Marriage once every 4 years and rally the troups lol.

I have to laugh at anyone whose blood pressure has spiked or dropped off the election results of this race. The over -the-top emotional investment is a spectacle.

Please. Conservatives believe in a smaller role for government in our daily lives ..... lower taxes, lower government spending, more self sufficiency for people and less government cradle to grave support, and so on. We believe in a Constitutional Republic, with more power resting with the states than with the federal government, and only those powers specifically endowed upon the federal government being their right and responsibility.

You act like Democrats didn't also vote for both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars as well. They did. They also got the same intelligence that the Clinton administration had, because Bill Clinton said so prior to the war.

Oh well, we get bigger government, more spending, higher taxes, fewer and fewer jobs, and less upward mobility for all. We get a government that hopes that paying people off with a pittance will buy their votes.

Yea. Pardon me if I don't recognize this country anymore.

We'll see what this country looks like in 4 years.

This election proved that a 100% negative campaign can work, despite having a lousy record.

This is true...IN THEORY. Do you honestly believe the modern GOP and Mitt Romney believe in these things? I mean honestly, it's one thing to support a candidate or a party, but you're supporting a fantasy that hasn't been true in a long, long time.

Unofficial on another issue-front, Maine passed it's ballot proposal in favor of gay marriage. With about over half the votes in, Maryland and Washington state are slightly in favor, as well.

Minnesota had a ballot proposal to deny same-sex marriage (but a defeat of the prop would not legalize same-sex marriage). It was trailing by a percentage and a half I thought I saw.

Have I ever once said that I support Romney unconditionally? He is a liberal in Republican clothing. He wasn't even my 5th choice to win the nomination. He had way too much in common with Obama, however, being forced into running more conservatively. I had hope that he might govern that way. So did I support Romney with all my heart?

Nope. I looked at him as the lesser of 2 evils. I have constantly said that I disagree with him on many issues, and hope that he would govern as he campaigned.

I'm not a Republican either. I don't believe that the bulk of the Party is conservative. However, they talk some of the things I believe in, so if I have to make a decision, then that's the way I reluctantly go.

I used to be. However the Republican Party moved further and further away from me. We had Republicans introduce massive programs like the Medicare Prescription program that was supposed to cost a couple billion ..... and will wind up costing almost a trillion. Ditto for the massive expansion of the refundable tax credits that, along with massive welfare programs, encourage people to stay in the hand of government, instead of working to make their own lives better.

I just think that this President has been an absolutely ineffective President since he got a divided Congress, and the things he did get done were done so badly that they will wind up costing us more than anyone can imagine right now. . This was as much his fault as anyone else's. He refused to compromise, and even refused to even talk with Republican leaders. He passed Obamacare, and that's about it. Once he got a divided Congress he stopped even trying to work with the Republicans, and tried dictating to them instead. He also ran one of the most purely negative campaigns I can ever recall. It was downright vile at times. He had nothing to run on, so that's exactly what he ran on. "Trust me, I'll be better in the 2nd term, and I'll do some of the stuff I didn't do in my first term." Sorry if I don't believe that.

Oh well ..... we get what we deserve. It'll be interesting to see what the US looks like in 4 years from now.

I see little hope for a true Conservative to ever become the Republican nominee. A guy like Paul Ryan, who proposed cuts only in the rate of increase in the budget, was painted as someone who was going to push granny off the cliff with budget cuts. What hope do we have for actually cutting the budget to a point where we aren't passing on trillions of dollars of debt when we can't even cut the rate of increase?

Oh well. I can only hope that Obama can somehow be a better President in his 2nd term, but I doubt it. He ran the most vacuous campaign I have ever seen, putting forth no real agenda, and winning on "issues" like birth control, binders, and bayonets. He ran a really vile campaign of character assassination and flat out lies. That doesn't leave me much hope for the next 4 years.

Geez, did you see any of Romney's ads? The nasty phone calls? The endless flyers in the mailbox every day?

I don't know that the political election game has much to do with our next 4 years.

Well, Romney was called a murderer, was lied about as far as his positions on Detroit and on a number of other issues. However, it's over now, so I'm over it. My preferred candidate in this election lost , but he was a guy I wasn't a big fan of anyway ..... and I don't have to worry about taxes right now ..... so who cares? I'm over it.

I do wonder how those kids who are so excited about Obama being re-elected would react if someone went up to them and said "Congratulations, your share of the National Debt is $51,000. When President Obama took office, it was about $33,000 when he took office, and it's $51,000 today. Who knows what it will be in 4 more years. Work hard, because paying it back is going to fall to you. Us old farts will be gone when the bills from Obamacare and such really start rolling in."

I am so glad that I don't have kids. I would be ashamed to leave this mess to them.

Alright so...now that that's finally over.

I'm gonna get high and go in to work late tomorrow. Hopefully they'll fire me because I mean, who likes to WORK anyway? Show of hands, who's JAZZED to pay for me to go knock some chick up, get an abortion, pay for my health care, and then pay for my phone and house as well? C'mon!

I mean, it's just compassionate. It's pretty obvious that if you aren't willing to do that for me then you hate human beings like Romney hates women and minorities.

Oh and in my free time I'm going to start a "green power" company. It won't work (no really I'm an Electrical Engineer, it won't work) but at least I'm trying. Besides, when it goes bankrupt Obama can just bail me out. Removing the possibility of failure from the equation....winning!

If you can't beat em, join em. GIVE ME MY FREE STUFF all you dirty rich profit worshipers!

Guys like you really need to learn to stop being such sore losers. The fact that as late as about 11 pm last night you were still saying there was a chance for Romney if he swept like 8 swing states shows you weren't dealing in reality. I mean, honestly, you're starting to make Donald Trump look sane.

Honestly, assuming that Obama takes Florida this was more like a landslide than a squeaker.

And to your brethren that, yesterday, were hinting they'd rather leave the country than live under another Obama administration I'll repeat what I said yesterday, "Don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out".

Four more years for battle-hardened Obama

By Brian Montopoli /CBS News/ November 7, 2012, 12:08 AM
Updated 1:57 a.m. Eastern Time

Four years after a historic victory driven by lofty promises of hope and change, a battle-hardened President Obama will win re-election with a very different message: We've made progress, but there's still a long way to go.

"I return to the White House more determined and more inspired than ever about the work there is to do and the future that lies ahead," Mr. Obama told cheering supporters at a victory rally in Chicago.

The president said he had called to congratulate Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan on a hard-fought campaign.

"We may have battled fiercely, but it's only because we love this country deeply," he said, adding that he hoped to meet with Romney. The president went on to thank his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, his children Sasha and Malia, Vice President Joe Biden, his campaign team and everyone who participated in the election, no matter who they voted for.

In the end, an election many expected to come down to the wire ended early. While Mr. Obama lost states he won four years ago, including Indiana and North Carolina, his Midwestern firewall of Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa held. The president was buoyed in Ohio by his action to use federal dollars to bail out the auto industry, while union households helped power him in Wisconsin. Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes, where Republican nominee Mitt Romney made a late run in hopes of expanding the electoral map, were projected to go to the president early in the evening.

One by one, battleground states fell to Mr. Obama throughout the night: New Hampshire, Iowa, Nevada, Colorado. It was enough to put him over the top even without the hard-fought battlegrounds of Virginia and Florida, where voters were lined up long after polls closed to decide close contests. CBS News projected Virginia for Mr. Obama early Wednesday morning.

After CBS News and other media outlets called the race after Mr. Obama was projected the winner in Ohio, a group of about 1,000 young people gathered in Lafayette Park, near the White House, to celebrate. In the president's home base of Chicago, Obama supporters waved flags, danced and hugged, some breaking down into tears; in Romney's home city of Boston, the GOP nominee's supporters stood shell-shocked and silent following the projections.

In a brief concession speech delivered to the crowd in Boston, Mitt Romney said he would pray for the president and said the country was at a "critical" point.

"Paul [Ryan] and I have left everything on the field," Romney said. "We have given our all to this campaign."

Romney concedes: Ryan and I "left everything on the field"

The good news for Republicans on Tuesday: As expected, they are projected to hold onto the House of Representatives. But the Senate, which one year ago looked very likely to fall into Republican hands, was projected to stay with the Democrats - thanks in part to missteps by Republicans in Missouri and Indiana, whose controversial comments concerning rape helped vulnerable Democrats triumph.

It adds up to an election set to be remembered for maintaining the status quo. After an oft-nasty battle in which the campaigns and outside groups are projected to have spent a record-breaking $6 billion, Washington is poised to look the same way it has for the past two years: With Democrats in control of the Senate, Republicans in control of the House, and Mr. Obama in the Oval Office.

That isn't to say there weren't milestones: Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana for recreational use, with the aim of taxing and regulating it -- the first states to do so. Maine and Maryland were the first states ever to see voters affirm that same-sex couples should have the right to marry. For the first time, an openly gay person -- Wisconsin's Tammy Baldwin -- was elected to the Senate.

web page

Ohio, the American auto industry and unions households helped to re-elect Obama.

Attempting to disenfranchise voters in many states didn't work well for the gop either. Every state that tried to enact laws to keep Americans from voting was governed by the GOP...kind of exposes the gop agenda.

To me, working to keep Americans from voting is the most unAmerican act I have seen in my lifetime. That is no way to try to win an election. Many American men and women have fought and died to help insure the right to vote in America and those working to stop people from voting dishonor their sacrifices.

It was great to see the gop agree that America's working class deserve an increase in pay. It was also great to see the gop agree that outsourcing American jobs to slave labor countries is bad for America and needs to stop...

...did Romney and the gop mean it?...their comments are now on record...are they really against outsourcing American jobs and do they really believe American workers need higher wages?...we will find out.

...the American people have spoken...

I see the wrist slitting has begun! I'm so happy that America saw thru the BS and gave Obama 4 more years...

Time to read all the rants, hate and bashing from the Tea Party types... lol.

Obama was the BEST poor choice.

Start with the 1st campaign : Cut the deficit in half. Either a lie, or if worse than he thought, shows he was clueless about it. Unemployment rate ? Same thing. Thats 2 strikes at being either a liar or moron. 4 MORE yrs ? what a joke.

I guess the stupid people of this country want to see what happens when the system collapses. The United States can only spend other peoples' money for so long before it runs out. Hopefully we'll stay in gridlock for the next 4 years.

The republicans in the house will have to stop card check, gun laws, free speech challenges, and other deterioration of our rights. I also expect a serious push for at least one state to ceseed.

Just clicking

Well, It's over, Obama won, at this point this morning, they haven't called Florida yet, but it has no bearing on the outcome at this point. (you wouldn't have been able to convince that Florida would play virtually no role in this election)

I am in shock over the NBC exit poll showed that 89% of those that voted for Obama said they did so because they feel the economy is getting better,, wow.

I'm also having a hard time believe a Democrat won a senate seat in Virginia

I guess the only thing I'm happy about is "joe the plumber" got his butt kicked. Never liked that guy...

The other take away from this is, with the changing population mix, it's going to be impossible for super a conservative republican to win the presidential race in the near term future.

Here's a question for you all, What happens in Colorado when the first FBI sting causes the arrest of a person smoking dope.

Does Federal law trump state law?
