There should be a government issued Photo ID for all americans. No ID, no vote. No ID, no work.

Another photo id? driver's license/state id's aren't enough?

besides, if you can't work without an id, just think of how many bums would lose it

A photo id of some sort, whether it be state issued or federal issued is fine by me.

The businesses that remained alive were those in good shape, with case reserves, and a solid business model. many went bankrupt, some went bankrupt and reorganized, and some, like GM and Chrysler, went bankrupt and then reorganized with tens of billions of government money.

Someone I know got upset because they questioned his ability to vote when he showed his Arizona driver's license... in Ohio. Of course, it was the evil Republican that was questioning it. When I pointed out how big of an idiot he was being for getting mad about being questioned (he still got to vote) he was even more retarded...

Yes things are better now than they were when Obama took office

Uh, wait what?? The unemployment rate when Obama took office was 7.8% (It was actually 6.8 the day he got elected, and jumped a full point by January) and it's 7.9-8% now. The Federal Budget has gove from 1.4 trillion (Bush's last submitted budget) to 3.8 trillion. With that 2.4 trillion difference, he could of just straight out handed 48 million Americans 50,000 a year jobs ... yet unemployment hasn't changed a bit and the national debt is through the sky.

Meanwhile you have to wonder how accurate that 7.9% unemployment number is ... because lots of small businesses I know are already looking at moving full-time employees to part-time, because they can't afford them to be FT thanks to Obamacare.

Better off? At best, we're exactly where we were before.

AND dont forget that we were losing 750k jobs a month when he first started. So stopping that landslide and turning its momentum around is a plus in my book... Just like in football... ppl want to pick 1 statistic to fuel their argument. I just went back and finished my degree and there are ahelluva a lot more jobs out there now then there were 4 years ago. Is everything fixed, no. Will it ever be, probably not. But to sit there and say things are worse ... is blinders. Auto industry is back, Wall street has recovered, housing is on upswing, there is a job growth now instead of decline, we are down to 1 war, and Bin Laden is dead.

What I expect from obama this term... Follow thru on his infrastructure and alternative fuel programs, fix the budget(he did what he needed to bandaid the situation) now lets lower the deficit, DO NOT get into a war w/ Iran, education reform, reform the whole business is a person and electoral financing. I thought it was "We the people" not "We the INC"

And no one can ever answer whether we'd be better off with that happening. I think things would still be horrible if we let that happen. You don't. Nothing will change that, because it's an opinion. Both views are backed by experts saying that their side is fact.

Again, I don't love any of the stuff that's happened, but I believe 100% that McCain would have done nearly the same stuff. Obama has a lot of work to do to fix some of his own mess.

He did not get my vote.

Seriously, when push comes to shove all these posts come down to one basic theme and that is your guy lost and you're all over reacting to that loss.

I just hope we don't have to listen to you guys whine about this for the entire four years.

But I suspect we will.

This is similar to my major takeaway from this election. I hope the Republicans get the message and realize it's time to throw Rove out on his butt... he basically wrote his own eulogy last night on Fox from what I hear. People are sick of fear-mongering and marqueeing social issues, being dishonest in fiscal policy, and general dishonesty. I'm not saying that this is a republican-only quality (and certainly don't mean to absolve the democrats), but Rove wrote the book on it.

A BBC reporter broadcasting on NPR at lunchtime today asked an American democrat [under the lens of demographic-relating voting patterns] "Are you hoping this will cause the Republicans to change their positions to be more inclusive? Or would you like to just see them shrink and become irrelevant?" which I thought was kind of missing the point. I grew up in a democratic household and liberal principles make sense to me, but I am not interested in seeing a reduction in the number of options. I'd much prefer to have a strong set of options based on principle and integrity than shaming and fear. Hopefully the repubs realize its time for a leadership change and allow some of the guys not yet jaded to the process take the lead.

What I think this election showed is that the GOP is way out of touch on social issues and on the wrong side of history on essentially all of them.

Gay rights, women's pay and rights, contraception, etc. Pretty much every major social issue, the people that predominantly believe in the GOP way of thinking are the seniors and the ultra-conservatives. Running on a platform of denying gay rights and contraception does not resonate with the vast number of voters these days and it will continue to ring more and more hollow over the next few elections.

You want to run as the party of smaller government? Then get the government out of all these issues and stop trying to block progress because the only people that this message resonates with are - literally - dying off. The demographics Democrats used to win by 10% (the youth vote, the latino vote)\, they are now winning by 30% and those demographics are growing every election. The social issues the Rs represent no longer represent mainstream America.

Congratulations to the President on a good win. I hope republicans make an effort to work with him and I hope he reciprocates that effort.

I am still a firm believer that conservative policies are the best policies but the republican party is in trouble because it is being run by morons, the people that are put on TV to represent conservatism are morons.... There is an under current of a youth movement developing in the republican party and I sincerely hope that some of them come along with some new ideas and a fresh approach at presenting and conveying that message to the public because if they don't, the whole party is destined to become irrelevant for a long time on a national scale.....

The party needs to distance itself from the likes of Hannity and Palin and Coulter... even though I think most of the democrats ideas regarding fiscal policy are wrong, at least they come across as having ideas... the republicans appear to have no vision and no plan.

This post reflects precisely how feel. Thanks DC.

And you can add Beck, Limbaugh, Bachman, Norquist McConnell, and the rest of the abortion/rape gift from God Tea Party crowds. They have went so far off the deep end . . . but they will only hang their hats on the fact that Romney was a moderate and not the conservative they needed and that is why he lost . . . yada yada yada . . . .

This is the part of the Republican ticket I do not like; I agree with what you posted 100%. The social issues are not enough to push me to the liberal side, but I am of the belief that this should not be a political issue at all. As much as I hate to say it, I agreed with Biden's answer on abortion in the debate. He doesn't agree at all with it at all, but it should not be the governments place to dictate - my thoughts exactly. On gay marriage, I could care less who wants to marry who. I do not understand why a man would want to marry a man or a woman marry a woman but it is also not my place to tell them what they should do. It doesn't affect me in any way. Contraception? I cannot believe how big of a deal this one is.

That is your OPINION. Mine is that we just floored the accelerator right off the cliff of financial doom. I hope I am wrong, and I'm not complaining that Romney lost, I'm just fearful of where we are headed with the beliefs and agenda of Obama. That's all. I'm prepared for almost any situation that occurs; like I said, I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about my son and his future.

I'm sorry you think I'm "whining". I like to think of it as an opinion that I have, and you disagree with - and that is fine. Like I said, I don't like Obama's agenda and I think it is going to set a course for the destruction of our country as we know it. I really do hope I am wrong and will take all the ridicule that can be dished out here if I am, because if I am wrong it means the country is back on track and pulling out of this mess that has been building since the 80's. I will applaud and congratulate Obama for leading the recovery - I have no problem with doing so if things get fixed.

I think i'm right along with the last few posts. I use to say that I was an independent. Now I guess that I'm so sick of the extreme republicans that it has moved me away from all republicans. Social issues like the ones mentioned above, are not realistic or in line with todays society. To take such extreme opposite stances on issues such as rape, contraception, abortion, sex ed and even education with the backing of intelligent design makes me feel like we are moving backward not forward. For instance, I've always said i'm personally against abortion, but what gives me the right to tell someone else what they should do with their body. Who am I, nobody. The GOP preaches smaller gov't but in the Bush years we had largest expansion of gov't in decades and they continually wanna push legislation to effect our everyday lives to force me to believe in their values. Just run for office and stop chastising everyone and labeling everyone something negative who thinks different. And then I may vote for that party.

Why would a resident of Ohio have an Arizona driver's license? (Unless he was a college student) You are legally required to change your driver's license if you move to another state. Most states require you to get a new license within 30-90 days of establishing new residency.

Dag gone you DCDAWGFAN,
I was having a good time laughing at all the so-called conservatives on this board, hyper-ventilating, blaming everyone else but the repub party, and you go and mess it up with a good, logical post!! The repubs cannot make policy based on the crazy emotions of bloggers/radio hosts/extreme elements of the party..etc. And you cannot disrespect a large growing part of America and expect them to vote for you!.. Not going to happen!!

The rest of you repubs on this board.... 4 more years!! ......

No one ran against gay rights, that I know of. Womens' equal pay has been federally protected by law for years. The Lily Ledbetter Act was largely redundant. It just allowed women to sue going back decades instead of years. Kinda ridiculous, actually. Contraception? No one ran against contraception. They were against forcing religious organization to pay for birth control in opposition to their beliefs. But who cares about religious freedom anyway? Frankly, I'm against forcing insurance companies to provide birth control for free. Why should birth control drugs be treated any differently than life saving drugs people have to pay for? (blood pressure medication, etc)

The problem is that the electorate is split almost 50/50 between those who believe in a day's work for a day's pay, and for being able to keep as much of the fruits of your labors as possible ..... and who believe in making their own decisions for themselves .... who want government to let them keep as much of their earned income as possible, and to stay out of their way........ and those who believe that government is the solution to most of life's problems.

One thing that is absolutely and completely certain is that we are in a budgetary situation where the current pace of spending is unsustainable. We cannot tax ourself out of the mess we're in. However, we have not only not cut spending, we have just added another huge new entitlement program on top of $1.3 trillion annual deficits and the $16 trillion national debt. We cannot give everyone everything and expect no one to pay for it. We cannot take a budget with a $1.3 trillion deficit and raise tax income by $80 billion per year and expect the budget to balance. (especially if we are supposedly going to give more middle class tax cuts, cut corporate rates, and pay for healthcare)

One thing I will say is this:

Obama won re-election, despite having a horrible first term. The economy is a train wreck. All of those college kids who supported him are looking for jobs and can't find them. if we don't have a big turnaround pretty quick, the Democrats are just as likely to lose those "hope and change faithful" young adults, who won't wait forever for a job and to be able to start their lives. Democrats better have a plan that works. Having to work part time at McDonalds with a degree isn't going to make people happy for very long.

General reply:

I just hope that in 2016 that the Republicans stop with the "Democrat Lite" crap and actually run a conservative candidate with real, legitimate conservative chops. I am so sick of having establishment candidates like McCain and Romney being the choice for the Republican party. If the voters want a Democrat, they'll vote for the Democrat.

I do think that Ron Paul showed that a candidate with more Libertarian beliefs can bring in young people. He simply had too many problems in areas like national defense, and such, to make more mainstream Republican voters feel secure with him.

If the Republican Party doesn't take a hard look at itself and decide to become something other than "not those guys", then they will continue to lose elections like this that require statewide and national support. The House races are primarily local. Senate races are statewide, and the Republicans got lambasted there. Wackos like Akin and the other guy who made a rape comment didn't help at all. Ditto for the Presidency. You have to win states to win the Presidency, and you have to be able to be something other than "not that guy" in order to do so.

You're just hell-bent on being right and defending the party. I'll give you a counter-question: Which GOP candidates called for less government in any of those issues? If you can't see that the modern GOP is running on those ideals, then I can't help you see them. As everyone else has mentioned, it seems pretty obvious and the things that I mentioned dominated headlines this election cycle.

The fact that as many people voted for Obama as they did just makes me sad for the future of this country....Obama has put this country through 4 years of economic misery and these same clueless people put him back in....its insane...

We see today already that the markets are beginning to tank because he got back in, and they will continue to tank...and as they do, so goes the economy.

In January, parts of the Affordable Care Act go in to effect. anyone who employs more then 100 people will be forced to begin giving healthcare or paying the fine...so what will happen? Many of these small businesses will simply slash workers to get below the requirements for the mandate. Large companies will slash the workforce to offset the additional costs burden upon them.

All the people that voted for Obama just gave a large sect of the American people a fantastic Christmas Bonus gift...a pink slip telling them they are laid off

Many of these people who voted for him just voted themselves out of a job. I am not going to feel sorry for these people either, because they done this to themselves...voting for Obama was like smashing yourself in the face with a brick....

You think the economy was bad the 1st 4 years...just you folks wait...I hope you went to the store and stocked up on Vaseline....because your going to need it....

look im not saying Romney was a perfect candidate, in fact I disagreed with about 80% of his platform....but I do think he would have actually tried to get people back to work...there is no doubt he would have went forward with the Canadian Oil Pipeline that not only would have created thousands of jobs, but would have done a lot to help get gas prices down which helps the economy.

Obama has drove this country into the ground...quit blaming George Bush....when George Bush left office gasoline was a 1.80 gallon...today it is 3.54 a gallon.....people have to be asleep at the wheel to vote for such a man. Obama took the worst of bush's polices and made it worse....as I said when bush left office gas was around 1.75 to 1.85 a gallon.. now its 3.45 - 3.54 a gallon....you call that progress?

look at how much grocery, power, electric, etc bills have gone up since this dude got into office? they call that forward?

oh well, I sent my aunt and uncle a container of Vaseline in the mail this morning, because they are going need it...under this administration for 4 more years we are probably going into a Major Depression...the market tank today shows exactly whats in store...lots of people are going to lose tons out of their 401k.....which will lead to even more economic turmoil. I am telling you the economy is going to be decimated these next 4 years....

Wall Street has ZERO confidence in this President, and the markets will reflect that with continued lows and a terrible economy.....Obama job numbers he put out are misleading, he is counting people collecting Unemployment....many of these people Unemployment benefits ran out and they still have no work but are no longer eligible to collect, but they counting that as good on their job reports.

Any real economist worth his salt will tell you the "real" unemployment rate is around 15-17%.....anyone who calls that forward or progress is seriously on something...

Romney's as honorable and decent man as I recall in public life. But by the time the Dem machine and the media was done with him, he'd been called a felon (by the president) and accused of murdering some guy's wife. There is no Republican candidate who can withstand that kind of attack. Idiots believe that stuff and go around and whisper "Halliburton" and "Bain Capital" as if it is some sort of evil hex. It's a stubborn type of stupidity that can't be combatted with logic.
A lot of other factors favor the Dems going forward. Voter fraud gives them a built-in two or three points, and they scream bloody murder if anyone dares call for voter ID legislation. It's racist, or something. States that welcome illegal immigrants get higher census counts and therefore more Congressional seats and electoral votes. Finally, the Dems also have passed the tipping point, where voters with their hands out outnumber voters who accept personal responsibility.
Three and a half years from now, when things still suck or are even worse, we'll still be hearing about W. Or John Boehner.

I think it would be a good thing for the Republicans to go back to its roots....go back to the "Taft Republican Party Ideology" which is:

1. small government
2. anti-war
3. Non-interventionist foreign policy
4. spending cuts and balanced budgets.
5. tax cuts across the board
6. offloading/ letting the states run more programs because they do it more efficiently.
7. The Federal government just getting out of the way.

the above worked for many Republican Presidents even all the way back to Ike Eisenhower in the 50's....

The Republican Party needs to go back to its roots which is a stark contrast to the Democrats...they do this, and they will win the next elections...but this Democrat lite nonsense just isn't going to cut it.

We see today already that the markets are beginning to tank because he got back in

LOL, your spin is pathetic. The markets today started going down at the very same minute that it was announced that Europe's projections for next year were too optimistic.
That same stock market that apparently Obama is tanking has doubled during his tenure. Smart investors know how to work the market, regardless of which party is in office and that has been true for as long as the stock market has existed. The only people shocked Obama was re-elected were the ones on this board. Essentially every major electoral sample had Obama winning if you actually know how to interpret statistics.

Here's a novel concept: providing evidence for your assertions.

However, when bad news about the European economy began to flow in Wednesday morning, the effect on stocks was nearly immediate. The struggling continent's main ballast through its economic problems has been Germany, but that country is now being dragged into the same mire as its neighbors, and announced drastically lowered forecasts for gross domestic product and economic growth across the eurozone for this year and next.
"Financial developments in Germany are the mirror-image of financial developments in the rest of the euro area," European Central Bank President Mario Draghi said in a speech.
On the other side of the coin, the continent's most troubled country, Greece, experienced violent protests as its government debated austerity measures. The measures passed by a majority vote, a relief for observers concerned about Greece's ability to remain in the eurozone.
Domestic issues are not completely blameless in Wall Street's worries, however, with the No. 1 concern being the "fiscal cliff," spending cuts and tax increases scheduled to take effect at the beginning of 2013 if Congress fails to negotiate a new plan. After Tuesday night's election results showed that the two houses of Congress will again be split, with Democrats controlling the Senate and Republicans maintaining the House, hopes for an easy solution to the problem vanished.
"With a polarized federal government we see little reason to increase the probability of avoiding the tax cliff, avoid brinksmanship over the debt ceiling or to expect pro-growth tax and entitlement reform in 2013," Barry Knapp, head of U.S. equity strategy at Barclays's securities unit, wrote in a note Wednesday, in which he slashed his forecast for the S&P 500.
With domestic and foreign issues causing major concerns, the big question is when stocks will find a floor, especially with the debate on the fiscal cliff expected to drag.
"There's no question that Europe is lagging the rest of the developed and emerging world, but stocks will find a base soon, when investors start seeing through some of the smoke over the region and cliff," Mountain View senior money manager Richard Weiss, of American Century Investments, told Reuters.

Quick! Everyone convert your dollars to rubles!

What is that supposed to mean?

The DOW tanked 312.95 points today at closing.

The NASDAQ is down 74.64 points today at closing

The S&P is down 33.86 points today at closing

that is not good at all....at least not for the economy. This making funny comments about this is pretty ignorant considering how many people are out of work. Even with current conditions, much of America has been insulted from the damage, but that won't last much longer. When these job losses starting hitting closer to home for you, im sure you won't be laughing anymore...

I don't want anyone to lose their jobs, but I see the writing on the wall and so does Wall Street....a Depression is coming that's almost certain, and when it does...it won't be funny anymore...

oh really...so I guess 600 billion in projected tax increases for the 1st of the year had nothing to do with it....

I guess you haven't been following the Fiscal Cliff...of course the liberal spin doesn't want you to believe that their 600 billion in projected tax increases had anything to do with the markets beginning to tank.....

I am not going to argue this anymore though. I am tired....I am done getting worked up over this....I didn't vote for that dude, so my hands are clean...all I can do is sit back and watch the economy tank...that's exactly whats going to happen...when you raise taxes by 600 billion....what do you expect? a job boom....not going to happen.....

People would still be out of work if the Red guys was President today.

Show me the proof that the Dow and everything went down BECAUSE Obama was reelected.

Just explain to me why all the stock market guys are talking about the European projections and why the stock market started going down literally the same minute it was announced or provide any source that it was indeed Obama, not the European problem that caused the fall?

My prediction
Quote:

Obama wins 303-235. Also wins popular vote 51 to 48. Democrats get Senate, Republicans the House.

Current results:
Obama winning with 303.
Popular vote 50.8 (roughly)-48.
Democrats got Senate.
Republicans the House.

As they say, the numbers don't lie.

look at the post above....600 billion in projected tax increases by Obama sure would put a big damper on economic outlooks and forecast....

not to mention the coming job losses at the 1st of the year...the ACA is going to cause many small businesses to shed workers, and large companies will slash positions to make up the differences in added costs....its economics 101

in closing...I really hope I am wrong because I don't want to see anymore people out of work. The single most important thing to me is a strong economy....I want all people to have the opportunity to live the American Dream...but look at how many college students get out of school with massive debt and no jobs...we need to do something about that....I just don't think this administrations ideas are going to foster job growth...these ideas haven't worked his 1st 4 years, and they just aren't going to work now.

Not to mention his Secretary of State, Defense, and treasury are leaving...his top 3 cabinet positions are bailing .Hillary Clinton and Panetta are gone....

I can't remember the last time a President got re-elected and his top 3 Cabinet positions are all leaving at the same time? it doesn't look good. Hillary Clinton will be a big loss to an already shaky foreign policy.

its a combination of both Joker...both things contributed...I never said the Fiscal Cliff was the sole cause...I said it was 1 of many factors.

I think we can agree that 600 billion in projected tax increases does not help foster a good economic forecast....I just wonder if the President and Congress can just get something done to avoid this...that's all.

Knight .... I was reading your sig and thought how ironic. You have that as your sig and yet the man you supported refused to release tax records. He ended up picking i think 2 years to release when it was all said and done. Amongst him telling the people "trust me" but would not reveal his tax plan besides extending bush tax cuts and lowering the tax for the incredibly rich, raise military budget over what the pentagon requested with no reasoning.

He lost Mass. and Wis. The people of those home states didnt even trust him or his VP enough to vote for them.

Just food for thought

Yeah baby, can't wait to go on Obamacare in 2014.

It's cheaper for work to pay the fine so I'll be forced to go on it then, can't wait. Obama's awesome.

I'm sorry but this sounds like a punch line to a joke about right-wingers contradicting themselves. Lets clarify. Most right wingers want mandatory federal id for voting.... for everyone except themselves. If they were required themselves to get that ID why can't you just hear the up roar about the govt over stepping itself, compromising our privacy, keeping tabs, BIG BROTHER?!?! It's a conspiracy! Micro chipping is next! The FEMA CAMPS, THE FEMA CAMPS!!!!!!
