Noel has no offensive game outside of 2 feet of the rim or catching lobs. He was the number one recruit in the country because of his defensive ability, and in his first two college games the player he was guarding went to work on him and scored at an efficient rate.

he needs to learn when to go for the steal/block and when to stay home. he is always going for it and Plumlee took advantage (despite 5TOs)

kentucky's most impressive frontcourt guy last night though was Poythress to me. that guy had such ridiculously good leaping ability. the ORb he had near the end of the game was sick (perfect boxing out was done on him and he just leapt straight up, reached his hand over and snagged the ball - then took the midrange jumper as the defense was picking their jaws off the court)

Well that and he's an athletic freak...

Maybe that Harrow guy will make a big difference but from the 2 games I've seen of Kentucky against pretty good opponents, I would collapse the middle and make them beat me from the outside... other than Wiltjer, I don't see anybody else that can.

We are so much better than Duke, it's not even funny.

They were better tonight, okay.

I PRAY we get them in March. We win by 10+

Sorry but I didn't see it that way at all. Kentucky upped their aggressiveness from the game against Maryland and still got out hustled. Cal has a long way to go to make this a top 5 team...

We were beat by experience. That's all.

The talent level between Kentucky and Duke isn't even close.

If Calipari brings them together, and you know he will, this team would destroy Duke in March.

The pure physical athleticism isn't close.. but being a freakish athlete doesn't make you a great basketball player...

I guess we can just disagree... last year from what I saw of Kentucky early, I saw a group of great basketball players who needed to learn to play together and against college level competition... what I see this year is a group of great athletes who need to learn to play together but who each have holes in their game that need individual improvement.... We shall see.

Man these Bulldogs can ball.

3 huge stories tonight...

Indiana/GTown
Grinnell (D3) guard scores 138 on 52/108 shooting (27/71 from 3) in a 179-104 win...NCAA Record
Butler murders UNC...UNC almost makes a comeback from down 29. had it at 6 with a min and a half left.

It would be nice to have a Zeller backing up a Zeller for the Cavaliers next year.

Wow, and a kid on the other team had 70.

It was obviously a defensive battle. lol

Is it a bad thing that I never knew that Grinnel or Faith Baptist College even existed before tonight? lol

I guess this does bring some attention to their schools and programs though.

ESPN

I honestly would rather have the 34-44 stat line...

Also...

Quote:

For the past two decades, Grinnell coach David Arseneault has been running his system ("The System"), based on his formula ("The Formula"), which explicitly requires his team to shoot at least 94 field goals per game, 47 of which should be 3-pointers. Arseneault recruits almost exclusively sharpshooting guards, so that his players can be interchangeable when he runs them in quickfire all-five line changes every other minute. It's a totally insane, totally thrilling way to play basketball, and it's also an elephant and a tiger and a creepy clown shy of a straight-up circus freakshow.

OSU can beat Duke if they play great defense and run. Duke is the best team in college basketball unfortunately. Easily our toughest test.

I'm going to go homer here for a second but if Alex Len isn't playing for Maryland next year, I hope he's a Cav.... the guy is going to be just like Z only better offensively and probably a better shot blocker.... great hands, good footwork, soft touch on the midrange jumper, good free throw shooter, works hard... 7'1", 240 lbs...

I thought this Big10 v. ACC thing was supposed to be a challenge

Maryland won't start Big 10 play until 2014.. they will be in the ACC next year but if the ACC has the extra team, they will sit Maryland out, I guarantee it.

It's 4-2 Big 10 with 6 to play... I don't think any of the teams that have won have been a big surprise but the fact that none of the games have been particularly close is disappointing.

the only surprise to me so far was Minny over FSU only because it was in Tallahasee and the Seminoles play such good defense.

i agree on the games. wish they would have been closer and more watchable.

FSU basketball has been a lot like FSU football for a number of years now... high expectations, less performance. and even in good years, they always find a way to lose games they shouldn't (i.e. NC State in football)

We're a great defensive team, especially Jr and Craft, but man these guys throw the ugliest bricks I've ever seen. Let Thomas shoot every possession.

Not enough scoring. Dominated for about 30 minutes. Had so many easy looks. I thought Ross should've played more. Jr, Craft, Scott, and Thompson didn't give anything offensively. Need more than Thomas if you're going to do anything in the tourney.

This team has so much crap to work on right now it's not even funny. Lenzelle and Aaron were selfish on offense. Shannon Scott was just pathetic. Nobody else stepped up. No energy or defense in the 2nd half.

Matta needs to chew guys out. This is NOT a top 5 team. If they play the rest of the season like they did in the 2nd half we will be a 2nd round exit.

The defense is legit. Not going to find better defenders than Craft, Smith, and Thompson. They just need to develop Ross, and make a better percentage of their shots. I like the fact we're a lot more athletic than in recent years.

it's November, we played in one of the toughest venues in the sport, and traded punches with the #2 team in the country but came up just a little short at the end.

Duke is the best team in the country right now.

My March, who knows, but right now, there's not even a question.

I'd love to see who has ever had a resume like they have had in NOVEMBER, already beating VCU, Kentucky, Ohio State, and Louisville.

That's impressive.

That's 3 of last years Final Four teams. (if you count Kentucky, who isn't really the same team. )

I liked Jay Williams last night when asked where Miami ranks right now in the ACC, considering the preseason concensus was NC State 1, Duke 2, UNC 3... and his answer was that the top 4 is Duke, Maryland, NC State, Miami....

yeah, i was waiting for DC to bringup that post again. i guess he feels bad since he's switching sides (hey, maybe the Terps win counts for the Big10).

wish Izzo took these things seriously though. 6-7 now in the challenge for him.

I have one more year on the ACC side, however I'm certain that if the ACC has to sit a team out to make it even, not sure what the numbers are next year, they will sit Maryland. Traditionally they sat the team with the worst record the year before...

Good challenge, first day the winners didn't surprise me but some of the scores did, the second day a couple of the winners surprised me. After day 1 I'm not sure what odds it would have taken to get me to bet that the ACC would tie it up... they would have been big though.
