and what happened in 2008 and 2009? a bunch of layoffs due to a recession.

now companies are slowly hiring back employees (afraid that the recent surge isn't real). it's just how those things tend to work. cut costs like crazy to stave off a possible long-term depressions, when things start going well you have to make sure it's real before you dive too far back in.

Single Wal*Mart Employee Walks Out

In an inspiring example of Union Fail, the planned union walkout on Walmart during Black Friday led off with a one-employee walkout at a Walmart in St. Cloud, Florida on Wednesday. The walkout was led by – and entirely constituted by – Vanessa Ferreira, 59. She told her manager that she was going on strike. The other workers watched her leave, shrugged, and went back about their business. The police then warned Ferreira for trespass.

Most American taxpayers also don't care if they exploit Chinese workers or American workers or whatever as long as they can get their toothpaste and swiss cake rolls and diapers 20% cheaper.... How do you think Walmart got so big and powerful? It wasn't because it was a great customer service based shopping experience, it was because consumers from both parties don't care as long as their stuff is cheaper... so take your republican BS and shove it.

True! They'll make excuses to stand up for business even when those businesses pay their employees so poorly, that many of their emloyees are drawing food stamps. Even if their employees children are on state medicade programs and even if what little they do save at Walmart is being paid out back to the employees in state programs funded by taxpayers. Yes, they'll promote saving $2.00 an a shirt while paying tax dollars to suplliment their employees!

Wouldn't that mean that the tax payers are actually the ones helping to create profits for Walmart through their own tax dollars?

You see, most consumers want to have their cake and eat it too. They promote cheap labor below the poverty level and support cutting programs to the poor.

They promote the furthering of class warfare while accusing the other side of it.

I was in a Wal-mart tonight. Something didn't make it on our truck for the hotel so I went to the one store which was open to get the item. So I started asking some of the employees who were standing around guarding the Black Friday stuff how they felt about working Thanksgiving. I asked about 6 different folks in different departments as well as Ahmad who was working the register (he was the one guy who I didn't think would have much care about Thanksgiving ) what they thought about working the holiday, and how they felt about the potential strike.

4 of the 6 said they've worked holidays their entire life and didn't care one bit. The other 2 said they were happy to just have jobs. 2 of them noted that they got holiday pay so they would have asked to work Thanksgiving. 1 guy said he hated his wife's parents so he was happy I only remember to ask the last guy about union's, and he said he thought they were dumb.

Ahmad just looked at me like I was speaking Cantonese But at least he was polite enough to say "Thanks yooou, haves a happy tanksgibbing"

Your thoughts?

http://money.cnn.com/2012/11/23/news/companies/walmart-protests/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Hundreds of people -- including some employees -- have taken part in Black Friday demonstrations at Wal-Mart stores nationwide, protesting what they say is the retailer's retaliation against speaking out for better pay, fair schedules and affordable health care.

According to organizers from the union-backed group OUR Walmart, hundreds of workers and thousands of supporters rallied across 100 cities, including Landover Hills, Md., Miami, Oakland, Calif., Chicago, Danville, Ky., Dallas and Kenosha, Wis.

In one of the biggest protests, nine people were arrested outside of a Paramount, Calif., Wal-Mart store for failing to disperse, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department statement. An OUR Walmart spokesman said three of those arrested were Wal-Mart workers. Those arrested were to be released without bail, unless they had previous arrest warrants.

The sheriff's department said about 1,000 people arrived by bus and private vehicles to participate in the Paramount protest, which was characterized as peaceful.

In Landover Hills, near Washington. D.C. ,organizers said about 350 people participated, although video of the event showed around 100 participants. Dawn Le, who works for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which backs OUR Walmart, would not say how many of those taking part were Wal-Mart employees.

Wal-Mart (WMT, Fortune 500), in a statement, said there were 26 protests Thursday night, when its stores opened at 8 p.m. to begin Black Friday. It estimated that fewer than 50 Wal-Mart workers participated, and that many of the protests involved no employees at all.

Janna Pea, an OUR Wal-Mart organizer in Dallas, said about 40 workers and about 150 supporters took part in a protest Thursday night.

One of those with her was Josue Mata, who says he walked off his job as an overnight maintenance employee to protest retaliation against people who want to speak out.

"I have four kids and I don't want them to grown up in a society where people disrespect them," he said. "This is a never-ending fight and we're never going to stop."

Mata said he plans to return to work for his next scheduled shift on Sunday evening.

Pea said her protesters went to four Wal-Mart stores across the Dallas area, and while they were able to picket and speak to customers at half of them, they were asked to leave immediately by police at the others.

"We were still able to talk to customers and educate them about what was going on," she said. "We saw one person who was planning to go shopping, but then didn't end up going in. Instead, they rallied with us."

Muhammed Malik, who helped organize a protest at a Miami Wal-Mart, said roughly 70 workers participated in their hour-long demonstration Thursday night. He said one worker walked off his shift as he saw others rallying outside.

Wal-Mart did not immediately respond for comment on OUR Walmart's participation estimates. The company has denied that it has retaliated against protesting workers, and said Friday that it has offered special holiday discounts to its employees for their efforts this season.

My thoughts are that it's much ado about nothing, especially after talking to some of these folks myself. When national headlines become a few hundred people nationwide with very few of them actually being Wal-mart employees, it feels like a bunch of wasted time for everyone involved.

9 times out of 10, protesting is just that.

And when it isn't, usually violence occurs.

Well, what about this one? I'm surprised that GM didn't get this one out there. He must be slipping.

That's what it looked like earlier in the day. Now, all that's left are the center cardboard tubes.
