ESPN: Kent State may make a BCS game! Horrible!

If they face anyone not from the Big East in a BCS bowl game it will be as bad as what Florida did to Cinci a few years ago.

I'd match them up with Oregon.

Oregon's fast, but doesn't have the physical athletes a team like Florida does to "bully" KSU.

is Louisville going to be much better? the odds are the the winner of Kent State v. NoIll will be ranked higher than the Big East champ. Shouldn't that mean they get to go over them?

we're not talking about keeping out Clemson for Kent State. it's the Big East champ. as such,

The Big East Champ gets to go still...

It's justbeing ranked higher than them Qualifies KSU

ok, weird. i misunderstood. thanks for making me go look things up. really strange that they don't get in instead of the BE champ.

as usual, the BCS system is looney (hey, if the MAC champ is ranked higher than the BE champ, they get to go in over a different wildcard team? huh?)

Louisville will now have to wait until Sunday for the updated BCS standings. As long as Louisville finishes ahead of Syracuse in the standings, which they should despite having a head-to-head loss against the Orange, the Cardinals will be awarded the Big East’s automatic BCS berth. Representatives from the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl were each attending the game taking a look at Louisville and their BCS destination may be determined by whether or not Kent State is able to crack the top 16 of the BCS standings.

If Kent State wins the MAC Championship on Friday night in Detroit against Northern Illinois and end the season in the top 16 of the BCS standings and ranked higher than the Big East champion getting the BCS berth, Kent State will advance to a BCS bowl as an automatic berth. If that is the case, Louisville will likely be chosen to play in the Sugar Bowl. If Kent State does not reach the BCS, the Orange Bowl will be the most likely destination for the Cardinals.

Best I've heard it erxplained.

This is all irrelevant because Northern Illinois is going to beat Kent State tonight.

thanks.

and wow, Louisville fans must be cheering for Kent State tonight as well. they'd have a chance at playing Johnny Football in the Sugar Bowl (I think the Sugar will take A&M over the SEC-champ game loser -- better ratings for Heisman finalist + A&M fans will be geeked to go to a BCS game in their first SEC season and show up in droves).

if they go to the Orange, Louisville gets the FSU v. GaTech winner (so likely FSU). Yeah, I think they want the bigger spotlight and potentially bigger upset.

SEC Champ loser will not be allowed to be in a BCS bowl game due to Florida making one (jumping them in the polls after they lose the SEC title game)

And Conferences only being allowed to have 2 teams in BCS games...

EDIT:

I hate all these stupid BCS game rules...

Just pick the best teams and match them up (diff conf though obviously)

What I would do

Orange Bowl
1. Notre Dame
8. Georgia

Fiesta Bowl
2. Alabama
7. Oregon

Sugar Bowl
3. Kansas State
6. Florida State

Rose Bowl
4. Stanford
5. Nebraska

OH HEY LOOK IT'S THE TOP 8** TEAMS IN A BRACKETED FORMAT OMGNOWAY!!!

**It's all the Conference Champs (minus the Big LEast) plus two At Large qulaifiers in Georgia (Made the SEC title game, Florida Didn't) and Oregon (3 points away from the NC game)

My son goes to Louisville and they are STOKED for either the Orange or Sugar Bowl. He and his buds are realistic about their team and Big East football. Obviously, that doesn't dampen their enthusiasm, however, and I'm very excited for them! As a Toledo grad (too many years ago), big bowl games weren't part of my college experience.

come to think of it, I guess if they get to play in the Orange, then FSU will be playing a 2nd ACC champ game this year (since Louisville is joining them in the future)

i used to have all this straight, but they keep changing it.

i thought they got rid of the "only 2" team rule? does that not start until 2014 with the +1? i guess so. ugh.

Is it just me or are the conference championship games a bit of a joke? Well, all but the SEC...

In the ACC you have Georgia Tech with a whopping 5-3 conference record... and a 6-6 overall record...

In the Big 10 you have Wisconsin with a 4-4 conference record... and a 7-5 overall record...

In the PAC 12 you have UCLA who has 3 conference losses, at least they won 9 games...

well, that is what happens when you have two 3rd place division winners make it to the game (though UNC has 3 conference losses, they are 8-4 overall at least).

Pretty excited for tonight, and I don't really have a rooting interest in Kent St. or Northern. Just gonna be a good game, and I love that what's on the line for these two schools is huge.

What sucks is that the schools probably won't dump the BCS money (should the winner get in, I think we all agree they will) back into the program, and in the case of KSU, there is a good chance Darrell Hazell walks.

Beats the crap out of watching the B1G championship tomorrow. I may not even watch. What an awful matchup. I know they played a decent game earlier in the year but I have zero interest in that game.

As I said earlier, Bowling Green hung tough with Florida until the end earlier this season. Kent vs Florida would be a close game.

Once you take the sack it's over...

Not as bad a decision as a DOUBLE REVERSE TO A TIGHT END ON 3RD AND 1...

I'll be totally honest, this is the only KSU game I've seen this year...

But from watching it, I have come to the determination that KSU's QB is not very good..

I don't really know how they won 11 games...

EDIT: Side note, If Boise State, Texas, and UCLA lose, Northern Illinois has a small outside chance of sliding into the top 16...

Yeah, looking back it probably was the smart move, but... man, they were picking up chunks at a time the whole quarter.

Spencer Keith is a gamer

Kent won 11 games this year by having a 2 headed monster running game, a opportunistic defense, a great coach, and a whole lot of heart.

Both of our running backs being hurt didnt help, but honestly NI is just physically, a way more talented team. Us being back in this game was a testament to these guys heart and the type of man Coach Hazell is and what he has brought to this program. I dont think Hazell is going.anywhere, quite yet, but if he does he will have put this Kent football program on a winning track.

I cant express how proud of these kids I am

One of the worst calls I've seen in a long time... if you want to do some 'trickery' do a play fake with a roll out or something...

Why they didn't clock the ball and have two shots at the endzone is on the coaches.

he should have spiked it and had 2 plays. they said he might have thrown a back shoulder to the other guy in the end zone, but it was deflected.. Anyhow great game, the atmosphere was of a national championship. More times than not this game is better than the actual national championship.

The Crimson Tide will be going to Miami and playing for another championship. Hopefully the Irish give them a better game than LSU last time.

Notre Dame has a legit shot. Bama is weaker on defense. Plus Notre Dame could stop the run. I give Bama a slight favorite, but this will be close.

Lacy showed me why Trent may have been overhyped last April. Also Jarvis jones looked awful against the run. Those were my two main thoughts pertaining to us.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Nebraska has no heart, 454 yards rushing given up and the 3rd quarter isn't over yet.
