TRADE FOR GREEN GETTING CLOSER
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that a trade between the Dolphins and the Chiefs for quarterback Trent Green is getting closer to becoming a reality.
Per Schefter, the Dolphins and Green have nearly reached an agreement on a new contract, which surely would reduce significantly Green's base salary of $7.2 million.
The only remaining hurdle is the striking of a deal between Miami and Kansas City. Published reports indicate that the Fins are willing to send the seventh-round pick (one of the last in the draft) that was obtained from the Patriots as part of the Wes Welker trade. The Chiefs, apparently, want more.
And it's becoming increasingly clear that Green wants the deal to get done. "Trent would like to be there," agent Jim Steiner tells the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "He has a relationship with [Dolphins coach] Cam Cameron that goes back 10 years ago when both were with the Washington Redskins together. It's an offense he's familiar with and there would be an excellent working relationship."
If the trade goes through, the deal would make Damon Huard the starting quarterback in Kansas City. But we've got a feeling that the Chiefs won't stand pat with Huard, and that they might try to find a way to upgrade.
Another option for the future is second-year signal-caller Brodie Croyle.
The deal also would raise questions about the future of Daunte Culpepper in Miami.
The last line is the zinger for me.
Personally I always thought pretty well of Culpepper, I think his time in Miami will be limited by his salary and the knee. But he would represent a different dimension in the Cleveland offense.
Would he be worth pursuing as a free agent?
I just hope that the OL is better than with Frye.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

If they are going with Brady Croyle over Culpepper that kind of tells you how good (or bad) Culpepper is... personally I think he's over-rated and benefited from two top notch WRs.

Culpepper was a pretty good QB for a while. But I think his time has passed. His athletic ability has waned and I'm not sure he ever was particularly good at reading defences. At his peak, he'd air it out to Moss and Carter and they'd do the heavy work.

Without Scott Linehan, Culpepper is DOA.

If Green goes to Miami, the handwriting is on the wall for Daunte, I'm afraid. They aren't going to want to pay both Green and Culpepper. I don't think the Browns will (nor should they) be interested in him assuming he gets released. It'll be interesting to see if Oakland decide to pick him up to match up with Moss again, however.

Yeah, I'll 2nd this. I never thought much of him at all, and now he's a walking medical textbook with his injury history it seems.
I'd rather we just pass on him.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Croyle - Chief Culpepper - Dolphin
You are mixing two stories
I'd rather Carr over Culpepper period!
Culpepper has never been the same NOT since he blew out his entire knee, but since he lost Randy Moss (and likewise for Moss).

If Culpepper is released hope he becomes the Steelers, Bengals, or Ravens starter because it would make it that much easier to win.....
Go Browns!!

My guess is that if Culpepper has anything left in the Tank,, Billick will want him in Baltimore to be backup to McNair,,, that would be a good fit actually..
As for here,, It all depends,, If savage thinks we need a new QB, my guess is that he'll get one in the draft this year,, that's a HUGE IF however. I doubt iif he goes for Culpepper,,,,

I agree completely. He'd be a great QB to go to for three or four games right now. His injury was pretty rough and has obviously taken its toll. He's not ready right now.
However, Culpepper and his injury are unique in that I believe he could go somewhere and be a back up for two years - get some time to heal and improve on the mental side of the game- and then re emerge as a starter.
Baltimore would be a fantastic place for him with McNair to tutor him and be a role model. McNair almost never misses a game bet is rarely taking snaps during the week. Culpepper would get tons of practice snaps, time to heal, and learn how to be an intellegent QB from one of hte best. In two years when McNair is done Culpepper would be ready to step up as a starter.

He is if that's all that's offered and he doesn't retire! But you are probably right, someone will offer him a huge contract that is easy to get out of if the tank is empty..

I live in the MN market, watched and was frustrated by him for a long time. Once he lost Moss, and that double coverage that Moss took- he could not read the defense. The year he blew his knee, oh man, that was painful. He was so bad at reading the defense that forget about the double coverage- he was constantly throwing into the triple coverage. The dolphins found this out in a hurry-- i still think they blamed it on his knee and the immobility- made for a nice excuse to bench him. If the dolphins acquire Green, they will have to do something with Culpepper. Either restructure the contract or release him. If he hits the streets, i really hope the Browns do not pursue him. If you think Frye is a turnover machine- let me introduce you to Dante.

Agreed, Culpepper in Cleveland would be a trainwreck.

Culpepper makes sense on the raiders. or the ravens as other posters said. i could see him as a chief cause i doubt they would want huard or croyle to start. Lions are a possibility. Browns i guess. but teams that need QBs will go for David Carr 1st.

I do not want Dante in Cleveland's Brown and Orange. He's way over the hill and like most are saying, I'm not sure how good he really would have been without Moss, Carter, and Jake Reed. He had his moment in the sun but now it's gone, he will most likely be a backup or retire. I would not make him a starter. I don't even want him as a backup in Cleveland. I'd much rather have Carr.
