Why are the ads on the top of the board now?

Newer, more buoyant ads.... they float to the top now.

Truthfully, it's because the amount that they have been paying has dropped off significantly while my expenses for the hosting are about to more than double... so I'm just moving the one to try to optimize things in the hopes that the new ad placement ("above the fold" in newspaper terms) gets Google to pay better.

My Internet Security completely blocks them. Just a big white rectangle to me!

Well, there is no set answer to that as some ads pay by clicks and others by # of page views, but generally speaking.. Yes, it pays more if they are clicked, but it will also "know" that something is up if it sees 51 clicks from the same IP address and then pay nothing for them, not to mention that fraudulent clicking can get it shut down as well.

All I can say is that if the ad is something that interests you, give it a click and check it out.... and if it interests you again tomorrow, check it out once tomorrow as well. The Google Search thing on the Search page pays as well if a sponsored link in the search results is clicked.

Are the ads what are causing the "Click here to install ActiveX control: 'Adobe Flash Player' from 'Adobe Systems Incorporated' " every time I click on the site now?

Or is it my system?

Should I install it, ya think?

If the Ad is a Flash ad and you don't have Flash installed, then yes that could cause that.

That would have been the case for quite a while now, not something new as it has been serving Ads in Flash almost since the beginning.

Will it FUBAR my computer to install it do you think? I tend not to trust things that prompt me to install them ...

No, it won't fubar the computer.

Flash is a standard browser plugin that enables animations and sound.

Adobe Flash Player is the standard for delivering high-impact, rich Web content. Designs, animation, and application user interfaces are deployed immediately across all browsers and platforms, attracting and engaging users with a rich Web experience.

It's the defacto web industry standard for what it does.
It's made by Adobe, so it has a company with a solid reputation behind it.

If you enjoy the site and enjoy it being a free site that isn't always bugging you for donations and such, click once a day. 5 to 10 seconds of your time is not that much to ask for all you get in return.

I'll second that, i click once a day also. It helps to click on a subject that interests you, hence Australia Chat for me. Y'know just checking out the munters, mingers and saddo's looking for deep and meaningfuls in my area.

Are they going to rotate in more than the three banners I keep seeing? I've clicked them all (except the nasty Bengals one, of course) and don't want to keep clicking or they'll know I'm just clicking to click.

no idea, hehe.

I'm fixing to check with Google to see about getting permission to add some keywords to the ad code to more pointedly direct the Ads. The ability to do it is undocumented and you have to have their permission to do it, but it would at least hopefully ensure that the Ads are at least sports related if not NFL related. I'm sure Vectren Source Natural Gas interests us all , but I'm not certain that it's the best thing that could be advertising here

You're looking at it bass-ackward.
Stooler & Bungle crap is paying for this site.

Babe, I'll look at it again, but I doubt it. The actual links are fed to the site by Google, I don't have any real way of controlling them.

If you are using Internet Explorer though, you can get *any* link to open in a new window by holding down the Shift key when you click. If you have IE7, you can use Ctrl + Click to open in a new tab.
