I know many people on my twitter timeline who follow some of the Phelps family. Not because they support their actions or views, but because they seem to want to know what these people are up to.
I refuse to follow, or retweet to my followers anything from them.
They threatened to show up in Chardon after the shootings there, but no-showed. I have a feeling there is a better chance here because of the magnitude and attention of this situation.
Seeings interviews and reading about this town, I don't think it will matter, these people seem unbelievably resilient and beyond peaceful. They'll adjust.
I think outside of what happened on 9/11, this might be the worst thing I have ever seen in my 31 years on earth.
I honesty try to have peace in my heart and not wish for bad things to happen to people because honestly, I got too much love in my heart to be hateful.
However I genuinely hope these people rot in hell.
I must have an evil side, because the first thought that popped into my head was this:
Why can't a whacko strike these idiots instead of killing little, innocent, children?
I really hate thinking stuff like that.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
I feel the same way as you. I don't understand Why they have to show up and disrespect the mourning families. It doesn't prove any points and actually sours people towards Christianity
I just don't see what it gains them in any way whatsoever.
Do they point out that there is evil in the world? I would think that it would be self-evident, especially given the events of the past few days. However, dumping pain on top of evil does nothing at all to make the world a better place.

When it comes to extremism, it hurts religion and both political parties. These are the type of people who garner the headlines and get so much attention that many people are turned off religion as a whole.
I'm sure there must be some dirt in their closets. Maybe we will get lucky and Larry Flynt will have them investigated and bring some findings to light that would totaly show hypocricy among the leadership like he's done to so many before.
Sick em' Larry!
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
They are human trolls. If nobody paid them any attention they would just go away. That being said I wish we could pack them into a truck and send them to live in a 3rd world country somewhere.

"A good tree cannot bear bad fruit and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."
-- Matthew 7:18-20
Jesus used these words to describe false prophets in his day, but it applies to anyone who claims to speak for God. The Westboro "Church" is a tree that bears rotten fruit. While it isn't for me to judge their eternal fate, if members of this group actually read more than the handful of verses they use to justify their hatred, they wouldn't behave this way. They are "Christians" in name only.

You, of course, make the error that these people are Christians. Nobody mistakes them as Christians. Satanists have more respect for Christ than these people.
With that said, these people would want to be martyred for their cause. I think it's actually what they want. Their legacy would be one that some idiots would take up their cause and advance it.
They should find themselves as the only members of a military draft lottery. Of course, they would claim that they are strict pacifists. Calling themselves 'Baptists' defeats that notion and they should be drafted into the military and sent to Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Turkish border duty, etc.
That is, if they manage to survive two days of boot camp as they other recruits are told who they are. You'd just find reports in the news that inexplicable accidents keep befalling members of the Westboro Baptist Church.

They were paid no attention so they screamed louder and got even more obscene.

The thing that ticks me off most is that atheists, of which there are plenty I know, love to group all people who believe in God together.
Most people who have faith don't press it on everyone else, and don't spread hate. They're everyday people who mind their own business.
I saw a special some months ago on a girl who left WBC. She lost her kids, they stayed with the father who is still part of their group (I'm not calling it a church) and she does not get to see them. She just couldn't take the hate and some of the hypocrisy going on.
Westboro Baptist Church is a scam. They are mostly comprised of the family of their founder, and a large percentage of them are lawyers. ( http://www.npr.org/2011/03/02/134198937/a-peek-inside-the-westboro-baptist-church ) They make money through a large family law practice, and by the donations of the lunatic fringe their "cause" appeals to. They also make money by suing any municipalities that might abrogate their 1st Amendment rights by blocking their protests, and by suing any individual that assaults their members personally. It is why they choose such emotionally charged funerals to stage their "protests". They are slip-and-fall lawyers; ambulance chasers - the type of attorneys that give the profession a bad name. They are Christians in the same way James Jones and his cult was - in name only.
There is a group of war vet motorcyclists called Patriot Guard who, at the request of families, have provided "funeral escorts" to block WBC from intruding on grief-stricken families of fallen soldiers. I have read they will be attending the memorial in Newtown. I'd like to shake those guys' hands.
Someone call up the students at Texas A&M... see if they can bus up to surround the funerals...
just makes me sick that this 'church' would protest funerals in this way... I think they have a right to their beliefs (twisted as they are), but the way they go about spreading their beliefs is horrible.
The recent, tragic shootings in Connecticut weigh heavy on us all. The Patriot Guard understands the anguish caused by such a calamity as this and our hearts go out to the family and friends of those affected by this horrific event.
We (PGR) receive hundreds of emails a day requesting the PGR to stand in honor at the planned services. However, the PGR is not a counter protest group. Our mission statement is clear and regrettably the circumstances surrounding this tragic event do not fall within our mission statement. For more details on our missions statement, please go to www.PatriotGuard.org and review the information located in the “About Us” section in the Site Navigation section.
Again, our hearts go out to all of the families of the affected families, and to the community as a whole, for this tremendous loss.

if thier ultimate goal is to be made martyrs then so be it . If any human desreves to die it is these animals . My only hope is that they are put in a situation that maximizes fear and pain before the end comes.
I'd love to roll out a giant mirror in front of them, so they can see that they're spreading hate.
If you want to argue the existence of God, that's fine, but everything I've read about him says he would want you to treat others with respect and love, regardless of whatever stance they have.
They were praising these shootings, that's just horrible. I don't believe for a second they mean what they say.
These people are absolutely absurd and disgusting. It makes my ears hot, literally, because when I read about them, I think my blood pressure gets into the quadruple digits.
That being said, I absolutely 100% support their right to say and do their abhorrent brand of "protesting." Just like the 2nd amendment grants people the right to bear arms, the 1st amendment protects the right to speech and assembly. Just because we don't agree with them doesn't mean we should shut them down. That's not directed at anyone in particular, mind you. I haven't seen anyone say they shouldn't be allowed to do it.
That all being said, while I support their right to be stupid and do stupid things, I also support the right of maybe 20,000 or 30,000 people to show up and make sure these people don't get anywhere near the funeral sites.
In the meantime, if these people all got hit by a bus, I'm not sure any of us would feel too badly.
Quote: I know that people will step up. I thought it was awesome when the Chardon people formed that giant chain, even if those wackos didn't show up.
Yeah, I wouldn't sweat it too much. I don't think this Westboro group will cause a big problem.
I don't live too far from Newtown, and looking at my facebook, I see that people will show up if need be to create some sort of chain to keep these people away. Newtown's a small community too, and CT is a small sort of state. Pretty tight knit. I don't think the bureaucracy of it all is going to get in the way of figuring a way to minimize these protesters.
Remember that kid in school, who would say or do anything to get attention, even if it was negative?
If you ignored them, they eventually went away.
yep, its kind of like Howard Stern always said, negative press is still press. Do some crazy stuff and if it gets people outraged they are paying attention.
You may be in the drivers seat but God is holding the map. #GMSTRONG
If they don't want to get hurt bad, they will stay away from this one. This is 6 year old kids and the whole country would be on their ass.I would consider going to CT myself and whip on a few of them.

Well the group "Anonymous" has taken Westboro's plan personal and they are going after them.
Members of the hacktivist group Anonymous have targeted the Westboro Baptist Church after the hate-mongering, quasi-religious group announced plans to protest a Sunday night vigil in remembrance of the Sandy Hook shooting victims, 20 of whom were just 6 and 7 years old.
On Saturday, Westboro Baptist Church spokesperson Shirley Phelps-Roper tweeted that the group would be protesting the vigil in Newtown, Conn., to "sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment."
Anonymous apparently vowed retaliation as part of #OpWestBor in a video posted to Vimeo under the handle KY Anonymous. "We will not allow you to corrupt the minds of America with your seeds of hatred," says the voice-over in the video. "We will not allow you to inspire aggression to the social factions which you deem inferior. We will render you obsolete. We will destroy you. We are coming."
On Sunday, Anonymous posted to Pastebin a list of data that it claimed belonged to Westboro members. The data included names, street addresses, phone numbers and email addresses, according to CNET.
The move was announced on @YourAnonNews, the collective's main mouthpiece on Twitter.

Phelps-Roper's Twitter was also hacked and the Westboro Baptist Church's website was taken down. Anonymous claimed responsibility for both via the @YourAnonNews account.
@YourAnonNews is also asking followers to sign a petition against Westboro's tax-exempt status. Because of its status as a religious entity, the Westboro Baptist Church is able to avoid paying taxes.
A post on the White House's "We the People" online petition forum explains the petition:
"The Westboro Baptist Church is better-known for homophobic displays, suing people and picketing funerals than for providing Christian care to a community. Due to their harassment and politicking, their IRS tax-exempt status should be immediately investigated."
Another petition wants Westboro to be recognized not as a religious group, but as a hate group.
Anonymous was not the only group that fought back against Westboro over the weekend. Reddit users announced plans to travel to Newtown to create “a silent blockade during the funeral processions" to hinder any possible Westboro Baptist Church protests, according to a CT News blog post.
The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church is best known for picketing the funerals of U.S. soldiers and AIDS victims, because of its anti-gay stance. The group has also picketed the funerals of victims of the Tucson, Ariz., shooting and the Aurora, Colo., movie theater massacre.
