During recent press conferences about the future of the Browns coaching staff the new ownership has made it very clear about what they are looking for in a coach for their team. They have stated that the following factors will NOT play a role in their decision. The play calling and the final record of wins versus losses. What they have stated over and over again is leadership. They have clearly stated that football much like business requires a very strong leader. As they point to other NFL teams that have a long record of success they all have one common trait. That trait is a coach and QB that are strong leaders. What is a leader? Websters defines it as a person who directs a military force or unit (2) : a person who has commanding authority or influence. Based on this I believe both Shummer and Weeden have a crises of leadership. As I look at both the coach and the QB I do not see any of them manifest the traits of a leader. We have players speaking out against the playing calling and the ability to stick with the game plan. Others have spoke out about play time etc. The lack of desire to win, or even fight is a refection of the coach. Since this issue of leadership is so important to the new ownership I thought it would be interesting for fellow Dawg Talkers to list the leadership qualities they see in both the coach and the QB. Also what leadership qualities do you want in your next coach?

I see no leadership traits in either. That is why I strongly believe they will both be gone next year.

I would love to see someone who cares more about getting the best players on the field then being right. I want the guy that the players will have a healthy fear of when they screw up. I want the guy who has respect and does not have to demand it. I want the guy who is not afraid of being fired and is willing to demonstrate tough love and trust his players. Just my humble thoughts. Your turn.

I wonder if that could be the nail in Shurmurs coffin.

His Xs and Os seem legit...but idk how well he leads his guys...they play hard for him, but idk how much they trust him...

QFE that is the telling factor. The players IMHO are playing for themselves and not as much for Shurmur, They are trying to win in spite of him and I see zero chance he remains.

If you need 3 years to be a winner you got here 2 years to early. Get it done Browns.

I don't buy into that. If a leader is someone that has his players play for him, wouldn't Romeo fit that mold? To me a leader is someone who produces under any circumstance laid before him. Poor play, bad personal moves etc etc.. Its a matter of opinion.

Philadelphia Eagles diehard who also likes the Browns.
