He's not going to copy and paste his Oregon offense into the NFL. He realizes that won't work at all.

And neither has the crap we've tried since 1999!
I have NO idea what to expect but BORING would be an upgrade over what we've seen generally around here the last 13 years!

I'll say this. If we truly do land Kelly, I'm willing to bet we get a primetime game this year, either Sunday night or Monday night. Let's face it, it's a pretty big coup if the hottest coaching prospect in quite some time goes to Cleveland over places like Philly or San Diego.
JMHO
I'm pretty sure they will but like I said ,dude's got to come out and win more games than the previous guys .Oh and that Dr.Livingston article is funny..all the Big 12 teams use the spread and gun..BW just was not a running QB..

Really good article on Kelly. Everyone needs to read it.
I think McCoy might thrive under the offense. There's a quote in there about Kelly preferring the mobile QB who can run. Not a Tebow type, though. I know many doubt McCoy but he looked good in Denver. Well, he looked good when he wasn't doing his best Jose Mesa impression of throwing balls into the turf.
Excellent read. Thanks.
Everyone hated Belichick he wasnt good with the media he didnt go things the way others did it. Kelly could be the biggest bust ever, but I dont think that is going to be the case.
The man knows football. Hes not some crazy fool with a crazy scheme. He knows why hes running a play and what will make that play work.
On a side note with Lombardi hes been scouting FA for every team in the NFL because that's what he does see which FA are most likely to land with which teams. So he can talk about it in the off season. No real news to that IMHO. Just how you present it.
If you need 3 years to be a winner you got here 2 years to early. Get it done Browns.

The most recent ESPN article doesn't give me warm fuzzies that we'll even get Kelly. Of course we probably/maybe(?) will...but Philly is a pretty tempting offer too (should they offer him anything)... http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/881445...adelphia-eagles

yes and maybe its like some folks are saying that these other interviews are formalities...but if Philly offered me similar money to Cleveland, I would *probably* head to Philly

Yeah, apparently he met with us for 7 hours today, met with the Bills tonight, and of course the eagles tomorrow. Meeting with us for that long and then moving on makes me a little worried. I'm hoping his other meetings are just to tell the teams thanks but no thanks, "I'm going to Cleveland."

Yup, makes it sound like he isn't certain Cleveland is where he wants to be or he would have already accepted, so its very possible we'll lose him still.

Wouldn't it be rude to not meet w/ everybody that flew to Arizona to meet w/ him? I never thought he'd pick us and then cancel w/ Philly & Buffalo.
It's weird. I have felt two totally different feelings of nervousness this evening. Once when he was 'close a deal w/ us' and a totally different sort when the 'might not pick us' talk began.
I gotta get to bed . . .

It would seem that the last team you interview with, would be the one you sign with. But who knows..

Kyle shanahan hasn't interviewed with anyone yet, so it's not like we'd be in a bind if Kelly says no.

Andy Reid opted not to interview with the Cardinals when he knew he was going to be in KC so I don't think its really rude, seems like it would be more rude to string teams along when you are certain where you want to be.
Makes me think Kelly is pretty undecided overall or at the very least hes going to legitimately listen to what Philly and Buffalo have to say.

Yeah this is kinda some damper on the feel good. I guess Ive been expecting to be rejected all day and was kinda on a high thinking perhpas this is a lock. Kelly is very smart, he knows what he's looking for. I truely hope/d we can be that place.
If he goes elsewhere or stays with the Ducks at least we gave him a solid pitch. Why else spend 7 hours you wont get back unless you really were interested in what we had to say?

They have or will eventually interview . . . Mike McCoy Bruce Arians Pete Carmichael, Jr. (Saints OC) Tom Clements (Packers OC) Joe DeCamillis (Cowboys Special Teams) Mike Sullivan (Buccs OC)
And they still need a Rooney Rule guy . . .

I don't want a coach who's still stuck in the Stone Age and thinks playing slow and running the football is the key to winning a ring in today's league.

I can't really keep track of who all everybody supports in this thread, but are you a Chip Kelly guy?
His offensive philosophy starts and ends with the run.
It's just a gut feeling, but I think that with defenders getting lighter to defend the pass happy NFL right now, eventually we are going to see a swing back to a nasty running game.

The Buffalo Bills announced Friday night on Twitter that they have formally interviewed University of Oregon coach Chip Kelly, former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith and Syracuse University head coach Doug Marrone. The Bills' official website said the interview with Kelly took place late Friday in Arizona, one day after Kelly led the Ducks to a victory in the Fiesta Bowl. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport previously reported on Friday that Kelly was close to signing a deal to become the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns, however. Smith's interview also was Friday. Smith, who has 17 years of NFL coaching experience plus 13 years as a collegiate coach, was described as having the most experience in Buffalo's candidate pool. Marrone has been Syracuse University's head football coach since 2009. Prior to joining Syracuse, Marrone spent three seasons as offensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints. The Browns and Philadelphia Eagles are also interested in Marrone. web page

Kelly meeting with the other teams could be anywhere from him not wanting to coach the Browns to him wanting to go through the process to him wanting to keep his leverage up in contract negotiations with Cleveland. We'll find out soon enough, I guess.

The positive in this IMO was the length of the interview and Kelly agreeing to meet with us again after his last interview.
Seven hours is a long interview. This wasn't Haslam and Banner ranting away for seven hours. Kelly had to be very engaged is asking questions At some point if you aren't interested, you stop asking questions.
It is also a good sign he will return later tonight. Maybe it will simply be to say he likes his options elsewhere, but I have a feeling he does view the Cleveland job as a great opportunity.
I think he likes the young roster and likes the fact we have been a down program. We all want to win, but my feeling is the pressures to win right out of the gate are higher in Philly.
Just call it a feeling, but I think we have the inside edge.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

It could also have to do with whos travelling where to meet who. Meaning, I believe Reid went to KC to meet with them and was scheduled to go to Arizona. He liked KCs offer so why travel to Arizona. The Cards would not really be out anything.Cleveland, Philly, Buffalo etc. all went to Arizona to meet with Kelley it would seem appropriate that he listen to what each has to say.

Looking like Joe and Jimmy wooed him.
Not sure how accurate that article is. Adam Schefter just reported that the Eagles are flying to Arizona today to meet with Kelly.

I don't get why folks here think he is going to come in and run the SAME offense as he does/did at Oregon??? He WILL adjust to the NFL as he is a smart guy and a very good coach..
Relax folks and the let the process run it's corse..

I don't get that either. He knows that he's going to have to change some stuff, and will probably try to innovate on other things.
Anyway ...... I just hope that we wind up getting the best of the best out of this group of head coaches. I would prefer Arians .... and I think that he's gonna be a great head coach ...... but I see the potential for greatness in Kelly. Anytime a guy creates new ways of doing things ..... even if they are relatively minor changes, and he succeeds, he has to be looked at as an innovator ....... and innovators often find themselves ahead of the curve, instead of way behind like we have been for years and years.

Or it could mean that the Browns want to wait until Tuesday so they can make one final run at Saban after the BCS NC game.

Common sense says he'd be an idiot if he didn't explore all his options.
If the Browns offer him $4 million per season and free reign to setup his own offense, done deal, right? What if the Bills make it $8 million?
He's gotta make the rounds because his situation isn't like Reid who wanted full control over everything.
We're 90% certain to get Kelly. The only way he isn't here is if some team takes our offer and effectively doubles it.

Kelly and Dunn using their leverage while they have it Posted by Darin Gantt on January 5, 2013, 9:36 AM EST Give them credit for drawing up plays that keep the pressure on opponents. Oregon coach Chip Kelly and his agent, David Dunn, are working the system to its fullest, in an effort to extract the best deal possible. Word leaked out last night that Kelly was close to a deal with the Browns, which made sense because new owner Jimmy Haslam clearly wants to make a culture-changing splash, and isn’t afraid to spend a pile of money to do it. The funny part of the immediate aftermath last night was hearing chatter that the Eagles really weren’t that interested in Kelly anyway. It was as predictable as it was lame. Now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s reporting that the Eagles are flying to Arizona to meet with Kelly today, to take one last chance at getting the prettiest girl in school to go to the prom with them. NFL Network’s Albert Breer says Kelly will have lunch with the Eagles, but has dinner scheduled with the Browns. The Bills have seemingly been reduced to a late-night Taco Bell run. Either way, it seems close to ending, soon. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer says Kelly will make a decision tonight. It’s a fast-paced process, with money and control flying around the way his Oregon teams scored points. At the end of the night, the only sure winners are Kelly and Dunn. web page
