Hasn't met with Browns yet. Still in meetings with Eagles organization according to Mary Kay. Anyone getting nervous? http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2013/01/cleveland_browns_not_meeting_w.htmlCleveland Browns not meeting with Oregon's Chip Kelly yet because he's still with the Eagles By: Mary Kay Cabot The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND -- The Browns are not meeting with Oregon's Chip Kelly yet, because he was still with the Eagles as of 9:15 p.m. eastern, a league source told the Plain Dealer. The Eagles' had a lunch meeting with Kelly in Arizona that's stretched into the dinner hour. The Browns were set to meet with Kelly over dinner, and hoped to hammer out a deal, but he's been tied up with Eagles owner Jeff Lurie, president Don Smolenski and general manager Howie Roseman. The Browns are set to bring their lawyers to the session with Kelly and sign him to a long-term contract to become their 14th fulltime head coach. The competition for Kelly's services pits Browns CEO Joe Banner against his former employer Lurie, his boyhood friend. Kelly also interviewed Friday night with the Bills after a seven-hour session with the Browns, including new owner Jimmy Haslam. All three clubs have also interviewed Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone, Kelly is the Browns' top choice, and they were reportedly the frontrunner heading into today's events, according to Ian Rappaport of nfl.com

Just saw this. Not good at all.......
I dunno how I feel about Kelly, but I do want us to get our number 1 candidate. And if we lose on this one, we're gonna look like total fools to some of the other coaches, as they'll know they weren't our first choice.

I'll say that I thought Philly would be his no. 1 choice from the beginning. Feel like they have the personnel he'd want, though no one has any idea exactly what system he's going to run.

C'mon now, let's not get silly. Well, sillier. We wouldn't be the first team in history to not land a "first choice", and we certainly won't be the last.

Yeah, I feel like we might have gotten the "Let's say we're in close negotiations with the Browns, so we have more leverage in getting our deal with the Eagles".
And fans just get let completely down

Saban was our #1 candidate, so if we lose Kelly, we'll look like twice-cooked fools?

So it comes down to this
1) If he stays in a meeting with the Eagle he is the new Eagles Head Coach
or
2) If he exits their meeting without an agreement, Kelly will be the Browns head coach.
Go Browns!!

What I'd be curious to see is, if Kelly goes to the Eagles, what the two sides' offers were. If it's all essentially the same, then I'd say either Haslam/Banner offended Kelly in some way or Kelly had his eyes on the Eagles the whole time.

Looks like it. If he skips out on us, I'm gonna be pretty let down. I felt like something was going to go our way for once with what the media was saying about us lastnight.

Just read that Eagles are close to a 5 year agreement with Kelly. I never really thought Kelly would pick us over the Eagles anyway, so I am not surprised. Just some leveraging to get the Eagles to pony up quicker.
Oh well, on to the next one...

If anyone is wondering, they are in compliance with he Rooney Rule. Quote:
While in Atlanta, they also interviewed special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, a Bucks County native. Armstrong is black, so the Eagles are already in compliance with the Rooney Rule that mandates teams to interview a minority before hiring a head coach.

Why would he come here when Philly already has the personel that he desires? Never really made sense.
The only advantage we have is our youth.

This heavily dampens a lot of enthusiasm I had yesterday. I really hope whoever we had as another choice is not some person that is incompetent such as Shurmur. I am tired of settling for second/third choices....

I gotta say... I'm kinda pulling for Philly on this one. I don't want any part of The Chip Kelly Experiment. I just don't think he's the genius some folks make him out to be. C'mon Lurie... Save the Browns from themselves.

Awesome, so lose out on Kelly for better or worse and end up with some dolt who won't last more than 2-3 years.
Cleveland needs a change and a big one at this, but no one wants to come to this toilet bowl of a team or city.

This is what seperates an organization that has a lot of experience with their higher ups and our rookie run team.
If Haslem and Banner wanted him you don't let him go talk to other teams after meeting for 7 hours, you give the man what he wants and don't let him leave to explore other options.
You let him see what else is out there and you get burned, the Eagles won't make that mistake, he won't be coming to dinner with the Browns.

Being reported that the Browns are also interested in Doug Marrone.
Haslam's going to have an awfully hard sell to the fans bringing in a guy who went .500 through his career at Syracuse.

I prefer Whisenhut. He's been to a Super Bowl and knows what it takes to get there.

Right why shoot for the moon and perhaps crash when you can have nice solid dirt. If he goes to Philly at this point I will be disappointed for sure. I guess thats why they are eagles and we are well Browns.

Whisenhunt - 9-23 Marrone - 25-25
Arians (HC only) - 9-3
So I guess Arians would be next choice, but god that's pretty scary.

I agree with a couple others. How can you sell someone on Doug Marrone, 25-25 at the college level? Has anyone watched his games at length? What is his offensive philosophy? What are his game plans like? I only saw the pinstripe bowl and I wasn't particularly impressed with anything. Does anyone watch this guy?

And what were the Browns supposed to do? Lock him up, kidnap him and not let him leave until he signs a contract. For all we know they did offer him what he wanted, but he wanted to honor his word to the other teams and at least meet with them. Maybe he knew he was the Browns #1 choice and just used them for leverage. It's all speculation at this point.

While I would probably pick him as my next choice I still would feel like Im going to the prom with my mom. I wanted a bold new Browns team, one that was willing to do whatever it took to move into the new era of football.
I'll give Haslam credit for at least trying.

My father watched a few games of theirs this year. I only know this because he was talking about it in a car ride home in which I told him, "Who cares, UConn's athletics program is going down the tubes. We weren't invited to the party, and so we're stuck going to Conference USA. The Governor and everyone involved with UConn needs to be fired"
But anyway, he said that Syracuse was really good this year, and I have noticed that they have gotten better over the past two years. Last year they beat UConn and I was kinda like What? It was a close game and all, but they were much better at throwing the football. They beat West Virginia this year I think too. I watched some of their game against USC, but that was early on in the year and nothing really jumped out at me. But yeah, dad was saying that they're good (doing his usual, the Big East teams are underrated" speeches)
But, on the other hand, UConn has Syracuse's old coach and I think the guy sucks (if that means anything). I wanted to offer 4 million bucks to Jim Tressel or something
