Maybe we still get Arians.

I'd be ok with this, Marrone just seems like a major letdown if hes the pick.

.500 coach in college and 2 years as an NFL OC where he didn't even call plays

Hard to rally your fanbase around that.

Arians would be a lot better hire IMO but sounds like Marrone is the target if Kelly stands us up for a late dinner.

Would love Arians.

Read earlier that he wants the Cleveland job very badly but wasn't even given an interview.

And why should he? Why should his accomplishments mean anything? He's not a name. Jimbo is interested in a name to keep that revenue rolling in.

This makes us look like bigger losers than we already are. Whether Kelly was the answer we most likely will never know...but this time line makes me just want to smack someone:

1) Interview Kelly for 7 hours and report we're ready to meet tomorrow at dinner to sign a deal
2) Philly and Buffalo both interview
3) Philly runs over on interview and Kelly blows off dinner
4) We suddenly say Marrone and Kelly are neck and neck

I'm mostly agitated because we're always runner up, Kelly may have sucked in Cleveland but we didn't get our target

wrong time line.
Haslam buys Browns.
Banner joins Haslam and tells him of his master plan.
Banner and Haslam smile on Monday morning at each other (Haslams words)
Heckert and Shurmur are fired.
Browns are rudderless ATM and Banners master plan may be a worse failure then keeping Shurmur which I didnt think could be possible..

To be continued........

I said in the vote thread this was about Kelly interveiwing Banner and by extention Haslam.

At this point key it would be freakin' hilarious.

How can you secretly scheme to get a guy for more than a month (according to NFL network people), meet with him face to face, and lose him to another team a day later. Only the Browns. Oh they will spin how Marrone was their guy all along, but anyone with a brain knows that's BS considering they were backdoor meeting him for the last month.

Complete. Utter. Fail.

Welcome to Cleveland guys! I see your already finding new ways to fit in.

Kelly hasn't signed with anyone yet.

I swear to god this board has some of the most knee jerk reaction fans I've ever seen.

You know Heckert is going to take the blame for them failing to land Kelly.

But I do wonder how much responsibility Banner will bear in all of this. And your point about him being interviewed by the candidates is spot on. When you're a top candidate and you are picking where you want to go, the interview is a two way street.

Would love to be a fly on the wall in these meetings.

And I wonder what old Jimbo is going to think once the dust settles. Banner convinced Jimbo that if we give the coach total control, we will get our guy. If they don't get Kelly, wonder what old James will be thinking.

true however it's not just this board... everyone following cK is talking about it. it's on the news right now.

It was said he would make a decision tonight... will that come true or not? 31 minutes to find out.

Would you blow off someone who was about to hand you millions of dollars? Come on man, this isn't as knee jerk as most things that clutter these boards.

Haslem and Banner were sitting there hungry and decided to throw out this Marrone crap.

It's the Browns.....we all KNOW how this is going to end. No knee jerk reaction, but rather we have been Pavlovian conditioned by them to respond this way.

Blow off? It was an INTERVIEW. The interview went long, if he signs he signs. The dude has a future in the NFL to think about and he would be a complete idiot not to take all the time he can with both teams to figure it out.

Maybe he comes back to Cleveland maybe he doesn't, but the people saying Banner and Haslam just got punked basically and "welcome to the NFL" have no basis for this because he hasn't even signed yet.

Oh come on, stop being so gloom and doom. You KNOW you want you some Doug Marrone. I mean he was the O Coordinator for a dominant offense in New Orleans. Well, no he didn't technically call the plays. Well....yes he had one of the top 5 QBs in the NFL. But, but....yeah they did better with the same personnel AFTER he left. But come ON. He got Syracuse to .500 in the powerhouse known as the Big East. Oh wait, what's that? The Big East doesn't exist anymore?

So goes the life of a Cleveland fan.

On the other hand maybe they were just chillin' watching the playoff games and eating BW3s? Now he'll give them high fives and apologize for running over by a few hours?

8:30 there now I believe?

Lol. This goes a long way in showing that newer isn't better.

Let me state that Haslem is in no way worse than Lerner....as that isn't humanly possible. However, many proclaimed great times coming when he took over based on the fact he wasn't Lerner. I understand the thought process as Randy sucked much butt lint as an owner. My feeling in all this is simply what if Haslem is in over his head too?

In his first act as owner it certainly doesn't look good so far.

I think Marrone would be the much better choice for this team. Similar style of offense, similar styled defense and lets face it the guy's name is always brought up when talking about turning Brees into the star he is.

I would prefer Lovie or Whisenhunt and the prospects of Kelly's approach is intriguing and also a bit scary. I am no Saban fan either. I dont like the college route but Marrone might be the right guy.

Dude I will be the first one to eat crow and congratulate J/J for getting their man if Kelly signs here. However, having root for the Browns for 39 years now I can tell you I all but guarantee you my wife's chili will be the only thing I will have to consume this evening...lol.

Arians has said that he really loves the talent we have here in Cleveland, and he feels that it's one of the most attractive jobs out there. He doesn't see it as a tear down, but rather a matter of tuning up what we already have.

I would love to have him be our next head coach. I have warmed to Kelly ..... but Arians remains my favorite.

The whole "Kelly and Marone are suddenly neck and neck" thing is a joke. Seriously. Makes us sound like fools. And if I'm Kelly I'm slightly offended.

Get me to eat crow? What are you 15?

I feel like he is going to sign with the Eagles as well but I'm not about to start bashing the brass for giving it a shot with Kelly. Sorry I am not going insane and getting worked up over something that hasn't happened yet.

people are also saying that Eagles are making Chip watch hastily made cleveland tourism video until he signs with the Eagles.

that's how a front office should get deals done.

I said I would eat crow...lol.

They had this as the plan for at least a month based off of several reports. If they swing and miss it is a huge failure especially for a guy like Banner who likes to think he's the smartest guy in the world.

I've never liked Kelly all that much, and not upset we aren't getting HIm per se. However, zip find it troubling that we spent a month planning and backroom dealing with a guy that left us out to dry. That is not very encouraging at all.......and breaks of the same stuff we've seen here for years.

Shrug....I was hoping something had changed with the new guy.

We said the same thing about Heckert too. Sorry its the life of a Browns fan.
We accept not getting our guy because the guys at the top failed. That doesnt mean we cant blow some steam off while waiting (once again) to perhaps maybe still believe it will be differnent this time somehow.

That chip...I mean ship has sailed IMO. Time to pay the dinner bill and head to the bar. Maybe a "there's plenty of other fish in the sea" chat would be apropos.

The only way this blunder gets worse is if we compound it by hiring Doug freaking Marrone.

I could REALLY get on board with Bruce Arians and I'm at least lukewarm on Whisenhunt.
