I currently have a HTC Thunderbolt, bought on release day almost 2 years ago. Going to be looking at an upgrade in the next couple months and was looking for some suggestions on which phone to get. I tend to not keep up with all the latest phones when I'm not in the market for one. With all the android phones out there, I was looking to get a targeted list of phones to start researching.

Some initial searching, a few that came up are
Samsung galaxy
HTC Droid DNA
Motorola razor maxx HD

My carrier is Verizon. I'd also be willing to hold off on purchasing if a new release is on the horizon.

I've got the Razr Maxx and I love it. The battery life is great. I charge it every night, but it probably only really needs it every day and a half (depending on if I'm using it a ton).

It has some small quirks. For example, when I text somebody, sometimes a 2nd text that I'm sending will include the last word from the first text. But, you learn to live with it.

Overall, I'm very happy with it.

I got the Samsung Galaxy S3 about 2 months ago and absolutely love it. It's my 4th Android phone and is by far the best.

I've had the original Motorola Droid, Evo 4G, Evo Shift 4G, and now the Galaxy S3.

I think overall the new chips and increased memory have made them all much better than the older models. The OS and the apps haven't changed much as far as hardware requirements go, so the extra power is noticable from earlier models.

Do NOT get the HTC One X. It's a good camera and about nothing else.

I'd get the Razr if I was on Verizon.

I was planning on getting the Razr before deciding to swith to the iPhone. Seemed like a solid phone and I've owned nothing but Motorola's my whole life because I abuse them a lot and they put up with it. The major reason why I decided to go iPhone however was the off contract price. The Razr comes in at $700+ off contract.

I'm technically on my parents family plan still since they don't enforce an age limit. For me, it made a lot more sense to keep my $5 line fee a month + unlimited data and texting fees. It would have cost me more getting the new plan and contract price phone after just 6 months. So I paid the full price to remain grandfathered in.

Are you sticking with only an Android? I have a couple friends that have the Nokia Lumia 920 windows phone and they've all said it is the best phone they've had. I'm not sure if Verizon has this phone or not, but I figured I'd at least throw it out there.

I have the Samsung Infuse, and I love it. It's a few years old now and I am getting ready to upgrade to the Galaxy Note II.

I've never been able to get the swype down. But thankfully with the Infuse and soon on the Note the screen is large enough that the keyboard is big enough for me.

I never got into swype either until my Galaxy S3, and now I love swype. Maybe it's dependent on phone model or something, but I recall trying to use it on previous phones and it was wildly inaccurate, on my S3 it is very accurate. I was surprised when I swyped chikfila and it typed out Chick-Fil-A in the message.

Yeah, I have to decide if I want to dump unlimited data or buy at non-contract price. Thing is, given Verizon, they will probably rip unlimited data away from anyone eventually, it's just a matter of when.

thanks for the suggestions, I'll check some of these out.

Hi, you all shared really nice information here about the Android Phones, so if I would like to recommend to go for branded phones. I am using LG P500 which is very cheap now. Its very good powerful phone and available for just 9k now

the best android phone out right now is probably the nexus 4. $350 for an unlocked gsm phone. They are out of stock right now on google though. These type (gsm) of phones will work on at&t and tmobiles networks. Not verizon or sprint.

Couple this with 45 bucks a month from straightalk and you have unlimited calls, texts, and data. Data actually isn't unlimited as they say you can't stream stuff. But users report that 100mb a day and 2gig per month are the numbers to stick to, to not have any problems.

The galaxy s3 is quite similar, and everyone that I know who has one loves it.

I will be going the no contract route from here on out, but it suits me. You don't get roaming.

Bought my daughter an iphone 4 for Christmas, with a straighttalk sim. It uses the at&t network. (you can choose tmobile too, but not for an iphone)

You basically get the cheaper price for prepaid, with a quality phone.

I'll break even on the cost of the phone after one year. So i'll probably save $700 over 3 years.

Galaxy S3. Amazing. Got it for Christmas. Best phone I've ever had. Just came off of the EVO 4G - which until the S3 was the best phone I've ever had.

Really like the Android operating system and Android phones in general over the iPhone. And I own an iMac, iPad, and iPod. Just love the bigger screens and all the customization you get to do. And the S3, while big, is so slim and light. Screen is amazing.

Just an amazing phone.

lol...that's what i'm still using. I rooted it and am running a cm7 rom. My evo actually flies. If it weren't for sprints crappy coverage, and the monthly price, I would hold off until this thing dies.

When I get my new phone i'm going to flash this rom a guy is working on that turns it into just a media player.

I have the Nexus 4, it is a really nice phone. It runs so smoothly and I have no complaints that are really that bad. My only issue has been getting Google Wallet to work, but that is only on select phones having that problem. Not exactly a dealbreaker, especially if you don't use wallet, though I'm sure if you can get your hands on one, it might not have the issue, unless you get a Rev_11 version and even some of those do work.

I do use wallet. I thought you need that for every transaction on the playstore. I wonder if thats what the problem is with the stock shortage. If the hardware had some kind of flaw it would take time to fix it. Not to mention if they already had a ton made.

I can't believe it would be an android problem, or they could all be fixed with an ota.

Thanks for the info. I'm dying to get one. I'm not to keen about not being able to change a battery quickly if i want...and no sd card slot kinda blows, but it seems to be the current trend.

At this rate by the time I get a chance to get one they will be talking about the next one and i'll get cold feet....lol

Wallet as in the NFC chip in it. Not the wallet you use at the Play store. Battery and SD card does not concern me. I'd never fill it up anyways and as long as the battery last me the whole day, I'm happy. I don't need a battery to last me a day and a half as I would spend half a day without a phone.

gotcha....i haven't read of any problems with the nfc chips...but I haven't looked either.

16 gig is probably fine for me too, but I have tons of apps on my phone. I had an 8gig chip and filled it up quick. So I bought a 32gig...now its close to half full. With no music. Granted most of it is probably backups and roms.

It seems jellybean is better with the battery. With my EVO i was constantly having to charge it. I ended up picking up 2 extra batteries and a wall charger for the times when I was about to leave and the battery was mostly dead in the evening.

Not having that option makes me a little nervous.

Good question, I haven't actually seen one in person yet but It looks like it would barely fit.

Here's a pretty good size comparison chart: http://poland.elecdoll.com/Size-comparison-Note-Galaxy-2-Galaxy-Note-GS3-GS2-iPhone-4S/ (awww look at the cute little iphone on the end)

I have the GS3 which fits in my front pretty easily, so I think that the Note2 would judging from that.

The Note is still slim and light enough to put in your pocket, IMO.

While I have the S3, a buddy has the Note and I've gotten to play with it a little. It's really cool if you are willing to push the envelope to a size just short of a tablet. It's a great phone, IMO.

Really loved my EVO and thought HTC made a great phone. I'm putting Samsung up there too. Can't stop playing with my S3. Love it.
