Did anybody watch this last night? Even though they took historic liberties, I thought it was a good series. It's kind of sad that it's over.

I don't get HBO so I watch their stuff on DVD. Never seen Rome. Is it good? My favorite HBO series is Deadwood. Which one do you think is better?

I thought it was really good. The acting and scenery were much better than you'd think for a cable series. Like I said, they took a few historical liberties (I won't go into it or else I'll give the storylines away), but all of the characters and the main themes were real and based around the era of 60 -35 BC.
It would be difficult to compare this with Deadwood....but I would give Rome the nod and recommend you watch it. Not a kid's series, as it shows quite a bit of the excesses of life in the Roman empire.

Rome was a great show but they sure pushed the boundries into softcore porn a lot. But like you said, it definately didn't have the budget of your normal made for TV show. I rather enjoyed the show, but thats probably because I've always had a bit of a fascination with the time period.

They showed this in Oz, (interrupted it about 4 episodes in to show the whole series of ER before resuming about 2 months later ). Enjoyed it anywho. Not too adept with the factual side of it......i think Charlie is your man for that, he's a bit of a Italy freak. Never seen Deadwood, that the Western with McShane? And more to the point, when is Survivor on next?

If people complain about the slimy business of politics in the 21st C. they need to watch this series to really have their eyes opened.
The excesses of the few in Roman nobility were on display regularly and the hard life that the average citizen endured was shown but less frequently.
The series will be missed as the actors were generally quite interesting and their range of emotions were as big as the Coliseum itself.

I wanted to watch it when it first started being advertised, then missed the first few episodes and never real caught on after that.

Season 1 started off slowly, but finished strong. Season 2 has been amazing from start to finish. Watch both seasons and see why the series put HBO $30 million in the hole
