he Chicago Bears have selected Canadian Football League coach Marc Trestman as their new head coach according to Fox Sports’ Jimmy Johnson via Twitter.

The Bears have not made an official announcement yet.

Trestman, 56, has been head coach of the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes for the past five years, winning two Grey Cups in three championship games.

His NFL resume includes stints teaching the West Coast offense as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for the Browns, Cardinals, Dolphins, 49ers, Lions, Raiders and Vikings.

Cowboys hire Monte Kiffin for DC.

If he switches the. From 3-4 to Tampa 2.

We should see what they want for Demarcus Ware or go after Anthony Spencer if we are actually going to the 3-4.

they will keep Ware regardless IMO. he's too good to let go.

however, Anthony Spencer is a FA and a decent OLB. not great, but we need to get a few decent OLBers in here (Philips also a FA and ties to Chud/Norv from SD obviously).

I don't know how anyone could listen to Billick call the ATL/SEA game and give him even an interview.

The guy suggested kicking a FG with 40 seconds left in the game and trying an onside kick.

I think Billick makes a lot of sense there...seasoned team for a seasoned coach. Obviously Gruden is the home run but I'm going to be really pi$$ed if Gruden goes there with their QB drama effectively skipping over us. I think Gruden makes sense in San Diego and frankly, probably Billick too. I think the Chargers are going to regret not getting Andy Reid.

so, Pat Shurmur interviewed for the Carolina OC job as posted earlier on one of the threads. Also, interviewing for the OC job of the Jets:

Quote:

this one at least makes sense. Pat also getting a look for the NYJ-OC job:

The New York Jets added two high-profile candidates to their search for a new offensive coordinator to replace Tony Sparano on Monday. They interviewed former Baltimore Ravens coordinator Cam Cameron on Monday and are interested in former Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur

I really don't understand the teams who have had decent to better production from their QB in a certain system ...... like Carolina ....... wanting to switch to a system that would seem to run counter to their abilities.

True, but in the case of the Jets, I think Shurmur matches up well with their inneptness of the past season!

Maybe they won't change systems,, maybe Shurmur or whoever gets that job will have to follow the system that Chud put in.

I thought we'd be updating this thread more often, but it has been quiet. I assume teams are waiting on guys still coaching at this point.

I will add the leader in the clubhouse according to reports with a "?" where applicable below.

these remain open:
Eagles - Gus Bradley (DC - Seattle) ?
Cardinals - Mike McCoy (OC - Denver) or Ray Horton (DC - Arizona)?
Jaguars - Mike McCoy (OC - Denver) ? Mel Tucker (DC - JAX) ?
Chargers - Mike McCoy (OC - Denver) ?!
Bears - Darrell Bevell (OC - Seattle) / Marc Trestman (HC -Allouttes) ?

so far these are filled:
Chiefs - Andy Reid
Bills - Doug Marrone
Browns - Rob Chudzinski

And the reports of Marc Trestman to the Bears and Lovie Smith to the Chargers seem erroneous at this point due to them not having the job yet (and why else would the teams wait at this point?) though Trestman may be going for a 2nd interview now.

ESPN went from having a ticker saying Mike McCoy was taking the Jags job to now having an article saying he is taking the SD job. Seems he will have a job today?

Also, Andy Reid is keeping the 3-4 defense:

Quote:

Andy Reid said Monday that he will make the offensive play calls himself this season and the Kansas City Chiefs will continue to use a 3-4 defense.

Reid said he will call the offense for the Chiefs instead of new offensive coordinator Doug Pederson. He credited Pederson, who was the Eagles' quarterbacks coach for Reid in Philadelphia, for being "a sharp kid."

Quote:

he hired new defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, who was the Jets' linebackers' coach, with the 3-4 (three defensive linemen, four linebackers) in mind.

"There's been time invested in the 3-4 here," Reid said, according to the newspaper. "The 3-4 gives you some flexibility. I've run both (defensive systems). I've been involved in both so I understand how they were. The 4-3 is good if you have the right coaches in place and the team is invested in it. But this team here is invested in the 3-4, so let's continue to build it and get better at it."

Reid said Sutton "knows the 3-4 and he knows it well," according to the newspaper.

Reid also confirmed an ESPN report that former Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano was interviewed to become the Chiefs' offensive line coach.

Reid's calling the offense again, eh? Hopefully he's learned from last year.

McCoy will probably hire his own DC in SD, so Chud should be able to get Pagono in here fairly soon.

You think so? He had that defense on the up and up last year. Much more than Jauron. I would think McCoy wouldn't want to ruffle feathers on that side of the ball. Who would McCoy even have in mind to replace him?

I would guess he brings Richard Smith over to run the D scheme. The reason I thought we wouldnt get Pagano was because, I was fully expecting Arians to get the job and he would have kept Pagano.

Greg Robinson is another option he worked with along with anyone under the John Fox tree (Mike Nolan & Jack Del Rio already have DC jobs though)

One interesting name: Michael Trgovac

GB's current DL coach, but he was DC for the Panthers for years . Youngstown, OH guy who did well during Carolina's best runs and hasn't gotten a 2nd shot at a DC job for whatever reason.

That could well be the case. It does seem like many new head coaches are more inclined to keep some holdover coaches than in prior years.

but, we are talking about who Mike McCoy will hire for DC of the Chargers here. I don't really care if they have a bad defense

Mike McCoy's agent -- Bob Lamonte. Maybe he can hire Juan Castillo.

I think the Chargers keep Pagano and we move on to the next option (which might be Jauron).

I agree with that. But I will also say that the defense he traditionally runs is not the attacking style that was described in Chud's press conference.

The Chicago Bears have hired Marc Trestman as their head coach, the Chicago Tribune reported late Tuesday, citing an NFL source.

Trestman comes from the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, where he won two Grey Cup championships in five years as head coach. He replaces Lovie Smith, who was fired by the Bears last month.

Trestman, 57, has been an assistant coach for several NFL teams, including the Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals and Detroit Lions, but has never been an NFL head coach. Trestman was the offensive coordinator for the Raiders in 2002, when they reached Super Bowl XXXVII and quarterback Rich Gannon was named NFL MVP.

The Bears were believed to have narrowed their search to three candidates: Trestman, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and and Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. Trestman was at Halas Hall, the Bears' team headquarters, on Monday, a league source told ESPNChicago.com.

It will be interesting to see how Trestman's experience in the CFL translates to the NFL.

Good. I'm very happy we got Chud instead.

Anyway ... by my count, that leaves Arizona, Philly, and Jacksonville still looking for coaches, right?

well, they have noted WCO QB Jay Cutler and WCO WR Brandon Marshall. wait, no, neither of those guys has every played in the WCO nor does Cutler have the skillset to think that's his optimal system.

Poor Ray Horton. He totally deserves that Arizona job and they want to give the job to anybody but him. I'm hoping they hire someone who doesn't want him and he ends up on our staff somehow.

There were reports that Bradley did not do well in his interview with the Eagles and is now interviewing with Jacksonville. I would put Ken Whisenhunt and Jay Gruden at the top of their list.

Also, the Jaguars are said to want 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman. But his team is still playing.

Wouldn't he be quite a catch to land here as DC if he doesn't get a head coaching job! That being said, I'll be shocked if he doesn't get one, but I too am surprised that he hasn't gotten one yet.

His teams were the definition of inconsistent, and he had no idea what t do on the offensive side of the ball. In every other year over the last 6 years, his teams went .500 or worse.

He also got his franchise QB damn near killed over the past 2 or 3 years. Those guys are too hard to find, and too important to allow that to happen.
