The majority of the user submitted designs are hideous. I'm very glad they don't work for the NFL or Nike, for that matter. The copycat Patriot-esque Brownie logo is so incredibly bad. If folks want the Brownie, then stick with the one that is familiar. There are just some things that can't look "bada$$" no matter how hard you try and a little elf is one of them!

Another thing I don't understand is this obsession with piping. I just don't get it. Piping belongs on cakes, not football jerseys.

And the "B" logo thing is atrocious, as well. It seemed jarring to see that design on the chest of the jerseys. I can see it being a shoulder patch, or even one on the hip of the pants, but good lord, if we are looking to update, let's not feature a logo that looks like it crept out of the early part of 2002.

I do like the color brown being incorporated more into the designs and the orange pants remind me of the Kardiac Kids, so I can get with that. As for the orange and it's tint, I agree that it needs to be darkened back to the original color instead of the flourescent abomination it has become. I would appreciate the helmet getting a tad darker, and any touches to the uni to incorporate that darker orange.

The PD just put up part 2 of fan uniform designs.

I actually kinda like the first set.

The 3rd set with the brown-on-brown (minus the numbers on the helmet) is BAD ASS! Love that one.

I agree with everything that you said. Though I do like the pants from the submission with the "B" logo on the chest. Not so much a fan of that jersey.

Reminds me of when I went to Maryland, the school newspaper was looking for a new logo and held a contest to try to make the turtle look ferocious... the one they ended up with wasn't bad but some of the entries were pretty funny.

Pretty much everything else I agree with.

I'm a huge fan of this away set.

Though I don't like how the thing orange line looks on the home set.

I'd also add orange pants. I'm big on the helmet and pants matching.

Not a big fan of random patches. And while the logo is neat, I don't think it fits on the jersey.

To which one would you add orange pants?

I don't like the elf patch, I don't think it's necessary and I don't think it does anything for the uniform.. that elf is not now, nor has it ever been, anything associated with the Cleveland Browns..

I'm curious what the back of the Brown jersey looks like.. would the brown go all the way to the collar or would the white from the shoulder pads continue down the back just far enough that the letters of the names would be in brown...

Orange White Orange is my fav combo.

I do like Orange Brown Orange in certain situations. And also if they are the right shade/tint.

There is nothing about those uniforms in that link that I like the least bit (excluding the helmet).
My 1st thought when I saw them was eww.

I don't like them much either. Those stripes down the side look nice until your jersey gets pulled out and they don't line up perfectly anymore.

I would not be surprised if our new uniforms feature a lot more orange. You have to remember, JH is a big Volunteer fan. I just hope he uses a darker shade of orange!

I like the elf logo at the bottom of that one.

The brown uni is pretty fugly to me, the white one is just "ok".

I am sure the professionals will figure something out that is pretty good.

I think it stinks that they can't get this completed by this upcoming season.

Why would they need one whole year to do this?

I know I could pick a home, away and alternate jersey combo in a day....heck, maybe I'd extend it up to a week to really research the history, interview some players and then talk to you guys (and gals).

But one whole year?

My bet, one year from now we'll see one or two minor changes to the home and away uni's (changes that your average NFL fan wouldn't notice). And our new alternate will be just a color combination change that won't really drive new sales of anything (like a weird Brown/Orange stripped jersey like those Steelers prison ones - not saying I want those....just ours will be very similar to our standard ones).

Oh well. 12 months should pass fast.

I still like the body length stripes. I think it can work.

The horizontal ones? Not a fan.

I think a large group of people are going to be upset at first.

Look at the Seahawks new units this year. Originally viewed as ridiculous by most. They don't seem that bad now (maybe winning has something to do with it?)

I think it would be highly ironic if we come out and play well this year, and then switch unis and regress a bit.

I also don't get the year wait. Seems excessive. There's 8 months till the first game.

I like the vertical stripes that run the length of the body. It gives a very streamlined, very fast look.

Exactly.

So, 12 months from now we'll get to preview the changes that we'll see 20 months from now. I think my interest in this thread just went from high to crazy low. Wake me up this time next year.

Large Version

Original Concept

Changes:

Made pants Orange (I tried to get it as dark as possible)
The pants being Orange eliminates the Orange "piping on the pants" basically it's our old orange pants.

Removed patch.

Removed piping that extended over shoulders

Removed white strip on side

Again, I like the Away set A LOT more than the Home. The Orange White Orange combo from head to toe being my favorite, plus Brown jerseys with White/Orange accents, theres REALLY not much you can do that doesnt look too forced...

I'm excited to see what they come up with.

Even though I think it's a ridiculous wait time.

Maybe they think we'll be average this year, and then can debut the uniforms when we're then above average in a year...

Or maybe they just wanna wait till we get a shiny new QB to wear the jersey...

I don't like that as well as I thought I would.

I would like the white inlay on the stripe on the sides of the jersey to be white, the same as the pants.

I would even do away with the orange piping on the brown uniform, It really doesn't do much except make the uniform look broken up.

I wonder how the white uniform would look with orange shoulders? (like the white is on the brown jersey)

Changes

I like the Home a lot more now.

Still iffy on the Away, I always get too caught up in the Home and Away being a "set" and alternating the dark and white, but sometimes it doesn't work.

And then you add another color (orange)

And this is why people get paid a lot of money to do this...

I like the home uniform a lot. (Obviously the colors need to be more uniform)

I think that I like the road uniform with white pants. (or maybe a medium gray color)

I just hope they don't take the "Leave the helmet alone" thing too literal. It really needs to be darkened a bit.

And any Orange on the uniform should match it.

Along with a darker Brown.

Well, figure out when the uniforms would need to be ready and work backwards taking out production, approvals, etc and you really don't have that much time to make a decision.. and since the NFL won't let you change uniforms every year like college, the decision they make needs to be well thought out because we will have to live with it for a while....

Ok, I'm back with some changes. This is one of the uniforms I'm thinking on sending into Uni Watch. I need to pick one white-jersey uniform and wanted to see what everyone here likes better: white pants or orange pants. I usually like the orange-white-orange combo, but I think I like the white pants better here. The orange uniform would be an alternate used for special occasions/games.

Anyway, let me know what you think! I'm also working on another uniform idea, but it's not ready yet.

Edit: I also want to make the orange darker, but didn't have the time to go back and do all the shading, haha.

Edit 2: Would you like it without the argyl better? Now with the stripes down the side that people seem to like.

I like the idea of adding a 3rd color. I also like OSU's uniform pants, and I think that the scheme would translate nicely to the Browns colors.

Hey Photoshoppers, I have a favor to ask of you.

Could you take these Browns uniforms with the stripes on the underlayer of the jersey

Remove the outside white stripes and put an orange-white-orange stripe across the jerseys horizontally across the jersey like these Northwestern uniforms

I appreciate all efforts!

OK... True Confession time here:

I'm old. I'm older than dirt and oxygen. I'm old enough to have actually seen (and remember) watching Jim Brown play against the Stoolz. As in "1964 kind of old."

Having said that, I'm not so old that I can't still live with a little change in my life.

Many of you already know that I work in a "Living Sonic Museum." For those of you noobs who are still getting to know us.... I play Music. In a Symphony Orchestra. (Yes... for a paycheck, you doofus!) Most of what I play is more than 100 years old. You might think that I'm, by nature, tied inviolably to The Past.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Truth: I play Beethoven, Bach and Brahms... but also Truth: I've also played stuff by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Police... and even Nine-Inch Nails. (...on my own time, mind you-) I actually throw down my own stuff which has never before been hard.... so trust me when I tell you: I'm not a slave to The Past.

As such, I have a deep reverence for the great Art Works of The Past.... but I maintain a healthy enthusiasm for the innovations of The Future. (Yes... there are STILL people writing great stuff today....)

Having said that, I'll also say this: I won't stand in the way of "a new Browns look".

An updating of our classic look won't be met with opposition by me... but I have a couple caveats:

1. I want the "New Browns Look" to propel us into the future, while giving a nod to Our Storied Past. Part of the fans' victory (against the NFL) in retaining the colors, history and tradition of the Browns must be honored, as we chart Our New Look, going forward.

2. Any departure from Our Classic look should also remind even the casual observer what "Our Classic Look"used to look like.

_______________________

Metallic, darker orange helmets? I'm totally down with that.

NO HELMET LOGO! A must. No Negotiation. No elf, no nothing. Some things are sacrosanct, you know? The "modern era" MUST give props to the era that spawned it, yo-

Head-to-toe "all-brown "Away Unis? With a broad orange stripe (bordered with thinner white stripes) running down the sides? I'm all for it.

Piping doesn't bother me in the least..

All I ask is this: Update the tam's look all you want. Just don't field a team that makes me ask: "Who TF ARE these guys?"

WHEN (not "if") the Browns win the Super Bowl, I want them to- on some level- look like the team that beat down Baltimore, 27-0. That will make my fandom complete.

After that, they can go to the hideous 'zebra-stripe' look that the Stooz trotted out this season. ....

Bottom Line: I'm down with any "visuals," as long as they translate to results on the field. "Orange & Brown on a field of Green is all I'll ever need.

If a simple uniform change is all it takes to turn this team from a perennial to a perennial winner, then, DAMN.... go ahead and change their Traditional Colors to pink & purple, for all I care..

Bottom Line: THIS TEAM HAS MY UNDYING SUPPORT. I'll follow the as long as there's hope that "better days are ahead." Darken/lighten the uni colors.... I won't care a bit.

What I DO care about is this:

"When My Team takes the field, what are my chances of seeing a victory?"

Aside from that... all other issues are nothing more than distractions.

I would actually prefer to NOT have the numbers on the helmet. (working with what I got)

I went back and forth on the pants, I'm not too big on the Grey/Silver ones, just made them cause YTown kept whining about it

I want Brownie the Elf gloves PRONTO.

1933..... I read somewhere that the outlandish stripes (Redskins also had those striped socks) were so that people at home on black and white TV's could tell one team from the other.....if that is true or not I don't know since I think the first televised game was 1939.

I think the Seattle seahawks dark blue uniforms would look sweet as browns uniforms if you changed the Blue to Brown and the Green to orange. I would do it but I don't have any photo editing software anymore, and quite frankly I have never been good aat shading so I might as well do it in crayon lol.
