Not a shocker, but Margus Hunt is beasting at the combine. The guy was a Olympic athlete.
6'8 38 reps and ran a 4.65 forty

He had a really good showing at his bowl game where he flashes his potential for once. He'd be a interesting project.

Sure, but are you willing to invest a Top 75 pick on a project? In this draft class, where some 2nd/3rd round talent will be available throughout the 4th, I might start to think about him at the top of the 5th round and even there I think I will like a dozen other guys better. I hope Lombardi has learned his size-speed lesson (doubt it after falling for it tme and again) and looks at the tape too, because he plays much slower than in pants. Compared to a guy like Ansah, who is "all out" on every snap and much more instinctive? Not even close

I would definetly consider him in the 4th. Odds are if you slip into the 4th you have some significant flaws in your game already.

I don't think he's going to make it to the third day. not after this display of athleticism and strength. 6'8", someone will hope they can turn him into JJ Watt in the 2nd or 3rd. He doesn't have Watt's intensity, though. Huge difference. Still, I'd be very surprised if he makes it to the 4th.

I disagree. At the top of the 4th, that's where the value on low value positions is at...you can get a top 5 TE or OG there who does not have many flaws, just dropping because of the position they play and teams adressing hte high value positions with their top picks.
Best case, Hunt needs 2-3 years to become a starter and then you have him for 1 more season before you either lose him in FA or have to dish out millions based on 1 good season, bad value all around. Let someone else dream big and go through the delusion

Exactly...
If Lombardi takes him at the top of the 3rd, we know for sure that he hasn't "learned his lesson".
Joe Kruger has much better tape and can be picked later. Of course, he hasn't the freak-ceiling, that Hunt will never reach anyways. It's an incredibly stupid way of thinking since you have to develop a guy like Hunt and hope he some day "understands" football as good as a guy like Kruger. The thinking is that: if he "gets it" with that athleticism, he will become an AllPro, totally disregarding that he didn't "get it" for years in College, playing pretty uninspired. Missing the forest for the trees...

same here. I also completely agree with your QB rankings. I'd have Scott ahead of Jones and I haven't seen enough of the LaTech kid, but I think Geno is the best of the bunch (just not worth #6), Bray has all the tools, and EJ Manuel is going to be a steal.
Note: the major knock on EJ is that good defenses would trick him into throwing to the wrong spot. Jimbo put alot on his shoulders to make reads (according to him at least) and EJ didn't always seem to make the right one. But, I like EJ the best for value in this draft (trade up to late 2nd or our 3rd rounder).

I like Bray. If we are willing to draft a QB, Bray in the 3rd makes some sense.
I think that is right about where he will land....but "right about" also includes late 2nd round, so he may be out of reach unless we find a way back in to the second round.

I don't think Bray makes it out of the first 10 picks of the 2nd round. I really think he'll actually go in the 1st round, but there's a chance he falls.
That's why I like EJ Manuel better as a value pick. It won't cost us a ton to get up to the late 2nd (where I think he'll land and I have him about equal to Bray) whereas Bray will be long gone (I think).

interesting thing on the RBs. we need a third RB and I think we could very well draft one. I really like Le'Veon Bell (and Norv/Chud have liked to have a go-to power guy in past places). I have seen him all over the map on mock drafts though. Any chance he falls to the 4th or am I just dreaming at that point?

Ogbonnaya is a restricted free agent. If we could bring him back that would be great.

depends what Norv/Chud want for our offense. Oggie-B is a pure 3rd down RB. Useful, but we already have Trent who can catch and Hardesty isn't useless there either.

I'd say that's totally possible, but he could go on day 2. We should easily get a really good no3 RB on day 3, good value galore
As for Margus Hunt, he pretty much just said on the telecast that football was his last shot to stay at SMU. Stay the hell away

Mingo looked like a good OLB in the 34 today at the combine. He's smooth but also wasnt facing a 300+ lb tackle! Not a 43 end by any means.
My darkhorse to look for at OLB in later rounds, Trevardo Williams. Not sure where he will fall.

Too bad he's your classic undesized run and chase 4-3 OLB. See why it was stupid to switch to the 3-4? You can find players like Sio Moore or T.Williams in the 3rd to 5th round range, guys who can start day 1 as your weakside OLB in the 4-3. Good luck finding a mid round 3-4 OLB starter, even 1st rounders are projects and need a year of transition.
As for Mingo, he's a one trick speed pony like J.Jones, but has a better motor. He's extremely raw and needs a lot of teaching and developing but I can see him become a good one, but it will take time, so I'm not sure I'd invest a top 15-20 or even top 50 pick on a conversion project like him. Classic boom/bust, high ceiling, bust floor, although his floor is higher than Jones' because of his all out hustle

he may have to play 4-3 LB in the pros, but he was a highly productive DE the last two years at uconn. He's way too small at 233# to do that in the pros and may have to put on 15-20 pounds to play olb. Only guy i can think of that recently played olb at 240 is james harrison, and I think he's 6' flat. Williams is 6'2".

Mingo admitted he didn't try this year. His S&C coach said he didn't try.
How does he have a better motor than Jones?

Teo just ran a 4.81,
The guy I really wanted in this draft, Tavon Austin, really made himself some money. I was hoping he would be there in the 3rd, now I think he goes late 1st early 2nd. I wanted him just because I don't think once Benjamin lines up in slot I don't think he will stay healthy.

You know I really hate the way people go after these kids when they infact give an honest answer. When a team faces an Alabama or Ohio st in football, you are going to get their absolute best. When you play Arkansas pine bluff guess what your effort isnt going to be as great. If someone says it is, they are lieing.

I'd give him a shot in the 3rd or 4th round. Worst case scenario, you have a standout special teams player. Best case scenario: He uses his freakish numbers (6'8, 275, 4.6 40 yard dash, 34 in vertical, and 38 reps of 225) to terrorize other teams. I wouldn't mind seeing if we can develop him - especially if he is there later in the draft.
I think that's a lot more than we got out of our previous 3rd rounders.

As always, good stuff Steve
Just a small correction: Collins was top 100 on nfldraftscout for weeks now, so well before his combine showing. I watched some tape on him, not much though, because I wanted to like him as a mid round sleeper but wasn't impressed. He takes a lot of bad steps and his overall football awareness was rather bad....I'll watch some more though...I watched his game vs Nebraska:
http://www.youtube.com/v/Pgo4xXFTA84
He's a "jump tackler", for some reason he likes to jump into tackles, horrible technique and at the NFL level a shoulder/neck injury waiting to happen. He has some J.Jones to his game...running around blocks, not very physical, little pass rush moves, just speed and athleticism...unblocked, his athleticism is evident and a menace but I just don't see a natural football player
