Roller Coaster Tycoon? Where you'd build you own intense ride intentionally knowing it would crash, set fire, and burn? I used to get down on that!

Did you ever play the sequel, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island? Criminally underrated game, probably because the graphics make it look like a game for young children, though the game play thoroughly indicates otherwise.

Some of my old favorites from NES/Genesis/SNES era:

The classics: Super Mario Bros 1 and 3, Zelda 1, 2, and Link to the Past, Sonic

Sports: Baseball Stars, Ice Hockey, Punchout, NBA Jam, Madden '92

Racing: RC Pro Am, Excitebike, Road Rash, F-Zero

RPG: Final Fantasy 1, 4, and 6 (released as 1, 2, and 3 in the U.S.), Chrono Trigger

others.. ToeJam & Earl and Street Fighter 2

Moving a little out of that time period but still, gotta mention these games: GoldenEye, Halo, and Starcraft: Brood War

Did any of you ever play "David Robinson's Supreme Court Basketball" for Sega Genesis? It was the first Sega game I had.

Essentially, all you had to do was have "Air Allnite" and you'd hit pretty much every single 3 pointer.

I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

My favorite baseball NES was Little League World Series . I thought it was just a good sound fundamental game of baseball. I remember playing my Dad every night after dinner, and the loser would take up dish duty.

The day my buddy and I (2 player mode) beat Contra on the Nintendo was one of the greatest days of my young life.

I still can't decide if on Contra it was better to have the "Spread" gun or "Laser" gun. Great game.

To this day, I can't land the fighter jet on Top Gun. Mission #1. Never could wrap my head around "goofy foot" mode on Skate or Die.

Always was a fan of the game Jackal and Bionic Commando.

My first system was an Atari 2600. I grew up playing Asteroids, Pitfall, Dig-Dug, Q-bert and River Raid to name a few. Good times

Spread gun, no doubt.

Two players with spread guns was how we did it. You could completely cover the screen with gun fire. The laser, while nasty, just couldn't keep all the baddies at bay as easily.

For being almost 25 years old, this game actually holds up really well.

Also, if people really have the itch to play retro games, going the emulator route is not too bad. It's cheaper, and won't take up any space next to all your physical consoles. The controllers for the computer are dirt cheap, amazon even sells NES/SNES usb controllers.

I actually got into Super Mario World some months ago. I still found the game enjoyable. The levels look great for a 2nd gen Nintendo system, and the game wasn't super hard.

I did this when I was in college - had TONs of games! Absolutely loved having an emulator... I do a lot of my NES games on my Wii now...
