No clue without knowing how many teams in your league. If its a 14 team league then you did a mighty fine job.

Yea that would help huh? Sorry, it is a 10 team league and the scoring system is standard roto. I listed the scoring columns above. I don't think I did bad for my first baseball draft in probably 4 years. But I definately could have done better I think.

I'm definately weak in the saves department. Looks like Armando Benitez will be the closer for the Giants and did not get drafted. Should I pick him up and drop a starting pitcher? I don't think Papelbon and Dempster are gonna get-r-done in the saves department.

Scoring system:

Hitting: Batting Average, HRs, RBIs, Steals
Pitching: ERA, Saves, Wins, WHIP

Roster:

C Kenji Johjima (C SEA) Decent
C Jason Varitek (C BOS) Old, injury prone, and in Decline, but in a good lineup, so he could produce well.
1B Adam A. LaRoche (1B PIT) I like this pick, very nice
2B Josh Barfield (2B CLE) good speed, and a good pick
3B Garrett Atkins (3B COL) probably over rated, but his numbers were awsome last year
SS Stephen O. Drew (SS ARI) maybe next year, he is still too green for my tastes
OF Alfonso Soriano (LF CHC) Wont ever top last years numbers, but a great player in a better lineup than last year.
OF Jason Bay (LF PIT) Doesn't matter where you drafted him, it was a great value.
OF Jermaine Dye (RF CHW) probably can't top last year, but for where you probably got him, nice value here
OF Delmon Young (RF TB) .260 20Hr 20SB, will be a nice year fo rhim
OF Carlos Quentin (RF ARI) Has a partially torn labrum he will try to play through...not good
U Travis Hafner (DH CLE) If he played 2st base he would be a 1st round pick.
U Conor Jackson (1B ARI)

P Dontrelle Willis (SP FLA) Over - rated
P Jonathan Papelbon (RP BOS) 40 saves here you come
P Jeremy Bonderman (SP DET) Cy young, here you come!
P Kevin Millwood (SP TEX) OUCH, not very good, in a hitter park, play him on the road only
P Derek Lowe (SP LA) I'll pass
P Ryan Dempster (RP CHC) This guys stinks up the joint and then shuts em down. too inconsistent but if Kerry wood doesn't take his job he will be a good value
P Joe Blanton (SP OAK) Very undrated
P Jon Garland (SP CHW) Very over rated
P Clay Hensley (SP SD) solid bullpen help

Over for a ten team league I think you can do better for pitchers on the waiver wire. I just can't beleive all you got was Steven drew in 10 team league.

I am not a fan of 8-10 team leagues, every team looks like an all star squad.

You have a decent team but I predict a 4th place finish for you my freind.

Love your hitting Sans Drew but your pitching is suspect sans BonderMASH.

I went with Drew on a hope from projections. A run of 5 shortstops happened in between my picks and I was hoping to get Furcal, then bam... he and 4 others went off the board before my selection. This is why I picked him:

From CBS:

"Diamondbacks SS Stephen Drew has impressed manager Bob Melvin in the leadoff spot, and although a handful of players may be used there from time to time, including CF Chris Young, LF Eric Byrnes and 2B Orlando Hudson, Drew could hit there a lot after not being viewed as a potential candidate early in spring by Melvin. "The only thing I've found is he can acclimate to any spot in the order," Melvin said. "Originally, I was a little apprehensive about using him in the leadoff spot, but I've come to grips that he can be a horse there as well."
(Updated 03/25/2007).
FANTASY ANALYSIS
Drew is hitting .333 with eight runs, four doubles, one homer, six RBI and two stolen bases in 15 spring games. He is already viewed as one of the best young shortstops in the game, but the move to the leadoff spot only increases his Fantasy value because he will be in line for more at-bats. He is a solid Fantasy addition to any owner's roster; look for him to be taken in the middle rounds -- if not higher in some formats."

They are projecting him for 18 HRs, 84 RBI, 7 steals and a 294 average. I hope that happens!

If he has that stat line, you will be in very good shape.

Like I said your offense is nice. But your pitching needs work.

God thing for you, that can be done VERY easily during the season.

Keep your eye out for bust out pitchers and grab them.

Thanks, hey did you see my question above about Benitez? Looks like he's going to be the closer for San Fran... think I should gamble on picking him up? I think I'm going to need more saves.

Ya, I would drop Quentin or one of your pitchers for him.

Is this a head to head league or a roto?

H2H stay put

Roto, try to pick up Benitez, and Jorge Julio

drop whoever either doesn't close or is a bust.

Julio and Benitez are available. Pretty much every other closer is taken. You think I should pick up both of them or just one of the two?

Ya I would grab both then, at worst they will blow a few saves and you will drop them. At best they will close the whole season and get 25-30 saves each.

Just remember, in a roto league 25 saves is just as good if not better than 25 home runs.

Every category winner gets 10 points or 12 or 14 depending on league size. Plus when your starters aren't pitching you can stick them in there for saves.

Then you trade em when they are looking there best for some home runs.

Hey BPG, I drafted my 2nd and last team this year, this time it is a head to head league, here are the scoring rules:

Scoring for Batting Categories
1B - Singles 1 point
2B - Doubles 2 points
3B - Triples 3 points
BB - Walks (Batters) 1 point
HR - Home Runs 4 points
R - Runs 1 point
RBI - Runs Batted In 1 point
SB - Stolen Bases 2 points

Scoring for Pitching Categories
BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -0.5 points
CG - Complete Games 5 points
ER - Earned Runs -1 point
HA - Hits Allowed -0.5 points
INN - Innings 2 points
K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point
S - Saves 10 points
W - Wins 10 points

And my team looks like this:

CC Jorge Posada (C NYY)
1B Adam A. LaRoche (1B PIT)
2B Rickie Weeks (2B MIL)
3B Miguel M. Cabrera (3B FLA)
SS Jimmy Rollins (SS PHI)
OF Alfonso Soriano (LF CHC)
OF Carlos N. Lee (LF HOU)
OF Torii Hunter (CF MIN)
UU Jim Thome (DH CHW)
SP Jeremy Bonderman (SP DET)
SP Bobby Jenks (RP CHW)
SP Jason Schmidt (SP LA)
SP J.J. Putz (RP SEA)
SP Chien-Ming (SP NYY)
SP Mike Mussina (SP NYY)
SP Joe Blanton (SP OAK)

Bench:

RS Todd Helton (1B COL)
RS Coco Crisp (CF BOS)
RS Jim Edmonds (CF STL)
RS Jake Westbrook (SP CLE)
RS John Patterson (SP WAS)
RS Ryan Dempster (RP CHC)

I think I did pretty well with this one, what do ya think?

I am sorry man, but you really messed up in the second round in this draft. Grady Sizemore is the most valuable player in the game with these scoring categories.

So some of you are in leagues that reward hits, singles, and batting average? Separately? Hmm. If you're looking to create a league that rewards the most important attributes of the best players, you probably shouldn't assign similar value to singles and homers. Strikeouts for hitters and walks for pitchers are reasonable anti-streaming measures. But you're also using innings pitched? Maybe it makes sense as a deterrent to owners who might otherwise just load up on relief pitchers. Don't wins and Ks already do that, though? I'm just not comfortable with league settings that make Miguel Batista (206.1 IP, 8 L, 3 CG in 2006) quite so valuable. Still, I'm familiar with 10x10 and 12x12 leagues with the above categories. They make detainees in secret prisons play them, I hear.

I'm all about winning leagues, though, whatever the settings. The most important point to make is that you shouldn't use standard player ranks for a custom league. Different settings change things substantially. For example, in a league that used the standard categories plus hits, doubles, and triples – and there are probably a bunch of you in such leagues – Grady Sizemore would have been more valuable than Albert Pujols last season. Don't believe me? Here are the numbers:

PLAYER H R 2B 3B HR RBI SB AVG
Grady Sizemore 190 134 53 11 28 76 22 .290
Albert Pujols 177 119 33 1 49 137 7 .331

Grady has him in five categories, and he mauled Albert in three of them: doubles, triples, and steals. Hanley Ramirez would've been fairly close to Pujols, too. He finished the year with 185 hits, 46 doubles, 11 triples, 51 steals, and he tied Albert in runs. If you're drafting in a custom league, it's imperative that you understand how player value is affected. Default ranks don't hold.

Besides that one blunder. I absolutely love this team, great job, but it may be time to step up your competetion...LOL

Todd Helton on the bench??

All the talks I hav ebeen hearing are about how he Muscled up in the offseason and will not steal bases this year, he is tired of the rumors he lost his power strok.

He is gonna be hella value.

Get one more closer, and I like this team!

A- work my freind.

Seizmore and Beltran went one and two right before my first pick so I never had the opportunity to draft him. But when Soriano and Cabrera were left dangling... I jumped on them.

Ahhh, your league mates are smarter than I suspected.

Excellent work in that case.

but Dempster is so sketchy, try and get another closer.

Yea I was bumbed when Sizemore went off the board but Soriano and Cabrerra was a pretty darn sweet consolation prize. My hitting should be dominant in this league... quick question, what do you think of Richie Weeks at 2nd? I got him in round 12 so I thought it was good value there..

Weeks has all the potential to be a stud.

however, he now can be considered injury prone, being that he has gotten injured the past two seasons.

I passed on him for the most part, and targeted guys like Howie Kendrick, and Ian Kinselr even later...that is, if I couldn't get utley.

If he stays healthy great value, but can he??

This is a tough question.

I have drafted Brorowski in one league, so I assume it will be borowski.

Last year I drafted Fernado cabrera in my keeper league who I dropped, but I am going to keep an eye on him again this year.

They say he is our closer of the future, so keep an eye on him, but No, I do not know for sure.
