I hope that meteor had a warrant to crash into those properties...

Maybe the Myan calendar was finished on a second rock or maybe there was a missing footnote: "+ or - 60 days"

I know a big one passes within about 17,000 miles later today.

Makes one consider what a larger impact would cause. ::shudder:: Amazing stuff.

Prayers to those affected by this event.

That scientist on the right in that video looks like the spawn of satan or something. His eyes are as black as night. Either that or he is tripping something fierce, lol.

A woman at CNN asked Bill Nye if this asteroid that is passing by is the result of global warming... I will give Bill Nye credit for trying to answer the question without calling her an idiot.

There's always one.

I'm sorry, no need to roll your eyes and discredit my statement. If that thing did not blow up well above the ground you would have a lot more people injured than 1000 and itm would have been a total different story.

Technically, it hit Russia.

Take a look at the hole in the ice where it didn't make impact.

Ok, I will digress, the meteor did not hit Russia. The sonic boom and meteorites did hit Russia, so technically, I was incorrect. Although I do take exception to the article title, someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. A meteor is just a hunk of rock and ice until it makes it to the earths surface, then it becomes a meteorite.

So in this, Tunguska-like event, meteorite(s) hit Russia, unless of course there was only one fragment of the comet that made it to the surface. Usually not a big stickler over semantics, just feel the title is misleading

To what? "Meteor enters atmosphere, breaks into meteorites, flys over Russia, explodes in sonic boom, hundreds injured, some pieces fall to earth" ????

No worries, this event is extremely curious though. The last time (I believe) you had an air burst from a meteor like this was 1908-ish over Tunguska, Siberia. Also this meteor event happens hours before the closest asteroid flyby in recorded history, which will be happening today at 2:35pm eastern

Tunguska is debatable. There is evidence that there is an impact crater in lake Checko which is in the Tunguska region. Scientists suggest that a decent sized piece of it impacted at the lake site

There was an X-files episode titled "Tunguska". Mulder was imprisoned in a gulag. That's all I remember about it.

That ice is 16 inches thick up there...a couple of feet away and you are good. If not, a cracking sound will give you ample warning being one of the first on the scene.

That was the coolest thing I've ever seen. I've decided that I never want to see one of those up close.

The thing to watch for now is the unusual disease that will start in that area.

It kind of looked like the arrival of the Terminator.

If some naked guy shows up at a bar wanting your clothes, boots, and motorcycle, it's probably best not to snuff out your cigar on his chest.

I think he was working on the calendar when he suddenly has an epiphany and said "Damn, I won't be alive by this date, why am I still making this damn calendar?".

+1

I suppose I could start digging through the net, but I'm lazy. Were there any fatalities by this meteorite hit? I heard there were a ton of injuries from breaking glass.

That's the best explanation I have seen yet.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

Amazing. Especially when everyone knows Al Gore invented the asteroid.

Hemorrhoid, not asteroid.
