I never count the Steelers out. They always seem to be able to reload quickly.

I hope their ship is sinking ...

Not me.

I want them strong when we beat them.
I want the Ravens strong when we beat them.
I want the Bengals strong when we beat them.

I want the AFCN to be the fiercest division in the NFL... always....

Because if you can beat your division rivals, you can beat ANYONE...

..and THAT'S what wins Super Bowl Rings.

/out.

The Steelers and Ravens have won how many Super Bowls now with us winning 4-5 games a year?

All three of them could go 2-14 for all I care. You can't win the SB without making the playoffs. And it's easier to do that when the other teams aren't as good.

He'll the Raiders went 6-0 in the division a couple years ago... Finished 8-8. So it ,rant absolutely nothing.

Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Just be glad you don't have to live with them

I Do.

I married a gal who came from a Steelers Family.

Interestingly, My Pops-In-Law started up with the Steelers in protest- when Art Modell fired Paul Brown.

How's that for irony... and a "plot twist?"

My Own Pops took his loyalties to Cincy when Paul Brown launched his "start-up" there.

I couldn't do it. I was a Browns fan as a little kid- and I'll die a Browns fan as an old man.

Only one thing could make me switch allegiances: If 1995 ever comes around again. Then... I'm done, too. There's only so much a person can be asked to take, you know?

I love My Girl (Married 29 years, this last Nov.)
I love my Pops-In-Law (and respect his choice, considering how I feel about Modell)
I loved My Pops every day he was alive... and to this day.

Sometimes, things are more complex than one can see "at face value"... know what I mean?

Thats honestly the same reason I am a Steeler fan....I live 100 miles from Cleveland, and 100 miles from Pitt....about half my family are Browns...and half Steelers.......the only reason I am a Steeler fan is that I grew up in the 70's...My grandma loved Terry Bradshaw and they were winning the Super Bowl every year......So right as my love of football was beginning...it was an easy bandwagon to jump onto....and I just never jumped off.

I kind of started following the 49ers in the 80's because my great uncle lives in San Jose, and has had season tickets for like 50 years now...even though he is to sick to ever go to a game anymore...he won't give up his tickets..he just gives them to others. He took me to my first ever pro game...Raiders vs 49ers in Candlestick the year after they won their first Super Bowl....

So I started in with the Steelers are my AFC team..and the 49ers were my NFC...but it didnt stick.....I have family in Spokane Washington...they got me following the Seahawks for a few years...but didn't stick.....I loved...loved...loved Walter Payton and that Bear defense in 85.....but it didn't stick.

Through my early teens...I tried to follow another team...but my heart always went back to the Steelers....and I learned I simply can't and won't put on another team colors...

I am hoping to end up in that Kevin Costner. Browns movie....but I really can't imagine putting on other colors.

Also look for me this year in the movie "Old Fashioned" as Mike the Security Guard

I became a Browns fan in 1976. My mother and two sisters were Steelers fans and we had close relatives that were Steeler fans as well. Once I married, and raised children, the children became Steeler fans, and our oldest daughter married one, so it's become Steeler fans in the family part deuce. The turnpike rivalry games are my favorites, and I'm sure it is theirs as well. As for switch allegiances, it would be easy to do that if 95 ever came around again, but I couldn't do it the last time. I didn't watch one NFL game while they were gone. I couldn't fathom switching after being a fan year after year for decades, it's like you have too much invested, and have been through so much with them. I'd just be done with the NFL all together if it ever were to happen again.

You are aces in my book, Hack. Don't like the Pits but you seem fairly sane. So you know, and not like it matters in the big scheme, I read you and consider. Beats some of our posters here on the board IMO.

Hmm why would you give any Brown's fan a have time about not respecting anything related to the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Just by doing that, IMO, means you yourself shouldn't be respected. Heh, let the man hate the Steelers. Any true Brown fan will likely fall right into the same shoe. Sounds almost an oxymoron to give him a hard time about it, heh...

PITTSBURGH SUCKS, AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE... if you want to go root and go crown them, there is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan forum I am sure on THEIR site!

My Dad was from Cleveland and Mom was from Pittsburgh, Mom became a Browns' fan over the years. But her family back in Pittsburgh were big-time Steelers fans. When I was a kid, 60's - early 70's, it wasn't really much of a rivalry. The Steelers rarely beat us, but that didn't keep my Dad and my Uncle Bill (from Pitt) from having a lively but friendly banter during family visits. It was never smack. So I don't view our neighbors from the east as "the enemy", nor have I ever thought of Steeler fans like Hack, Bell's Legion, Guins, Sk8termom, and others that way. They don't come here dealing smack, but they're justifiably proud of their team. I'm good with that.

I know I'm a newbie n you all would presume this is not my board but over who...SteelHack? Come on man... I didn't see that remotely as smack...especially from Pastor who is as mild as a dawg can get. I don't care if I'm a newbie...oldbie I'm a Browns fan n Steel Hack is a Steeler fan - One of us should tred lightly n is a guest...I can care less if he has 10,000 post n I have 5 - he should always be the guest.

Now keep in mind that does not mean the rules of the pound should be broken n SMACK laid down. But that was not Smack... Steel Hack is a Steeler fan...all I see is me n other dawgs not talking PURE FOOTBALL. My disappointment is that of course no SMACK should be allowed in Pure football - POINT BLANK. But a Steeler fan should be considered the "GUEST" not a Browns Fan...I don't know its just me.

And I have no ill will towards Steelhack n would love to talk football with him. But this is the first time in a long long time that the chain of Good football has been broken probably due to the drop in good draft picks which they had an incredible run replacing the vets who would leave to FA... This is not SMACK but its point blank a good thing for us Browns fan that "POSSIBLY" after this season is over the National Bozos n Talking heads will consider us as a more competitive team. A First in a very long time n of course a first from the NEW ERA.

Just expounding my opinion...NO SMACK no taking over the board dictating. Understand Steel Hack has been a steady poster. But he will forever be a Steeler fan...that will have a Steeler Banner as a sig. which I don't care - That is more SMACK to me as a Browns fan than JMHO if I'm allowed to have one

I believe I started all this in my response to the Pastor.

Even at that, I didn't call it smack either. I simply said, "Bad form" (which it was) and explained who Hack is here. I guess it boils down to a real life dynamic in which I can call my friend a fool but don't you do it unless he's your friend too.

A lot of very welcome new members have come over here recently. They've really kicked the board up a notch. Much appreciated.

But I don't know any of them. I was attempting to avoid any smack in Pure Football in the future. (I guess deep inside I must have a burning urge to be a Ref. ) Truth is, I've been on this board since about '01 and I appreciate having a great place to talk Browns in a well organized manner. Unlike many team boards the rules have always provided for that.

It used to be that when a new member arrived they were welcomed and given the suggestion to read the Rules of the Pound. You never see that anymore. Plenty of grammar and spelling Nazis though.

We no longer have many visitors from other teams. (We used to have wars. Remember those days? ) I think it's because we don't allow smack outside of the Shack and most of them bring nothing to the football talk but smack.

Thanks Hack.

Sorry you're getting the business. I enjoy your posts and hope you continue to talk football here.

To bring the thread back on topic it's pretty amazing the amount of talent leaving the Steelers and Ravens. If there was a time the teams in Ohio had to seize the top of the division, it's right now.

Good point DD, I remember typing my first few posts and absolutely getting smacked down by Shep (speaking of which haven't seen him around forever unless he changed his name). Ah the good ol' days.

That being said I just want the rivalry to actually become a rivalry again and it looks like it may actually start to become a reality.

No doubt. Huge blows on both teams, but then again we don't really know the depth. Surely, as Kruger said, they have a "plan" right?

Personally, I hope the Squeelers & Ratbirds implode this season. I really have no hatred for the Bungles. Their fans have paid their dues as well.

I think bungle fans are the worst of the lot. I don't think there's a bigger bandwagon team in the NFL.

I want to thank all the veteran board members who stepped up and said nice things about me, and my involvement in this board.

and to the newbies....no worries.....trust me...MUCH MUCH MUCH worse has been said about me on this board.

The reason I like it here....is I can step away from my own message board....which just like here is mostly a mix of "WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL THE FRONT OFFICE CAN DO NO WRONG" vs "WE WILL BE LUCKY TO WIN 3 GAMES...WHAT IS THE FRONT OFFICE THINKING"

I like to see what you guys are thinking...and I like to be able to share correct info on my team when its needed.

For instance...someone said something about maybe the Steelers will finally draft some oline to protect Ben..... as the line stands right now today..it will have 2 first round picks, 2 second round picks, and an UDFA (Foster) as the starters.....and the UDFA is at LG where Warmack, or Cooper might be plug in play if available at 17.....they have spent 4 first or second round picks on Oline in the last 3 years.....The problem is more they are young and unproven than they are not trying.

Could be Adams, Cooper, Pouncey, Decastro, Gilbert.....all 3 inside would be #1 picks with #2 picks at the T...with Gilbert the oldest at 25.

btw...no personal insults intended...back to football.

I do not see just the investments made as the cure all. The Steelers best variable really is Big Ben...that is what separates you from other teams including US! I view it as our biggest draft mistake...taking KW2 over Big Ben.

But investing in the Interior which is fine n dandy but mostly the value of Left Tackles n even now Right Tackles have Risen so that by the time your Steelers are picking its down to the #5 or 6 OT n doesn't have value as much as REACH involved. Where as Interior its around #1 or #2 Interior of the draft - so you take them.

1. Pouncey...I think is over rated but he's just as good as our Mack at the least also taken early.

2. De Castro...good technician but he was not the Poster Boy OL for our Black n Blue division. I know many on our boards loved him especially for that #22 pick n trust me way better than Pinkston - but still I saw him having a weakness of power In Line Blocking. In our division with the Interior DL of Bengals, Ravens and YES OUR BROWNS...he just did not fit well.

3. But lets forget my analysis of OL - just the fact that both have had injuries which reminds me of Courtney Brown...I thought was a great pick n player but due to the injury factor was considered in history as a big Bust. So far for those 2 big investments it has not fared too well regarding injury.

4. Now comes to the fact of Steeler football changing from GROUND to AIR as so much of the NFL has. Defenses are finding more ways to attack the Air Offense n a vast majority will be to attack the weakness especially if that would be from the Edges.

Its the lack of prowess from your OT position that defines your downward presence on Offense. Big Ben is getting KILLED...that can last only so long. Your Interior investments just have not helped regarding that.

Now on defense...Its just there have not been great draft picks to be groomed into the system as in the past. There is no replacement for Harrison. The fact that Palo the last couple of season cannot sustain the intensity as in the past n continues to get injured - there is no substitute for these aging vets. Where in the past your drafting was AMAZING to say the least. As soon as you would let go a Vet to FA...you had a young star in waiting that was groomed for the position. NO longer. And that is what is different from Steeler teams past to this one.

Can you rebuild it...Of course you can but unlike past years where you had everything in place n youngsters ready to become stars n fit into the system...its not there.

And the fact that every team is Getting better on the corners w/DE's who are bigger n faster and more athletic as well as OLBs in the 3-4 which have increased n numbers (teams moving to the 3-4) the Steelers OTs of yesteryears just do not Formulate to the speed and athleticism that the corner presents.

Yeah I'm an OL nut...and think all revolves around the OL...Doesn't it But as a Browns fan disliking the Steelers (HATE RAVENS for obvious reasons) but respecting them - I've seen them Owning the LOS in years past. That is the biggest difference I see. No investment to take the place of Hampton. No investment to control the Edges (OT) well none that have prospered - I think that is where the misses are. No investments to take over for the aging vets. Ward, Palo, Harrison, Hampton etc.

I don't see the great drafts to keep the flow going. But the last hiccup you guys got (picking #11 in 2004) got you a franchise QB...but I don't think it will be a one year blip on the screen...you need a lot more n only this upcoming season will tell us - How far we have risen...How far the Steelers have dropped.

JMHO

The worst thing to do is to concentrate on a division rival.

Take care of our own house, then knock the snot out the rivals. Simple as that.
