The Browns have reportedly joined the race to acquire Trent Green. Detroit has also expressed mild interest. K.C. will wait for Dolphins GM Randy Mueller to return from vacation to resume talks. Chiefs GM Carl Peterson said Wednesday that a deal could be on hold until April's draft. Source: Palm Beach Post http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/playernews.aspx?sport=NFL

Hmmm...didnt we just get a slew of articles that Cleveland will not add a FA QB, or was that specifically talking to the David Carr pimps?....
The plot thickens.

Ditto,...i.e. Jeff Garcia. At least we got some usefulness out of Don Strock,...I'd just as soon go ahead and pull BQ in, as go after a has been.

I wouldn't mind trading a 2nd day pick for Green but only if Phil is targeting Quinn with our # 3 pick. You let Green start until Quinn is ready. Ideally though i would rather see us pick up Carr for reasonable $ and draft Thomas at # 3.

Green is a class act and has a few good years in his tank... Give him Thomas at #3 and a guard in 2 or 3 and our win totals just doubled from last year...

If we were going to bring him in I hope it is to help CF or DA and not Quinn. We could get peterson or Thomas and then have a first round pick able to contribute and help this team on day 1.

Trent needs a good O-Line to be successful... He has a GREAT arm, makes good decisions and has a few years left in the tank... I would take him any day of the week and Twice on Sundays...

Did you read what you just wrote,,, Basically you are saying give Green a line and our win totals double,,,
Well for cryin out loud,,, Frye is a class act and he certainly has way more that a few more years in the tank,,, why not give him the line and see what happens... Better than bringing in another old duffer.... and we don't have to give up even a low draft pick to do that.....
All these rumors crack me up,, I don't even think for one second that we have interest in Green

I think that's a great point, give him the line support, he would have plenty of targets...The guy is a class act when it comes to sportsmanship, people say he would get killed behind our line, well he got pretty banged up behind one of the best Olines in football........I say make a move for Green. I absoultely love Green to be OUR QB. With Quinn/Russell or not with one of them.

Why we have interest in Green?
Seems like Phil does not want too many QB-deals before the draft......It really looks more and more like he wants Thomas and hopes the QBs go 1-2.....anyway, it´s better for the overall value of our pickif no starting QBs settle with potential uptrae candidates....
that´s my take.....we are not interested but make sure the price stays up, so that the Fins, Lions, Raiders do not trade for him before the draft

This isn't a rumor and it doesn't mean we signed him... I am merely supporting the IDEA of him playing for us and glad to see that he is atleast a consideration by the F.O.

I'd rather have William Green on our team than Trent Green.
Just say no!
Quinn, Russell, Frye, Anderson, or some mid-round pick......NO OLD VETS! Especially an old vet that lost his job last year due to injury. We don't need a vet to teach Frye/Anderson, that's what our QB coach is for. And most vets don't care about being a positive mentor to a young QB anyway. I thought the Garcia signing was a bad mistake and this would be too. Green would be a bandaid.

u'd take a QB w/ a few years left, but not a RB w/ a few years left (ie Jamal Lewis).. not trying to say that you dont want Lewis, but i just used u as a guinnea pig.. lol...

I don't know why some of you think a veteran will make this team better... talent is what makes the team better...
How much experience did Tom Brady have when he took the Patriots to their first super bowl?
How much experience did Vince Young have last year when the Titans won like 7 games in a row?
Experience does help, don't get me wrong.... but i think talent can over do experience...
If Green had so much talent, then the Chiefs would have not let him go...

I think the number was 33 in the 20 or so games he started.

and you can dismiss the line problems if yoiu want,, but it doesn't make all of those turnovers Fryes fault,, You know darn well, that of the 33 or so turnovers,7 of them were INT's that bounced off the hands of his receivers,, how is that blaming the Line,,,,
You know that some, not all, but some of the fumbles were the result of him being gotten too to darn quickly,,,That' is the line,.,.,
I guess All I'm really saying here is that it isn't fair to put all the blame on Charlie like you have done,,, that's not right and the really funny thing is, you have been around a while, and I KNOW your smarter than that...
As for Trent Green,, Yeah, he's a classy guy, yes, he's a competitor, yes, he needs a line to produce and yea, he's still got skills....
What you don't know and will never find out is whether or not Charlie has skills...
I for one, want to know for sure,,
Now, let me say this,, if we were on the cusp of contending.. if we were at a point that a young and inexperienced QB was our biggest problem, then yes, I would think that Green would be a very welcome addition,, I'd be right there with you to bring him in..
but this team isn't going anywhere that fast.. we have too many holes to fill,,
May as well find out if Charlie has what it takes,,,
that' is JMO

Green and Dilfer... lol...
Green is a good QB. He will need an OL.
Even Charlie needs an OL.
Until the Browns get an OL, every available or potentially available QB will be pawed over by the fans looking for the savior.
Fix the OL.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

I agree 100% and how many of those belonged to BE??
The turnovers I was speaking of are the ones that are ON him... POOR passes thrown into wrong coverages or because he held the ball too long before the receiver could make his break... On and on it goes... You and I have been down this road and as many times as you have called me on my doubts about Frye, I have served you with my views as well...
I just find it ironic that the people that want to keep Frye around as the starter choose to ignore the fact that NO team seemed interested in acquiring him when word from the FO got out that he could be made available... Yet Trent Green (a PROVEN commodity)seems to garner attention from a couple of possible suitors and some people on here (you included) would rather have Frye??
Nice guy or not, IF we can upgrade ANY position with something better on this team, I AM ALL FOR IT...
And Daman, I know you are also smart enough to know that Trent Green NOW is an UPGRADE from ANYTHING Charlie has shown us thusfar... I am not suggestin gkick the kid to the curb but as I mentioned earlier, it is about upgrading any position anyway we can... A GREAT analogy would be when we acquired Jamal Lewis to take over the starting RB position and had him replace Rueben... Both are more than capable but the answer is obvious... JMHO...

The highest pick I would offer would be a 5th.
Green would allows us to do 2 things.
1) Tutor our QB of the future ( Frye, Quinn or whoever)
2) Win more games
I don't care what you people say Green is a better QB than Frye may ever be
Go Browns!!

Yeah, those suck for sure,, but once you take away the Turnovers that we seem to agree aren't on Charlie, you will find your down around 21 or so turnovers in 20 or so starts,, a hair over 1 per start..
I'm guessing that that isn't all that bad. but it's magnafied when it's in the red zone as a few of Charlies were.. makes it feel worse I guess. But it's no different than one outside the red zone.
Quote:

Oh for goodness sake,, you don't know if he was EVER shopped to any team, for all you know it was a rumor, just like the one that says we are looking at Green
Or, if indeed they floated it, it might have been done to mislead teams into thinking we were going after a QB in the draft.. it is that season after all..
So you call it a "FACT" that no team showed interest,, but you can't verify that the FO ever shopped him to begin with...
As for me being smart,,, clearly, you don't know me, I'm dumber than a box of rocks,,
But like someone else said, Changing QB's at this point is really not worth it,, I don't care if it's an upgrade or not,, what difference does it make if we don't fix the line,,
the classic example someone else posted (I think it was PPE)
My muffler is loud, so I bought new seat covers...

But you are pulling a quote that was meant to be used for someone other than me that was desputing getting an O-Line.., That is for a Draft thread and if you re read the original post in this thread from me, I was saying that grabbing Green from KC and drafting Thomas and another guard in 2 or 3 would double our win total from last year...
Getting an O-Line won't improve Charlie's handsize, ability to read defenses, knack for forcing ducks into coverage and throwing the ball too late... I will agree that he is DEFINITELY adequate but he isn't some Chia Pet that grows with just adding water (O-Line).... He is what he is... a 3rd rd project that fell in a WEAK draft... He will take alot longer to come around if he ever does...
Me, I will take whoever we can sign that is an upgrade and not look back... Keep the kid on ice to learn and hold the clipboard...
As for the rest of the post, it is that time of year when everyone has things put into print because it is the dead season... I don't know if Charlie was shopped any more than you do... It was printed from multiple sources so IMHO, it was more than just some rumor off of the rumormill websites... I am certain that som eof my fellow dawgs on here with insider ties may have caught wind of it though if it were true...

Bottom line, what's the one position we really have not fixed since our expansion? The line.
Fix it. Let it gel. Then worry about the QB.

WOW... you and Daman have really taken a tunnel vision approach to my opinion... Last time I checked, Trent Green isn't projected to cost us our #3 pick... You both furthermore failed to read my original post regarding who I would like to see us draft... How is signing a QB from another team getting confused with us ignoring the O-Line in the draft? DID I SPECIFICALLY WRITE THAT SOMEWHERE??? Thought so...

Oh no. Come on, if we're going after a QB go after someone a little younger that can be a long term answer. Trent is getting up there, just like the last Trent we had. If we go after anyone, go after Carr.
And Savage just said the only way we'd be picking up a QB was via the draft, so hopefully this doesn't come true.

Hey fix the line boy, stop and compare the line of today to the one we had 2 years ago and then compare the QB of 2 years ago. Get the hint!
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

It comes from a one or two line mention in a short article from a Florida news paper. If it looks like a rumor, and smells like a rumor, then it must be a rumor. This guy sure doesn't sound like a man with any inside knowledge of the Browns

If this were true, then why is he not on one of the 32 teams in the league? No one picked him up when we carted him to the curb.

Wikipedia defines sarcasm in the following paragraph: Sarcasm is sneering, jesting, or mocking a person, a situation or thing. It is often used in a humorous manner and sometimes expressed through particular vocal intonations. Sarcasm is often expressed in ironical statements. It can sometimes be the sincerest form of discourse for the emotionally fragile. This is often done by simply over-emphasizing the actual statement, or particular words of it.
Wikipedia defines Jest as : A joke is a short story or short series of words spoken or communicated with the intent of being laughed at or found humorous by the listener or reader. This sort of "joke" is not the same as a practical joke.
Note the writers use of "..." and the brevity of their comments. Certainly a serious statement would be conveyed in a more serious manner no?
May I humbly suggest you consider caffeine as a substitute for early morning wit.
