Speaking of the hottest tickets in town Sperg, someone got two playoff tickets to Round1 Game1. I think someone is going to flip them on eBay to those people that started watching 3 years ago. $$$$$$$As for buying and actually going to the events themselves, since I'm a STH for the Bears, most of my yearly sports budget is already spent. Years before that, I'd drop a few hundred on about 8 baseball games (both teams). I would get 2-3 Hawks tickets every year and then I finally got a season pass the year after the previous lockout. Man, talk about night and day difference between what's going on Chicago now. There were nights I had flashbacks to some Indians games in the late 80's...where the players outnumbered the fans in the stands. I actually don't mind Hawks bandwagoners. While they're nabbing up all the tickets, a small percentage will be converted to diehards in the process. So in the long run, there will be more true fans around. ...somehow, you and I end up turning most threads in the tailgate a Chicago-focused NHL discussion.

Definitely not here. It's become a thing. A lot of the older guys I play hockey with say it hasn't been this big since the 70's when it was again, bigger than a Bears/Cubs/Bulls ticket.
It's amazing how well the NHL is doing this year, their ratings have gotten better, despite the lockout. They're also doing well in the big markets in the US.
LA, Boston, Chicago, and both New York teams are all doing well.
I think the short lockout season is helping. I know the NBA seemed to get the same positive side effect last year. An 82 game schedule tends to tire out the players and water down each games importance.

No joke. They've left so many points on the ice the last couple of weeks because they couldn't close the game. In all honesty though, it has been kinda fun having these last couple weeks be do or die. I mean, obviously i'd rather have it locked up and cruising like you guys are, but we are where we are for a reason.

lol
I remember my gf and I going to games for 15 bucks a pop, and the place was half filled. We saw the Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Sharks, Blue Jackets, Flames, and Canucks all in one season.
It's actually right around the same price now to drive down to Nashville, get a night at the hotel, and see them play the Predators, and probably pay for a meal at a decent restaurant.
It was hilarious to hear casual fans and the media around here say that hockey is dead, the blackhawks are dead, and play the same old tired "they still play hockey?" jokes.
And now? lol
I would love to attend a Tribe/Sox game in September if they're still in it. I have had nothing but negative experiences in that stadium, as an away fan. I was actually threatened the first time I went to a game there. Freaking hilarious. Stay classy, Sox fans.
Ohio State does play on the road twice in this state though. At Northwestern and at Illinois. I may try and hit up both. Had great experiences at both.

I kinda hope the Wings and Hawks play in the first round. With the Wings leaving for the East next year, this would become an epic series.
I kind of don't want the Jackets to sneak in, I want no part of that goalie (Barbovski?). While we swept the season series, all 4 games were crazy tough. Same with the Blues, Elliot freaks me out.

Those are really tough tickets to get, I've tried in the past. There are lots of Ohio transplants here (you and I being two of them).
I'll grab a Wildcats game now and again. Good value.

The team they don't any part of is Anaheim. That would be a nightmare matchup. They throw big forwards at you. They D up as well as anyone, and they can throw 2 really good goalies at you (I love the way Fasth plays) Their only flaw might be their coach.
I really really want a Chicago/Pittsburgh final. I'll settle for Chicago/Boston, but Pens/Hawks would be legendary. Neither of those teams trap, so the hockey would be unbelievably watchable. The star power might be as good as their matchup from 20 years ago.
Best part is that I may be on the beach in NC with my family when that goes on, and my family can finally see how crazy my gf is, if the Hawks are playing in the finals while we're there. lol

I bought OSU/Illinois tickets on their website a month before the game. 60 bucks each, and we sat 10 rows from the 20 yard line.
Illinois fans were unbelievably nice to us. We were doing shots at 9am with a bunch of them. Could not have had a better time.
NW tickets may be a bit tougher, because the stadium is smaller, and closer to Chicago. I actually didn't have tickets when we went in 2006, we knew someone working security, and all he did was move the gate and turn his head for 10 seconds, LOL.
Some of their older fans are really snotty and mad that OSU took over the stadium, but the kids themselves could've cared less.
They also drive a bus around Evanston and pick people up and bring them to the game for free, so awesome.
This thread was hijacked, but it beats talking about the Cavs. Holy mother of God does it.

A guy I work with is a Nebraska fan, and he bought season tickets to the Wildcats, just so he could go the the Nebraska game, and sold off the rest, he said it was cheaper than buying one home Nebraska game.
You don't really get that "college football!" feeling at Northwestern, but it's still fun.

So now we need either the Lakers to win their final game, or Utah to lose 1 of their final 2 games, right?
Why isn't the Plain Dealer doing a better job of reporting this? They have articles about whether we are going to finish 3rd or fourth but this is a much bigger deal JMO.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

Looks like it all comes down to the final games for the 2 teams.
The Jazz won tonight, so that means that whoever wins their final game is in ....... or the Lakers win is they both lose.
The Lakers will have the advantage of knowing what they need during their game. The Jazz tip off at 8:30 local time on Weds against Memphis , and the Lakers tip at 10:30 against the Rockets.
It looks as though the Jazz have the harder game ...... but who knows?

If they are going to rig the games, then I would think that the NBA would want LA in the playoffs instead of Utah.

the make the playoffs, the Cavs get their draft pick they miss the playoffs, the Suns get their draft pick
Phoenix vs. Cleveland isn't just for the 3rd best lottery odds, it's also for a mid-round pick.

I'm not saying .. I'm just saying ... http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story...ive-sources-sayQuote:
Phil Jackson ready for NBA return Updated: April 17, 2013, 1:21 PM ET By Ramona Shelburne and Marc Stein
After nearly two seasons in retirement, Phil Jackson has become increasingly interested in working in the NBA next season, according to sources familiar with his thinking.
That doesn't necessarily mean a return to coaching, as Jackson is known to be intrigued by the concept of moving into management for the first time in his career.
But sources told ESPN.com this week that Jackson is "itching" to go back to work after a long spell to recharge since leaving the Los Angeles Lakers' bench following the 2010-11 season.
Sources stressed that there is no specific opportunity in play yet for Jackson, who resisted coaching overtures from the Brooklyn Nets earlier this season and told longtime confidant Charley Rosen in January in a SheridanHoops.com story that he "has no intention of ever coaching again."
But NBA coaching sources say that stance will not dissuade teams with openings from approaching Jackson this offseason to gauge his interest, with the Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers -- who interviewed Jackson in 2005 and are known to be contemplating a coaching change -- potentially at the top of the list.
What has Jackson really intrigued, sources say, is the opportunity to oversee an organization in the patriarchal style of Pat Riley with the Miami Heat or in a role similar to that previously held by Larry Bird with the Indiana Pacers.
But it remains to be seen if a team will give him that sort of chance, given that the 67-year-old Jackson is the most successful coach in league history with 11 championship rings and has never held a prominent NBA personnel job.
There's always the chance, sources said, that Jackson will simply stay retired if none of the opportunities that arise proves to be the right fit.
But the presumption in league coaching circles is that teams with openings this offseason will naturally reach out to the most decorated coach available to see if there's any hope of persuading him to coach again, especially since it appears that the Lakers don't have a suitable role to offer Jackson at this time.
Although Jackson did speak with Lakers management about replacing Mike Brown in November before the club hired Mike D'Antoni instead, sources maintain that a return to Los Angeles is highly unlikely.
The Lakers' intent, sources insist, is bringing D'Antoni back next season to give him the chance to coach the team with a full training camp and a healthy roster. Pau Gasol and Steve Nash both missed more than 30 games this season, and Kobe Bryant suffered a season-ending Achilles' tear this past weekend.
There would also appear to be little room for Jackson in the Lakers' front office, with vice president Jim Buss and longtime general manager Mitch Kupchak running the team.
Finances are another factor, since the Lakers would be paying top dollar for three coaches at once if they decided to replace D'Antoni after one season and turned to Jackson.
Jackson's engagement to Lakers executive vice president Jeanie Buss, sources say, is not believed to be a factor in determining Jackson's next stop.
While there is no known opportunity for Jackson to consider at present, that situation could change quickly with the end of the season looming for non-playoff teams, which will re-launch the league's annual coaching carousel.
Sources say that Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, who already made that previous run at Jackson early in his Cavs tenure, is giving strong consideration to firing coach Byron Scott.
As for the Nets, ESPN.com reported in December that Jackson was the undisputed top target for owner Mikhail Prokhorov after the dismissal of Avery Johnson. The prospect of interim coach P.J. Carlesimo retaining the job has not been ruled out depending on how Brooklyn fares in the playoffs, according to sources. But coaching insiders continue to say that Prokhorov's well-known desire to make a splashy hire will keep Jackson and ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy at the forefront of his thinking.
Jackson also has been mentioned as a potential candidate to be involved with the new ownership group in Seattle in a front-office capacity that would include mentoring Brian Shaw to be the team's new head coach, provided that Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer successfully complete the purchase of the Sacramento Kings.
The job security of Los Angeles Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro has likewise been questioned all season, with Del Negro in the final year of his contract.
But ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reported in February that Clippers owner Donald Sterling has no interest in pursuing Jackson -- no matter how much that would theoretically bother the rival Lakers and their fans -- because Sterling has never gotten over verbal jabs Jackson threw at him while with the Lakers.
After a lengthy period out of the spotlight, Jackson has been increasingly visible in recent weeks, appearing at both Shaquille O'Neal's jersey retirement and a ceremony to honor the New York Knicks' 1972-73 championship team earlier this month.
Jackson also recently joined Twitter (@philjackson11) and will soon be releasing a new book, "11 Rings," with author Hugh Delahanty next month.

I don't want any part of Phil if his health is still in question, and in relation to that, he wants to control which road games he goes to, because of health and various reasons.
Apparently that was an issue last time with him and the Lakers.
If you're going to go after a big fish, I'd rather back up the truck for Coach K.
