Per a source with knowledge of the situation, it’s now believed that the salary cap could exceed $123 million per team.
Not long ago, it was believed the cap would be $121 million per team. More recently, the magic number became $122 million.
Now, it’s more than $123 million.
At $123 million, that’s only a 1.9-percent increase over last year. But it’s more than anyone thought it would be. And the extra $2.4 million in 2013 can provide the foundation for a much larger guaranteed payment now, with the amount spread for cap purposes over multiple years.
Besides, with many teams fighting to get in compliance with the cap, every dollar helps.

What if some team just said screw the cap, we'll spend what we want to spend. Do they lose picks?
If they said OK, we'll forfeit picks, do they forfeit games?
Maybe the other owners simply lock the other owner up and beat him with a phone book across the midsection.

The league will not allow teams to go over the cap. If they have $5 million in cap space and want to sign a guy for $7 million the league won't approve it.

Which FA is a "bargain" for us? Looks like a number of vets available, but the price for a LB or cornerback is pretty high demand for dollars. We need a couple more beasts on D. Really wonder what the new skill doctors will pick. Just this bad feeling.

j/c Anyone know why Breston's playing time was cut last year? He's a good, solid receiver, sneaky deceptive with the ball, and from what I can tell, a good guy. He'd be great in the slot. Maybe be the guy that Norwood & Cooper tried to be but for some reason or another couldn't quite get it done. Plus, his veteran presence would be a plus. Only question is durability. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. A six-year veteran, Breaston was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 19. He could be a candidate to replace Browns receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, a free agent who is not expected to return. Breaston met with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, according to ProFootballTalk, but the Steelers reportedly are over the salary cap. They are restructuring the contract of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and are expected to finish it by the end of the week, ESPN's Ed Werder reported. According to multiple reports, they are doing the same with linebackers Lawrence Timmons and LaMarr Woodley and receiver Antonio Brown. The Steelers might be the front-runners to land Breaston, born in North Braddock, Pa. Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley coached Breaston with the Arizona Cardinals and during his first year with the Chiefs. The Dallas Cowboys, Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions are also interested in Breaston, according to NFL.com, and the Minnesota Vikings have been mentioned as another possible suitor. Breaston, 29, signed a five-year, $22.5 million contract with the Chiefs in 2011. He fell out of favor there last season, catching only seven passes for 74 yards in 10 games. "I'm not that guy. Other than that, taking a pay cut or restructuring doesn't sound good to me at this time. I like my deal. I start training in Minneapolis [on Thursday] and I'm more inspired than ever to start next season off right and be the tight end I know I can be. It's all business at the end of the day. I just love what I do."
Finley, 25, had a bit of a disappointing season in 2012, catching 61 passes for 667 yards and two touchdowns. His agent also made waves last season when he questioned quarterback Aaron Rodgers' leadership qualities.
He has 64 receptions for 2,485 yards and 17 TDs in three seasons.

I really want Hartline for this offense. I think Little is great for the Slot/TE type role. Gordon is your #1 big play guy. We need the dependable hands guy that is physical enough to beat 1 on 1 cause he wont see any doubles with Gordon on the other side and little in the middle.

I know you were a huge supporter of David last year before the draft, but I would hardly say he "transformed" the team when they were still a really bad defense.

I know you were a huge supporter of David last year before the draft, but I would hardly say he "transformed" the team when they were still a really bad defense.
He had Eric Wright behind him...can't help that.
And he was 8th in the NFL in tackles...as a rookie...from the WILL not the Mike. That's crazy. He had 35 more tackles than anyone on his team.
He was the only addition to that front 7.
And they went from last in the NFL in 2011 to first in the NFL in 2012!
A lot of that is Lavonte David, the defensive Rookie of the Month in November.

Josh Cribbs, 29, special teams/receiver: Holder of more than a dozen franchise return records, he was fourth in kickoff returns and sixth in punt returns in 2012 – but didn’t score. His frustration with losing and watching teammates drop balls often boils over. Heir-apparent Travis Benjamin is 40 pounds lighter, doesn’t play on coverage teams like Cribbs and has question marks about durability and ball security. Phil Dawson, 38, kicker: Probably the most popular player of the expansion era, he holds the franchise record with 305 field goals and is 78 points shy of Lou Groza’s scoring record. The Browns’ only full-time kicker is coming off his first Pro Bowl berth. He won’t be given the franchise tag a third year in a row and hopes to end his career with a winning team. Scott Fujita, 33, outside linebacker: He ended his third straight Browns season on injured reserve and is trying to avoid neck fusion surgery. I don't know why they wouldn't keep English & Stephens, at least through camp. Cutting them would be stupid. Tender the minimum and see what they do in the new system, they have to be more valuable than some UDFA or 7th rounder. Also don't know why they wouldn't keep Obi around. He does nothing but bust hump. The rest, I could care less about. I want Dawson to stay, but he's already out the door.
