Hmmm... Still don't know if that's what it would take to keep him... He needs to take a back seat in the locker room, and keep his yapper shut in the media. Is that even possible?

Josh Cribbs: I'll take pay cut to stay in Cleveland
By Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Josh Cribbs envisions a bigger offensive role under Browns coordinator Norv Turner. (USATSI)

Josh Cribbs really wants to stay in Cleveland.

The three-time Pro Bowler -- who ranked fourth in the NFL with 27.4 yards per kickoff return and sixth with 12 yards per punt return last season -- acknowledged he doesn't detect much interest from upper management in having him back. He's trying to stir up their interest.

“My plan is to stay with the team as much as possible, even to take a slight pay cut,” Cribbs said on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “But at the same time, not huge paycuts. And I'm trying to work with the team. I want to be a Brown. I want to end my career here. We have the coaches to do it now, to take it to the next level, and I definitely want to be there.”

Cribbs envisions a bigger offensive role under new coordinator Norv Turner. After catching 41 balls for 518 yards and four touchdowns in 2011, Cribbs had seven catches for 63 yards last season.

“I worked with Coach Turner at the Pro Bowl a couple years ago and I definitely know that they can help me succeed and use me like I should be used,” Cribbs said. “And hopefully we can get this contract thing worked out.”

Problem is, Cribbs is viewed as a return specialist and the NFL devalued returners by changing the kickoff rules.

Cribbs went to the Pro Bowl as an alternate, replacing the Ravens' Jacoby Jones. Cribbs, who turns 30 in June, will be an unrestricted free agent after eight seasons in Cleveland.

NFL.com reported Cribbs was seeking $1.8 million-$2 million annually in a new deal, a price the Browns are unlikely to pay. The report said the 49ers and Chargers have expressed interest in Cribbs.

If Cribbs needs to be a WR in our offense, then the offense is going to suffer. I'm not saying he can't catch or anything, but he's not a WR. His being in the line-up (with the exception of injury to someone else) just takes reps away from our young, developing receivers. To have a major role in the offense is counterproductive, in my opinion.

He can catch.

I see it very similar, however, Cribbs catches EVERYTHING - vitally important as a WR

That'd be a bargain for a player like Cribbs who covers 2-3 roster spots by playing on all 4 ST units well AND is a good no5/gadget WR...he can backup outside and the slot. The vet minimum for a player his age is close to 1mil, I'd happily throw another million his way to keep him around for 2 more seasons. Benjamin is a PR-only and would be on IR quickly if he returns full time and plays WR

I'd like him back for S/T purposes, but I am so tired of the mid-season bickering that we have gotten for 5 straight years.

If I'm Banner, I hand him something fair for both sides and tell him that his role will mainly be S/T and to look elsewhere if he wants anything more.

I love his passion, it's just that I think the act has gotten old.

I've always been a big Cribbs fan, but I don't want him back. It seems every season he's complaining about his lack of playing time and to be perfectly honest I don't want him to be anything more than a ST guy. To be frank, I've grown tired of his whole act. He's going to be 30 years old in a couple months and I think he's run his course here. He's never going to be happy as a ST-only guy and I doubt we want him to be anything more than that. Let him go elsewhere and let's just put this whole saga to an end. He's just not worth the hassle.

I agree, but going through the media is a bad idea. What's wrong with just going into the office and getting 1 on 1. I would imagine that kind of stuff can divide a locker room.

Cribbs lost me when he told the fans to f-off on twitter after the loss to the Broncos. KO returners have a short shelf life in the NFL and Cribbs's is about to expire.

really? what if the person he told f-off too really deserved it? what if it was one of the members of THIS board that people don't like?
he catches everything thrown his way, he does whatever the coaching staff asks him to do, and all he ever complains about is getting IN THE GAME, something he likes to do and wants more of it. i don't fault any player for wanting to be in the game all the time. it's not right to complain to the media about it, but i don't hold it against him because he has given this team and this city 100% effort every play, every game.

BINGO!!!

I liked Cribbs ALOT, have his fathead in my mancave. But This constant me me me attitude of his is played out. Braylon Edwards wasnt this much of a diva and everyone hated him.

Cribbs needs to know his role, and shut his mouth and play ball. Too bad for him he doesnt have a push over like Holmgren here anymore. Joe Banner is as cold as ice, and doesnt care if the fan base dont like it.

No way should Cribbs make 2mil a year for returning kicks, you can find his type every year in the undrafted players. Lets not forget the only reason he stood out for such a long time is because the talent level around him was terrible. As the talent on the team continued to rise, the need for him decreased. We only played him at WR in the past because we had nobody else to throw the ball to. Considering we have drafted Little, Gordon, and Benjamin Id say the writting has been on the wall for Mr. Cribbs.

Thanks for the memories Cribbs, but your act has worn out its welcome!

Really Browns fans?

We want Josh Cribbs to leave...really? A guy who has given his all to this organization, has NEVER thrown a coach, teammate, or anyone under the bus...just when we get to about 3-8 says I want the ball...

We have a problem with that? A guy who went to the pro bowl and has multiple times...and we're ready for him to just go in free agency...were tired of his act?!

What crazy world am i living in?!

Josh Cribbs wants to be a Brown...has done NOTHING but good the whole time he has been a brown, says hes willing to take a paycut to be here and we as fans say no?! Thats craziness...

He catches everything thrown his way, goes hard, does whatever job they give him...to say getting him involved takes away from other players? young guys to develop?!

He had one coach say lets get him involved in the offense, so he said yes please, worked and became a serviceable receiver, then the next coach says, we should get him back to being an ST guy...because our STs fell off, so he went from on pace to a 60 catch season down to 41 because our STs suffered...then they pigeonholed him to say we need him on STs exclusively...

He wants the ball in his hands, and when he has it he does good things...but we dont want him on the field so who...travis benjamin, jordan norwood, or josh cooper can get some extra snaps? Okay Browns fans.

Im dumbfounded.

A guy who does nothing but good, wants the ball, and wants to win, and wants to play...wants to be a force, and we say na...cuz...he says he wants the ball to reporters when we start to lose big...

terrible.

I would debate this. He's not the player he once was, and isn't all that effective running the ball whether it's as a WR, QB, RB, PR or KR. He's not elusive, and doesn't have breakaway speed. He's just ok, nothing special any more.

We say it like he was...

the rules have changed in kickoffs...all hes ever done is run through guys, which he still does, but when he gets hit by two guys cuz he doesnt have the blocking of course hes going to go down more often.

Look at his highlights...elusive wasnt really ever an attribute that was attributed to him. He has sure hands and is a load to take down, that hasnt changed...just the surrounding circumstances have...blocking, rules...etc. Guys dont make the pro bowl because they get worse...

He has broken fewer tackles I give you that, but i think there is improved tackling in the NFL especially on special teams in the recent years because its a penalty to just light a guy up now...those were the tackles he ran through.

He still does his job and if you can remember a negative play that involved Cribbs (save for the botched pitch to Benjamin) youre a better rememberer than i. He does work.

I just dont see why we'd be willing to let go of a guy that only wants to be here...We have Browns fans in the organization and coaches that know how to use him. no reason to let him go...and really at 1.8-2mil a season...thats peanuts...we gotta spend it somewhere...why not on a pro bowl guy. If we can tag Dawson for years, we can spend 1-2 mil on Cribbs...its not like hes asking for 4+...he doesnt even need 2.... 1.5 mil a year.

And if you can name 15-20 players on the roster that dont start that play the game BETTER than him...i wouldnt believe you.

Good PR Move Josh...

Put out that you would take a "pay cut" to stay with the team... Putting the ball in the Browns court when it was never really in yours to begin with...

Tired of this dude.

I agree with this comment 100% I want Cribbs to retire a Brown, he's one of the few bright spots on this team. He earned his way on the team and excelled at what he does. Rules hampered him, but, he is still near the top. If we had more players with his drive and determination, maybe we would have won a few more games over the past years. Trust me, someone will snatch him up in a second.

This is a case for why players won't come here. Imagine being a guy like Cribbs and reading this post. Or for that matter, one of the young players. Greatest fans ......................really?

I'm not about making him a receiver I'm talking about keeping him where he is best, gunner, and KO returns.

Hayden is a good return guy, so is Benjamin, but the coaches chose Cribbs.....there is a reason.

Up until last season I think there were viable arguments to have Cribbs be a large part of the offense. He probably should have started over some of the duds: Robiskie, Stuckey, Steptoe.

Now with Little and Gordon he has much less of a viable role. For all I know he could be more talented than Benjamin at WR. But I unfairly blame benji for the week 1 interceptions

I think over the tenure of having Cribbs it is borderline criminal how little he was used on offense. Especially considering the lousy WRs during that time. For fun's sake I wanted to see him at QB instead of Thad Lewis last year.

But Cribbs' time as a potential starter on this team has faded. I'd like to have him remain on the team, but there are some out there (Miami), where he could actually play WR. Though I don't know if anyone wants him for anything but returns.

Deep, Lobbing Fades to a 5'10 WR? I put that on the Playcalling/QB Decision...

If Gordon (even in Game 1) was in his spot I doubt they get picked at least...

For some reason we never got to see those throws made to Gordon.

I look forward to the offensive corrections this season

I blame Benji a little bit for not putting up a fight. But it was a real mystery to me why those throws were being made to our shortest WR. Seemed to foreshadow an entire season of refusing to utilize Gordon's size.

He absolutely should have been playing over those guys...

but, what is the harm in making him a 4th WR...then he can maintain his focus on being a ST demon but can also be a wideout.

Its crazy also to think that he cant do both...I mean...Devin Hester, Jacoby Jones, Javy Arenas, and Leon Washington can all be awesome return men and good at their position...Okay Dante Hall sucked as a wideout...but there are plenty of examples of guys that play a position and be a returner/gunner...

If we had a WR corps of Little, Gordon, Benjamin, Cribbs, Norwood, and Cooper...thats 6 guys that can do their job well. When Little slides into the slot we go Cribbs, when Little stays outside we go Benjamin...Cribbs is terrific on the outside...and goodness if we ran a bubble screen and got Cribbs the ball with Little and Schwartz out blocking for him? Oh man.

There are SO many ways to use Josh Cribbs. The crazy thing is that when he is on the field, teams worry about him...that just opens things up more for other guys...Even if he is a decoy.

Josh Cribbs is the wrong guy for us to want to get rid of. Why arent we saying were tired of MoMass's injured/useless act...why arent we tired of Joe Haden's getting busted for adderall act, or Scott Fujitas bounty scandal act...or whatever else.

A guy that wants to stay to play in a city he loves that he helps immensely! We are tired of his I want the ball, I want to make the team better act.

Seriously...I own a Cribbs jersey and I will wear that no matter where he plays...He is the kind of player that we NEED in Cleveland, a work hard guy that when things arent going well says give me the ball...He never says anything at all until were like 4-8 and the wheels are falling off and the media baits him into saying yes...I want the ball more. I think I could help.

And we've made his "gripes" out to be terrible, when Ive never heard him say anything negative. he says, I do what the coaches tell me, but yes Id like the ball more, but I trust them...I just know with the ball in my hands I could help make the team better...theres nothing wrong with that.

I feel like we'd gripe if we had Brady. We dont want a QB that models uggs, we dont like that he yells at his OLers when they make a mistake...his wife says things on twitter she shouldnt...he cant win in the playoffs anymore.

Here's why smart free agents never speak, except through their agents ......

Cribbs has almost certainly taken himself off the very front of the market, because what team wants to be accused of tampering?

Josh Cribbs' comments about talks with other NFL teams inaccurate, say agents | cleveland.com
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss...t_river_default

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The agents for Josh Cribbs have disputed the Browns veteran's statement during a radio show Thursday that they're already negotiating with other teams. Such behavior would constitute tampering according to NFL rules.

After eight years with the Browns, Cribbs will become a free agent March 12 unless the team re-signs him first. Teams can begin negotiating with other clubs' free agents March 9, and deals can be signed on the 12th.

"My agent has been meeting with several different teams," Cribbs told ESPN Cleveland Thursday. "There is a lot of interest. There are already numbers brought to the table. Things are happening. Wheels are turning behind closed doors."

Peter Schaffer, one of Cribbs' representatives along with J.R. Rickert, told The Plain Dealer Thursday that Cribbs' comments were not accurate.

"Our conversations to this point have been exclusively with the Browns," Schaffer said.

Rickert tweeted: "Let me be clear. [Cribbs] is a Cleveland Brown til March 12. No other discussions are in process."

Schaffer stressed, however, that the interest for Cribbs will be robust if a deal with the Browns isn't done. "We do anticipate a strong market for Josh if it gets to that point," he said. "Josh was rated the No. 2 kick returner and No. 2 special teamer last season. When has that ever happened? Not to mention all the things he can do for a team on offense."

Schaffer said he's been communicating frequently with the team.

"We have an outstanding relationship with the front office and have been in constant communication with them, exchanging our thoughts on Josh," he said. "In a perfect world, Josh would love to be a Brown for life, but in the event he hits the market, we anticipate there being a lot of interest for a player of his caliber."

The two sides met at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last week and have kept the dialogue going since then.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Cribbs said at the end of the season that he doubted he'd be back with the club. Tuesday, he told 92.3 The Fan that he's not optimistic, but that he'd be willing to take a hometown discount to stay. He said he didn't think upper management was interested in re-signing him.

He also told ESPN Cleveland that he has no plans to defect to the Ravens or Steelers. His former Browns special teams coach, Jerry Rosburg, is now with the Ravens.

"Just me being who I was to this community, they would have to come at me with ridiculous numbers," he said. "Realistically, those are not my intentions. I don't have intentions to play in our division."

Other prominent Browns free agents include kicker Phil Dawson, tight ends Ben Watson and Alex Smith and receiver Mohamed Massaquoi. Browns CEO Joe Banner declined comment last week on which of his own free agents he'd like to try to re-sign.

In other Browns news, the team is not expect to try to sign free agent receiver Steve Breaston, who visited on Wednesday. Breaston, who was cut by the Chiefs last week, is also visiting the Steelers and most likely other clubs.

You'd rather get rid of Joe Haden then Josh Cribbs?

hmmm who was the last Browns player to catch a TD pass in a Pro Bowl http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000131528/Schaub-to-Cribbs-for-TD I mean come on guys Cribbs has always done anything ask of him by the Browns, he has always busted his hump and given 100 percent. He is well worth 1.5 million a year for the next 2 or 3 seasons

Well somebody's lying and/or somebody doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut. Now I wonder who the one who likes to talk is? Hmmm.
