Has Cribbs officially signed anywhere yet?

Updating a previous item, the Cardinals have not agreed to terms with free agent KR/WR Josh Cribbs.
There were reports out late Wednesday night that Cribbs had a deal with the Cards. Those appear to be premature. Top beat writer Kent Somers is now getting "the vibe" that Cribbs is seeing what else is out there. The Patriots are still in the market for a kick-return specialist. Mar 14 - 4:00 PM

Not according to NFL.com. I know he's met with the Cards, but it's not on the official transaction list as far as I can see.

You see that in every NFL stadium across the league. We are certainly not the best fans, but we are far from the worst.

Are you so sure about that?

I don't see other teams fans cheering their injured players like ours has...nor saying some of the hateful things to its players like ours has....and the outright brutish and boorish behavior shown towards our players via social media.

just because you may see some of that stuff in other NFL stadiums doesn't make it right.....i see it as very dishonorable behavior.....nothing good can come from acting that way.

I am just saying there is a right and a wrong way to go about things...these players are still human beings..they are people, and they don't deserve to be treated and spoken to the way they have been... i don't care how much money they make...they don't deserve to be mentally and emotionally abused by the fans who want to act mean just because they don't win.

All in all..its a game...a sport...these players deserve better...to be treated with respect and dignity...and the fans deserve better too...to be known across the NFL as being gracious, humble, and honorable....by treating its players with kindness and appreciation....not cold-hardheartedness and anger all the time....

When have you seen the fans as a whole cheer an injured Brown?? There are always individual idiots who do those kind of things but certainly not the majority. If you are referring to the old Tim Couch incident they werent cheering that he got hurt. They were cheering for Derek Anderson. 2nd string quarterbacks are often the most popular guy in town when you have a losing team.

Psssst....it was Kelly Holcomb.

When DA got injured, I believe fans were cheering for Brady Quinn.

Really Browns fans?

We want Josh Cribbs to leave...really? A guy who has given his all to this organization, has NEVER thrown a coach, teammate, or anyone under the bus...just when we get to about 3-8 says I want the ball...

We have a problem with that? A guy who went to the pro bowl and has multiple times...and we're ready for him to just go in free agency...were tired of his act?!

What crazy world am i living in?!

Josh Cribbs wants to be a Brown...has done NOTHING but good the whole time he has been a brown, says hes willing to take a paycut to be here and we as fans say no?! Thats craziness...

He catches everything thrown his way, goes hard, does whatever job they give him...to say getting him involved takes away from other players? young guys to develop?!

He had one coach say lets get him involved in the offense, so he said yes please, worked and became a serviceable receiver, then the next coach says, we should get him back to being an ST guy...because our STs fell off, so he went from on pace to a 60 catch season down to 41 because our STs suffered...then they pigeonholed him to say we need him on STs exclusively...

He wants the ball in his hands, and when he has it he does good things...but we dont want him on the field so who...travis benjamin, jordan norwood, or josh cooper can get some extra snaps? Okay Browns fans.

Im dumbfounded.

A guy who does nothing but good, wants the ball, and wants to win, and wants to play...wants to be a force, and we say na...cuz...he says he wants the ball to reporters when we start to lose big...

terrible. [/Quote]

I want to be on the Browns too. I want the ball, want to win and want to play. Unfortunately wanting is not enough. I am too old, too slow and cant deliver results so I dont blame them for not giving me a job

. Josh Cribbs can no longer deliver like he did. He has lost a step and the rule changes help to negate /reduce his value for returns. He is not nor will he be a starting WR anywhere in the NFL. To make that worse he doesn't seem to understand that.
I am a fan of what hes done but its time for him to move on. Football is a business. I expect for my ongoing season ticket money to see a winning product. To that end the management will have to make tough decisions at times, sometimes unpopular. I don't care just deliver me a winning team.

Just googled Josh Cribbs...... still a free agent, as far as i know. He was close to signing with the Cards - but that's still a no-go as far as the Internet says this morning (3/17/13).

Looks like Josh will be a FA for the forseeable future.

Quote:

Speculation for the better part of a week has been that Josh Cribbs is not only on is way out of Cleveland, but that he is headed to the Arizona Cardinals. In fact, the Plain Dealer reporter on Sunday that Cribbs was headed to Arizona to take a physical and, “if all goes as Cribbs hopes, he’ll be a Cardinal by Monday the source said.”

ESPN Cleveland has learned from multiple sources that the delay in Cribbs signing is because he failed his physical with the Cardinals on Monday. It is unclear at this time what may have been the cause of the failed physical and if this will deter Arizona from signing the nine year NFL veteran.

Update: Mike Garafolo of USA Today has tweeted that Cribbs' agent JR Rickert said his client underwent surgery to repair meniscus after the season and it has not completely healed. He added that they expect for Arizona to give Cribbs another physical in a few weeks and possibly sign him then.

At the very least this is a bump in the road for one of the all-time great special team’s players in NFL history. Cribbs wanted to be a part of an offense wherever he signed and it looked as though the Cardinals with their new head coach Bruce Arians might be the perfect fit.

Cribbs has been in Arizona for the past two days and apparently crossed paths with ESPN Baseball insider Jim Bowden.

Bowden tweeted Monday night, “Josh Cribbs hangin with us. @CityHall Mastro's meeting with AZ Cards mañana and deciding between. 49ers Giants & Cards.”

It seems as though Cribbs still has options on the open market but only time will tell if a failed physical will scare off prospective suitors.

Tuesday's moves: Josh Cribbs signing on hold

"...A potential deal between the Arizona Cardinals and wide receiver and kick returner Josh Cribbs is on hold because Cribbs hasn't fully recovered from off-season surgery on the meniscus cartilage in one of his knees, Cribbs' agent J.R. Rickert told USA TODAY Sports Tuesday.

Rickert was responding to a report from ESPNCleveland.com that stated Cribbs failed his physical with the Cardinals on Monday. Rickert didn't agree with the characterization of a "failed" physical because he expects the Cardinals to give Cribbs another physical in a few weeks...."

He might pass the next one. And if he doesn't? If he can't pass the physical...who wants him?

Josh Cribbs failed physical with Cardinals
Sources tell ESPN Cleveland that free agent Josh Cribbs (knee) failed his physical with the Cardinals.
Now we know what the holdup has been. The two sides reportedly had a tentative agreement in place last Wednesday, but Cribbs never signed on the dotted line. His agent has revealed that the return man had surgery to repair his meniscus after the season and still isn't completely healed. He believes that the Cardinals will give Cribbs another physical in five weeks and if it's clean, a deal will finally go down.

Bruce Arians sees Josh Cribbs as an offensive weapon

Posted by Josh Alper on March 20, 2013, 4:26 PM EDT

The Cardinals didn’t wind up signing Josh Cribbs earlier this week because of the torn meniscus in Cribbs’ knee, but it sounds like coach Bruce Arians still has his heart set on adding Cribbs to the roster this season.

Arians was asked about Cribbs at the league meetings in Phoenix on Wednesday and said he envisions a big role for the former Browns wide receiver and kick returner. In addition to special teams work, Arians said that he thought Cribbs could help the Cardinals “become more dynamic” on offense in 2013. He talked about lining Cribbs up to take snaps or out of the backfield, but expressed the most interest in seeing Cribbs as a receiver.

“That’s the part I’d like to get my hands on to find out about,” Arians said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “Get him out on the grass and see what his positives and his negatives are as a receiver. I know once he gets his hands on the football how dynamic he can be. It’s where do you put him to get his hands on the football.”

Cribbs’ agent J.R. Rickert said that his client actually passed his physical with the Cardinals, but that the team wanted to wait until he was healthy to sign him. That’s expected to be in about five weeks. Assuming it comes to pass, Cribbs looks like he’s in line for a bigger role than he had in Cleveland.

Good luck with that, Bruce Arians.

i like the guy and my foolish heart wishes we'd sign him and keep him but reality is...he's been beat up pretty badly, has lost a step, never did work out in the wildcat (or maybe the wildcat just wasn't worth a hoot), he's at best an average WR, and yeah he can't keep his mouth shut.

his own family this past season was asking him to retire.

if they sign him, it will be a short term contract and he'll be gone in a year or two. if they sign him for a longer contract than that, then the Cards f.o. is dumber then i ever thought.

Sounds like Arians does, but if we had switched him to safety 6-7 years ago as I suggested, he would be in high demand.

So, his agent says he "passed" the physical, contrary to what we've been told, but the cards want to wait until he's healthy to sign him? Odd.

And Arians wants to see what Cribbs can do in, basically, a wildcat, and as a receiver........which he's done in Cleveland......

It just all seems kind of odd. I've heard of "buyers remorse", but is there such a thing as "almost buyers remorse?"

Or is it "hey, he passed the physical, we want him, but we want to be sure he's healed up before we sign him?"........which, in other words, means he's not healthy.

Perhaps, as to the title of this thread - Cribbs MAY take a paycut to play anywhere.

And the team's doctors don't. Even if Arians wants him, he won't get him unless Cribbs passes the team's physical.

If we had offered him as trade bait instead of extending his contract as I wanted, we'd have gotten rid of this moron a long time ago and gotten something in return for him. I suppose I could be convinced that the team would have wasted whatever they would have gotten in exchange, but that's really beside the point.

I love hearing a coach talk like that. Not this gobbledygook Holmgren and Shurmur were talking about "We have a system, and we know it works." Putting your players in the best position to succeed vs. stubbornly sticking to a system you sold the owner on is what makes a good coach vs. what makes a Browns coach. Hopefully Chud (and Horton) will change that.

Don't know this for sure but there has been an article or two, citing sources, saying coaches were concerned Cribbs wasn't mentally equipped to play WR. That does seem logical since really no coach he worked under gave him legitimate time at WR.

So maybe in the end, saying something like "We have a system...." could be a polite way of saying Cribbs wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, and maybe that is a reason he never caught on at WR for ANY coach here.

While I don't doubt that you read that somewhere, or that some coaches may have even insinuated that, it's a load of crap. No disrespect to you, but coaches need to make their team perform well. There are players on their team, and it is incumbent upon them to maximize the performance of those players.

It's not rocket science. Cribbs can catch a football. He can run with the football. It's up to the coach to make that happen. One of Shurmur's biggest issues was that he was so inflexible that he was take any square or diamond-shaped or star-shaped peg and try to jam it into his round hole of a predictable WCO.

Maybe coaches are so keen to show that they are the ones who make the difference that they insist the players adapt to their system instead of the other way around.
