Cleveland.com is reporting the Browns will pursue Raven linebacker Paul Kruger, and Lion's Cliff Avril. Which one would you prefer http://www.cleveland.com/brown...ports#incart_m-rpt-2

I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Thanks and I doubt the Browns are declaring this, its probably being "secretly leaked"

It said "Cleveland Browns will pursue Baltimore Ravens' Paul Kruger, Detroit Lions' Cliff Avril in free agency, sources tell Plain Dealer" ... No Tampering can be proven when it is "Sources" ...

That's probably true of most reporters, The thing you can't really do is ignore that they have insider info from time to time. I think normally, MKC mimics what the national guys say. But every once in a while she finds a gem.
Dunno if this is one of those times..

Agreed and believe that the reporters are given legit information all the time. Just not all that impressed with MKC output recently.
Yes, normally sources are very legitimate, just not sure who hers are.

Should the Lions lose Avril, that could be very good for our draft as the Lions would almost have to take a 4-3 DE. That could leave Milliner on the board at #6...

If we were negotiating n stuff. The timing of this stinks of Agents leaking to the Bozo's looking to print anything that people will read. So it might create a fervor on the Big Money days of FA first day or so. Nah/..its really our Inexperienced Banner n Lombardi actually breaking the rules so we could lose a draft pick...lol I wonder which is it... Just guessing...its the Bozo's

In MKC's defense, so was everyone else's. That was a fiasco across the board, including the national media. Oddly enough, I think she was the first one to report the Chud hire.
But either way, she's been inconsistent with stories coming to fruition as far as I can remember. In fact, her and Grossi, I will pass up for the national reporters for my information. The local media usually confirms national media reports.

She's horrible. In my opinion and in her defense, Grossi wasn't much better.
It's simply just them all writing about who they speculate the Browns will pursue. Nothing more than the writers hoping that they're compelling so they can keep a job.

With the way things have shifted in terms of media coverage, I don't know what more a local newspaper reporter can do anymore.
Once upon a time, if a team wanted something to be known, they'd hook up with the beat reporter. These days it's usually a national writer who works for ESPN or an internet based agency.
The days of Hal Lebovitz are over.

I think Hal Lebovitz goes under the name Terry Pluto these days. Reporter trades objectivity (ie, supports the company line) for access and exclusivity.

2. Cliff Avril I think he's a good player. But is he simply a product of a talented Detroit Lions defensive line? While he will be better than Charles Johnson and Ray Edwards, paying top dollar to the "other" defensive lineman always scares me. And it would scare me that Detroit, which has had a lot invested in Avril and franchised him last season, would let him walk. 3. Paul Kruger I like Kruger a lot ... at the right price. He had a dominant postseason with a knack for getting to the quarterback. He's a great teammate with an Energizer Bunny playing style. And you certainly can argue that he hasn't reached his potential yet. But here's the rub: I don't think he is a three-down player. I believe he will get more money than he deserves from a team with cap room (think: Cleveland Browns). I root for Kruger. He's a good player. But if your team signs him, don't expect him to be someone he isn't. web page

that's because there aren't people reporting like Hal Lebovitz and Myron Cope. They were homers, but had integrity.

The Cleveland Browns are definitely prepared to try to sign Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent LB Paul Kruger, according to a source.

On the 2nd page. No surprise really. Also says Colts are interested and are going to work the Chuck Pagano/Former Coach angle.
Also saw that Ellerby expected to get a contract in the 30M range. If so, we need to make a run at BOTH of these guys. 5Y/30Mish would be a steal for Ellerby. Dude can play!

again all depends on the source...Adam Schefter...when he says stuff like that is pretty good. not so high on him cause I think the SOLB is very doable not to spend a lot of money on.
Ellerbe...really like him he has good size n would be a good combo with DQ who could move to the WILB that best suits him n Ellerbe to SILB.

On one hand I'd rather have Kruger, guys converting from a 4-3 are always a project.
On the other hand I think Avril can rush the passer better.
Honestly we could use both, our LBing core is pathetic aside from Dquell.

I'd be very pleased with either of those guys. Both are an instant upgrade to our rushing attack and i'm sure Horton's lips are salvaging for the both of them!

Just nudging you a little... Looks like the Ravens are going to offer him something around a $30M deal. Doesn't look like he's going anywhere. They need him in the middle of their D. Ozzie isn't letting him walk.

Ellerbe is priority #2 after Flacco for the Ravens. Which probably means they can't do anything for Kruger, Reed, & Williams.

Paul Kruger - LB - Ravens ESPN's Ed Werder reported on SportsCenter that the Browns and Colts will aggressively pursue OLB Paul Kruger in free agency. Per Werder, Cleveland is "definitely gonna go after" Kruger and will face "intense competition" from Indianapolis, which reportedly envisions Kruger as Dwight Freeney's replacement opposite Robert Mathis. Werder expects Kruger to be signed quickly after Tuesday's free-agent signing period opens. Kruger, 27, led the Super Bowl Ravens in 2012 sacks. We anticipate he'll command a contract worth in the $12 million range annually; perhaps $60 million over five years. http://www.rotoworld.com/playernews/nfl/football

Ouch!!! 12 mil per? I like Kruger and Avril but thats a tough contract to swallow. If thats the going rate I would be inclined to either sign Barwin or draft Jones at 6.
