This board has long had a ban on Twitter and I think it's time to lift it. It's now one of the biggest websites in the world (500 million users) and will definitely be the go to place for signings this free agency period.

I understand the hesitation, but I suggest we try it out with only verified Twitter users and at least implement a trial period to see if it works or not. If it winds up being a huge mess, then we can always go back.

Presidents, players, and even the Queen of England are on Twitter now. Can we at least give it a shot to see if it works?

It seems like we're stuck in 2005 on this website and refuse to try anything new, and it's very disappointing, especially since Twitter will be the first source for signings this offseason.

Yup, it's a big site,, very much attention,, and it's still open to rumors.. so for my money,, I'd rather keep it off..

Why is why I recommended only using verified Twitter accounts.

The problem isn't in allowing verified Twitter accounts, as I've looked into that before and felt it could be doable.

The problem is in allowing links to Twitter and then trying to enforce that the links only be verified and not just any old account. I absolutely cannot ask the Refs to verify every single link that would get posted.

Lastly, even Verified accounts have been duped and been a source of misinformation.
Yes, it is a very large site... but that size itself does not lend it anything in the way of credibility.
IF - strong IF - I ever get around to coding something that can check a link to see if it points to a verified account, then I may reconsider. Until then, it's just simplest to not allow it, and personally, I feel that we don't really lose anything at all by not allowing it.

I've said in the past and I'll say it again ....

Part of the fun in the free agency and draft times ARE the rumors.

Why not just allow us to have a thread titled "Free Agency Rumors" and allow Twitter there?

I can make a "Verified " twitter account myself in a matter of min. and I know very little about computers, and why oh why do you young folks think you must have everything and have it now, now, now. What is wrong with waiting a few hours and getting correct info

We had this conversation IN DEPTH not all that long ago. We have not changed our minds on this matter. We are aware that some posters are not happy with this, but we are sticking by our decision.
