This could have turned out so bad .

English boxer Curtis Woodhouse turns up on the doorstep of his Twitter troll
When the light-welterweight and former Birmingham City and Hull City footballer received abusive tweets about his defeat to Shane Singleton, he took matters into his own hands

When Curtis Woodhouse lost his English light-welterweight title on points to Shane Singleton on Friday night and he was branded a "disgrace" on the social networking site by 'Jimmyob88'‏, who has reportedly been abusing Woodhouse on Twitter for months.

The boxer was so enraged with the tweets that he offered his followers a £1,000 reward if they could help him locate the culprit. Woodhouse's growing number of Twitter followers chipped in and managed to track down his troll.

Woodhouse set off to find his troll, tweeting a photograph of the street on which Jimmyob88 lived. "Right Jimbob, I'm here," he wrote, adding: "Someone tell me what number he lives at or do I have to knock on every door #itsshowtime."

Realising the error of his ways, Jimmyob88 replied: "I am sorry it's getting a bit out of hand. I am in the wrong. I accept that." A triumphant Woodhouse went home, joking that he could have saved himself some petrol money by blocking his cowardly abuser.

Woodhouse has been hailed as a hero online, with Lennox Lewis, John Prescott and Joey Barton all offering messages of support after the story broke on Mashable.

Love the story. Bullies suck. Especially grown up bullies (who does that?) And that includes keyboard warriors/bullies.

Sure he's a good troll. But when a pro boxer is knocking on houses in your neighborhood looking for you, a keyboard warrior goes to a keyboard weakling.

And yes, the guy shouldn't have let this troll get to him. But this troll is now known around his neighborhood and soon town for being the jackass who insults a boxer over a period of months, but becomes terrified when he finds himself in the boxer's physical crosshairs.

I'd have blocked the guy. But I do like that this dude shows up to the trolls street looking for confrontation.

It's just something that pisses me off about cyberbullying in general. Whether it be that poor Canadian girl who committed suicide after some adult creepo is blackmailing her for nude pictures or a boxer who is being belittled by some loser who would never say that stuff to his face.

Dude can't win his boxing match so he's going to take it out on some anonymous heckler? Sounds like his priorities are a little out of whack.

Taking another side what if Ray Lewis shows up at your house after seeing what you ( not you specifically) wrote about him ? So what if this troll comes out of his house knowing he is facing a professional boxer who made some none too thinly veiled threats of violence against him and stabs the boxer to death ?

I don't write on Ray Lewis' twitter. That's the big difference.

I don't go on another player's twitter and attack them. I might have been making fun of Ralph Brown on this message board, but I don't go to Ralph Brown's facebook page and write about how his accomplishments are worthless.

As for the guy coming out of his house with a knife, that's an aspect I never thought of. I guess you have a point there, but the guy didn't. Instead he backed off all his comments about the boxer

If it's a 1 time thing, you blow it off, but over months it gets on your nerves, especially on something like a "personal" page versus a general forum.

Hopefully cyber-bullies took note that sometimes they may have to answer to their bravado.

agreed.

though, as I was reading, I was so hoping that the troll was going to turn out to be Lennox Lewis and this bounty-boxer was going to run home to mommy.

I think that's great. There's way too much hiding behind a keyboard with an anonymous screen name going on these days. If you're going to talk tough, you should have the courage to identify yourself and back up your words.

If your a famous anything and put yourself out there you have to be ready forthis stuff. There areways in place to block/ignore/report things. Grow up, you can't go door to doorbeating people up because they hurt your feelings.

When a baseball player goes into the stands he's called insane.

There's a lot of brave a$$holes who hide in a crowd as well.

The athletes that earn respect can't hear them.

Guys like Derek Anderson go down as cry babies.

I guess there's a difference in making a statement against a constant pest on Twitter and I'm not sure how it works, but can't you just block them?

I doubt the boxer was really planning on doing the guy harm.

It was probably more of a "calling out" the internet tough guy.

Kevin Smith from Jay and Silent Bob owns a comic book shop, and is featured on "Comic Book Men" on AMC.

Not mention this guy was probably trespassing or at least stalking, could have been arrested, and maybe if a creative lawyer got involved sued for emotional distress, assault..etc. This was stupid and boxer is lucky he didn't end up being arrested.

Just because someone exercises their right to free speech doesn't give you the right to assault, battery or trespass against that person.

This happened in England. Don't think they are as litigious as we are, and it's not trespassing if he never makes it to his house, assuming their trespassing laws are similar to ours, he only got as far as the guy's street.

And if he's on the street, then it's only illegal if he has a pop tart shaped like a gun.

I believe, and I need to check to make sure, but in England, the rule is, if you bring action against someone and you lose, you pay all costs, including the other persons attorney fees.. It puts the Kibosh on frivoless (sp) lawsuits..

that doesn't sound right, I gotta check on that.. I think I'm wrong...

yes, he only got as far as the guy's street. but, what if he made it to the guy's house and rang the doorbell? pounded on the door?

not sure what the law is there, but if there is a streaming history of threats on twitter about tracking him down and "doing harm to him", followed by the scared guy apologizing and asking him to go away, and the guy continues to pursue the matter banging on the door, then would the guy be in the right to shoot him?

pretty solid case for defending yourself built in right there.
