The Lions reportedly offered Cliff Avril a three-year, $30 million contract last year. Avril declined, instead signing the franchise tender, playing last season for $10.5 million, and then testing free agency again this year.
In other words, he bet on himself. And he lost.
According to ESPN, Avril has agreed to a two-year, $15 million deal with the Seahawks. That means Avril will end up making a total of $25.5 million for the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons — after turning down the Lions’ offer to pay him a total of $30 million for the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Players often like to bet on themselves by refusing long-term deals from their original teams and testing unrestricted free agency. In Avril’s case, that turned out to be a miscalculation.
The good news for Avril is that he’ll get to test free agency again in two years, when he’s only 28. But if the Seahawks offer him an extension after one year, he should strongly consider it.

They'll come.
But signing Avril would just be another 4-3 DE we had to convert to 3-4 OLB...
We've got two guys that can play 3-4 OLB, which gives Sheard (and maybe a Rookie) time to learn...
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

The Broncos continue to push their chips into the middle of the table.
On the heels of inking receiver Wes Welker to a two-year deal, the Broncos have added veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to the roster.
According to Adam Schefter, Rodgers-Cromartie signed a one-year deal.
The former first-rounder of the Cardinals, who was sent to the Eagles in the Kevin Kolb trade, presumably becomes this year’s Tracy Porter in Denver.
The Broncos also were interested in former Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. The acquisition of Rodgers-Cromartie would seem to suggest the Broncos aren’t.
Then again, we wouldn’t put anything past the Broncos, who seem to be determined to make a serious play for the Super Bowl in 2013.

Only one year for Rodgers-Cromartie. He probably wants to try and reestablish his value and hit the market again in 2014.

As of right now, Anderson has a job, and Brady Quinn doesn't.

Quinn will get a job somewhere.
The guy that has never done a thing is Jimmy Clausen. What the heck happened to that guy? He is third string behind Anderson.

Derek Anderson - proving that he's at least better than ND QBs in the NFL since 2007.

I think we need at least one but I would be okay with two. Except that I would cross DeAngelo Hall off that list. Big name, little production.

Matt Cassel signed with the Vikings. That didn't take long. They must've seen Joe Webb in that playoff game. Link

Talib...is about as good as they get. We'll see how this bottoms out a bit $$$ The lower it goes he'll probably only sign a one year contract unless the signing bonus is attractive. Hope we pick him up...flags n all

I'm not sure the Browns ever gave him a thought? was there ever a comment that anyone heard? or was it must media/fan speculation?

WOW,, Just wow. What makes this guy so special? is it just me, or do they seem to be reaching with this one. I'd be ticked off if the Browns would have done that.

when Chud was hired, Derek Anderson himself said that meant he might be heading back to Cleveland and he'd gladly go back there if the fans could forgive him.

Eagles sign Kenny Phillips and Cary Williams The corner market is shrinking by the hour. A lot of the old guys are still out there (Asomugha, Jammer, Hall, Winfield). Guys like Cason, Grimes, Talib, and Munnerlyn are still out there.

My guess is that the Browns end up with Captain Munnerlyn, which a may buy a jersey for the name, and Fred Davis.

Banner said today don't expect anymore big signings. I'd consider Fred Davis kinda big.

Haslam said a couple weeks ago not to expect ANY big free agent signings. I don't think they are being exactly honest. And, I don't think they should be.
