I think this significantly increases the possibility that Miami will call us wanting to trade up ahead of Arizona so that the Dolphins can get their new LT in the draft.

Is Bademosi still on the roster? I forgot about him....he was also great on ST.

Big difference really, in my opinion. Good solid signings vs defense changing signings.

How can you say that? They haven't played a down yet for us. They could be Solid. They could be busts. You never know. When we got Fujita and Watson and traded for Gocong everyone said that they were Solid moves.

LOL man, you are the one who judged them and compared them to Fujita and Watson before they have even "played a down for us yet."

No that is not what I was doing.

The discussion was about the last regime and that they were never active in Free Agency vs the new regime and the guys we just got.

I was comparing how people thought after we signed Fujita and Watson, both were Free Agents the LAST regime signed right???

People were calling them solid signings "at that time".

I was comparing the current signing and the general opinions to them to when Fujita and Watson were signed the the general opinions to them. It's not like we just signed 3 Pro Bowlers in their prime. We signed possibly 2 solid starters and a back up, rotational guy.

I'm just not seeing a big difference on the surface. I've heard all this before, I'll wait until they play and win before I crown the new regime as the saviors to the franchise.

The kid to watch at FS is Gipson
Bademosi showed me a lot of Determination on ST...can develop for CB he got a little playing time at the end of the seeason.
Skrine...when I first saw him I thought about FS cause of his speed but his best attribute is closing speed for Edge runs. What all have to remember SKRINE is very very RAW...heck 2nd round pick CBs traditional take year 3 to GET IT. What I do know with Skrine is I have seen improvement from year one to year two. But he was thrown out there earlier than expected due to injuries to Patterson n Sheldon Brown.

I didn't like the release of Patterson but maybe there was a Banner history with him and/or agent???

FS we need a general out there to make the Coverage calls n ball hawk without getting burnt. Skrine will be good if he keeps on Improving. I won't pass final judgement after year 2 of a very RAW Prospect in one of the most difficult positions.

I agree with you 100%. He is so incredibly overrated by so many people that you would think that his last name is Lewis, not Mauluga.

Well he is young n a starter...no interest was shown to him of any note on the FA market - So Bengals who have a boat load of money n I don't think they have been players much in this FA market are setting themselves up for some penalty of some sort.

2013, 14 n 2015 have to average 89% of the Cap. They are backing themselves into a corner That I can assume will come with Draft penalties

Luga is a good example of college speed n NFL speed. Also the Reputation USC n Long Hair has made over the years.

DQ - is so much better

As a brief reminder (or new fact for many) about Skrine.

Skrine was the top performer at the 2011 combine in the 3 cone drill, 20 yard shuttle, and 60 yard shuttle. He definitely is a quality athlete at the position. For his height his vert jump left some to be desired and I don't think he'll ever match up well against AJ Green or Anquan Boldin.

I've never seen a corner look as lost and over matched as Skrine.

Some games every play was like the Titanic going down and him holding on for dear life.

Didn't seem to me that there was much to build on there. He just looks like he doesn't belong.

I'm all for giving him another shot if he makes the team, but I will be skeptical that he will be successful.

2 years/$6.5 million. The article also says that the Bengals are thinking about moving Burfict inside and Mauluga outside.

Why they would move a guy who lacks great speed, and who has 3 sacks in 4 years to OLB?

I know that they are a 4-3, and that sacks aren't as desperately needed from the OLB, but they still contribute on good 4-3 teams. He also is not exactly strong in pass coverage. Moving him outside makes little sense to me.

Bengals re-sign LB Rey Maualuga, could move him outside - CBSSports.com
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on...a-cb-adam-jones

The Bengals have re-signed linebacker Rey Maualuga and are "closing in" on retaining cornerback/punt returner Adam Jones, according to the team's official website.

Maualuga made 122 tackles last season at middle linebacker, but at one point seemed likely to leave Cincinnati. He got a two-year, $6.5 million contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bengals.com reports Maualuga, 26, could move to the strong side, with leading tackler Vontaze Burfict taking over in the middle. Burfict, 22, excelled on the weak side last season.

"Rey is a big, physical guy who plays with a lot of passion and energy," linebackers coach Paul Guenther said. "He knows the defense and he can play a couple of different spots, and that's going to give us some flexibility as well as some experience in our room."

Jones was a key part of the Bengals' No. 9 pass defense and ranked seventh with an 11.6-yard average on punt returns. Jones played in every game and formed a strong cornerback trio with Leon Hall and Terence Newman. Cincy also is trying to re-sign Newman, who had 75 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble last season, according to Bengals.com.

A second-round pick out of USC in 2009, Maualuga has increased his production each season, going from 63 tackles to 75 to 88 to 122. He's missed only three games.

I see him as a nickel back or a dime back with great closing speed, not a starting corner. We need a guy like that, too, dont you agree?

There were times like the Cowboys game where I was legitimately embarrassed for him. He's a prototypical athlete for the slot with his elite agility but man. I just don't know if be has it upstairs.

Me too. I liked the guy.

Quote:

In 2012, Watson appeared in all 16 games for the Browns with 14 starts and recorded 49 receptions for 501 yards and three touchdowns, posting at least one reception in every contest. His reception total was ranked fourth on the Browns, while he ranked third in both receiving touchdowns and yardage. His catch total was tied for the second-highest total of his career

what get me is he made a statement that he like to see how the ref's are going to call the game. so in the meantime he has 90 yds of penalities finding out how the ref's are calling the game.

Hasselbeck nearing deal with Colts.

Hasselbeck is a guy I would like to have if we had a slam dunk young starting QB (i.e. Andre Luck). We need someone to compete with Weeden. I don't think Hasselbeck can do that.

I think that we are looking at a couple of guys who are 2nd TE level guys, or affordable guys with some issues. There are some TE available in the draft, and I would bet that we find one TE there.

Yea ytown I agree we can always draft one. I guess it all depends on the front offices outlook at this position. Id feel a lot better signing a proven guy tho. But that goes for every position.

Maybe we grab a top rated CB and TE in the draft .... and fill 2 need positions that way?

Maybe the Front Office actually likes Jordan Cameron, and they are looking for pieces to compliment him at the position? Who knows? Maybe they are looking at TE available in free agency and trying to steal one to add to the pile because they don't feel that most out there are worth the prices they are asking? There are any number of explanations.

Actually I .like Cameron, He's going into his 3rd year so it's time to step up, With him projected as our starter and the other TE we just signed from Carolina to be back-up we can always find another for a average price after cut have been made or during training camps as players get cut, or we can draft one (my preferance) in the 4th or later rounds

Also Question is our lack of signing a FA guard because of the guard we drafted from Colorado last year, Are we possible looking at him to step in this year. Sorry cant even remember his name.

I'd rather save money on the TE & guard positions and concentrate on the CB & LB areas.

And we need to extend Alex Macks Contact.

Ryan Miller is our guard from the last draft. From what I recall he impressed in camp.

He is an example of why you don't go blowing first round picks on guards

(Decastro is the other example )

The interest in Fred Davis leads me to believe they don't have Cameron slotted as a #1 TE. Barnidge from what I can tell was a special teams signing.

I would be surprised if we dont end up with Captain M as a CB. But that really will only push Skrine down to #4 while we try to sign or draft a solid #2 like Grimes or Milliner/Rhodes.

If we think Ertz or Eifert have Gronk/Hernandez like ability I would be happy to trade down and add that kind of firepower on offense.

Sure has stunk having FA slow down like this. We are likely to pick up at least 2 more guys, but the trouble is figuring out which.

Ryan Miller gave up two straight sacks when he saw live action last year. It was on the same move. He may improve, but he looked far from ready to even contribute.

Miller looked like a boy against men and was totally lost when he got playing time last year. On the bright side he can't get any worse and has to improve

I was not impressed from what I saw n had to laugh at some posters claiming him as a replacement to Lava or Pinkston. Who knows 2 years from now...but he has a long way to go before that is a thought...we might keep him as OT depth??? Right now I see him as a guy who comes in for PUNTS...maybe kick returns.

He can be easily upgraded. And currently not remotely an answer to much.
