Ryan Miller gave up two straight sacks when he saw live action last year. It was on the same move. He may improve, but he looked far from ready to even contribute.
Yes, I remember those two consecutive plays. Both got our QB (McCoy?) killed...

I was happy when we drafted him, I thought he was a very good choice, but so far nothing, that doesn't mean he won't develop .... JMHO

some guys left that i'd like to see us pursue. If we sign 2-3 of these guys, then I'd be really happy. I'm not listing any high-priced guys as I think we are done with that portion.
FS Kerry Rhodes TE Fred Davis (assuming injury checks out) OG Tyronne Green OG Matt Slausen CB Antoine Winfield (apparently only wants to go to contender) CB Quentin Jammer CB Terrence Newman CB EJ Biggers CB Captain Munnerlynn (yeah, I want us to do *something* at CB) WR (slot) Julian Edelman ILB Karlos Dansby ILB Brad Jones

Nice list, I'd cross Biggers and Jammer off and replace Slauson with Moore....other than that, pretty much my remaining wish list...maybe add WR Hixon and ILB DJ Williams, oh and FB G.Jones or McIntyre...and some P/K too
Still lots of holes to fill and we can adress no more than 2 via draft at best...

Ryan Miller is our guard from the last draft. From what I recall he impressed in camp.
I was at camp and my god was he terrible. He was the worst of ANY OL in camp. I couldn't believe him and Shugarts even played college ball. I was embarrassed for them. He was beaten like 20x in a row in 1on1s. Which stinks because I was calling for his drafting too. I don't know what his deal is.

I only didn't include Moore because I think he'll still end up getting a good sized contract from someone. I do like him.
I agree CB is weak, but I'm desperate on getting something in there for at least depth purposes.

He looked good in training camp and preseason because he can be physically dominant at OG. Once the games started he was confused and couldn't follow what the defenders were doing. Too bad opposing defenses wouldn't keep the vanilla schemes used in preseason games.
With time I think he could be a solid and possibly good OG. But I agree that it will take another year or two.
As for OT, I don't think he is nimble enough to play OT. Right side or left. In my mind he is nothing but an OG.

Easy big fella...I wasn't being a weeny there...I liked him when we cut him loose and thought he was a keeper back then.
Wasn't T Clutts a Brown at one point also? I'd take him too.

So there's only like 34 or so CBs left unsigned.
How will we ever fine a 2nd/3rd level CB? lol

I understand the logic in not panicking about the CB situation. Fans generally panic too much.
I just think it was a little silly for this organization to wait so long to sign a CB when: a) it was a buyer's market b) there's only two decent ones left — Asomugha and Grimes c) there's only one CB worthy of being picked #6, and he might be gone by that point, leaving only pass rushers, defensive tackles, left tackles, and guards (guards are a position of need, but aren't important enough to be picked at #6)

Why would we panic on a QB situation dudes? Weeden HELLO !!!!! was a rookie last year . This year he will be a sytem better suited for his skill set and he won't have a Head coach that's in his head telling him not to throw interceptions. ,I noticed Weeds game suffered after Shurmer did that Now we have an OC that's a QB guru,so.... nuff said I just hope the Front office doesn't panic and pick Geno Smith, that would be a huge mistake.we have some decent options. I just hope we can sign a starting caliber CB so we don't have to take Miillner at 6 several players I like better there Trade down even better

Shurmur telling him not to throw interceptions didn't matter, cause he threw them anyway. Things that can be improved, like opening your field vision and progressing through your reads - Weeden did not improve on as the season went on. Many other fundamentals like that, Weeden hadn't improved. That's really on him, and why I believe the front office needs to bring someone in here to challenge, and even take over the starting role.
If Weeden can't learn and improve under Norv and Chud's advice/systems - then its a full 100% official that he just doesn't have what it takes and maybe should go back to baseball... or join Tim Tebow in UFL or canada league or something.

First off,it is the coach's job to make damn sure a rookie QB knows not to turn the ball over.If that wee bit of coaching proves too much for the rookie to handle mentally, then that rookie isn't tough enough for the job. Secondly, your all caps user name is annoying.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

DAWG_LB I agree in principle to what you are saying, but my point is Weeds for sure has to improve on some criticle areas, but who do you want helping him out with that? Pat Shurmer or Norv Turner? thats all I am saying I agree we should bring someone in to compete but no Geno Smith at 6 that would be a huge blunder

BCbrownie person or whatever if you are having a hard time reading simple English,The only trhing I can suggest to you is go back and study up on it.further. Aapparently you have not retained alot of it what you learned in High School. My post was accurate and not hard to read. for anyone other than you How do you explain that? I thought this was a Browns discussion forum not your personal place to be rude and disrespecful to other posters.. I don't chew 't chew tobacco nor do I droll Enstien is that the best you can come up with? kinda lame. I guess you didn't like the crack pipe remark very much, sorry for that.. Yeah I was rude and called you son so what? I gave you back the same crap you dished my way. " obviously" I hit a raw nerve somewhere.. Still having a hard time reading my posts? then block me. Well, we started out with the rumor that the Browns were interested in Captain Munnerlyn ........ and he is still available.
We don't have to get CB2 in free agency. We can probably even get a solid #2 in the 3rd round. Not only that, but we might be in position to grab Milliner in the 1st round.
I'm not as worried about the CB2 spot right now as most are.

The 49ers got Carlos Rogers off the scrap heap a couple of years ago. I know that is the exception more than the rule, but there is still a chance we get a starter out of the guys left.

I second that. I got up this morning and saw 20 posts in the "signings" thread and started to get excited that there was some action. Imagine my disappointment!

i don't think many CB2's start right away from the 3rd round. i do agree that if Milliner drops (I don't think he will), then we're set there.
plenty of teams have gotten by with bad CB2's though and Baltimore lost Boldin and Pitt lost Wallace (and perhaps Sanders). So, it's not like our division opponents have guys to completely take advantage (though the Bengals have some good, young WRs).
i'm still concerned though.

I want to be able to chase down opposing QBs, and make them look at the rush before anything else. I suspect that our coverage will be improved this coming year if the pass rush improves.

if we sign Dumervil to a 1 year contract (we can offer better money than anyone but Cinci, offer stat-padding as a 3-4 OLB, and he can go after that big contract next offseason), then I'll take that as well.

Thanks for the signing updates. Just a little OL discussion.
Quote:

Well - also they cut the guys he was dominating - dominating Arena football guys is not NFL. I hope he develops. If he doesn't master the OT position I don't see any future with us...his value at depth would be at OT...I don't think he has the proper leverage needed on the interior...as depth it would help w/roster count if he is a swing guy OG/OT. We will continue to develop him until his current contract runs out. But to consider him as an Upgrade to either Pinkston or Lava just tells me you don't see what I see.
Willie...man I liked Clutts. It was Heckerts first move in the New Regime 2011 I know many were upset we let Vickers go...I liked him a lot. But it was releasing Clutts that I was like - "bad Move" - he is signed with Texans who let their H-back who beat out Vickers (Casey) walk as they added Clutts...that was our FB mistake.
We will not sign OL that are not upgrades to Pinkston, Lava n Greco...none of these guys being thrown around are upgrades.
CB we have Grimes still in our priority...we will not sign another until we have that target here or a definite NO. Once he gets signed elsewhere we will target another.
I know we got $$$ for Cap Room but all this coveting of MEGA FA to be brought here. This is not your 2001 Browns. We actually have a Foundation of young players n young starters...not a foundation of Expansion draft (guys cut by other teams) n try to upgrade on. We have 3 years of drafted/UDFA players on this team 30+ I'm sure that are here. We don't need to BUILD a team via FA cause we got Money. WHO HAS WON doing that. I see teams who get one or two year shots n then have to Dis ban the team cause of the Cap ramifications for dipping into FA that much...and usually those teams don't have young players that will deserve a 2nd contract.
We have not failed in the 1st n 2nd rounds. We got them all here 2010-12. Haden, Ward, Hardesty, Taylor, Sheard, Little, Trent, Weeden, Schwartz n Gordon. All starters...only Weeden having to establish themselves still (but our starter until beaten out). This is not your Browns foundation past...Forgot Hardesty...not a bust but has injury issues n considered a backup. But we never had this kind of success from our first two rounds of picks. These are our Foundation.
FA is not to add like 10 guys to our roster. Its been proven that getting all to play as one is a difficult task than to get drafted players playing together. I don't get this VAST LIST OF FA TO GET...like we are building some Fantasy team or trading players around on a Madden game (never played Madden but read enough to know you can move players around). My point is this is not a PAPER GAME...Its not about Quantity not when you got an very good foundation of players with only 1,2,3 years of experience n still getting better - TOGETHER. I just don't get it.
New D so we adding players who fit into it. 3 guys! we would like to add a CB...that I'm sure of. O we actually have more guys who fit the new system than the Old one - whatever that was
But More is not BETTER! JMHO
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

+1 in addition it would keep him out of Baltimore and Pittsburgh (he's rumored to both) adding Dumervil could really lift this D...imagine an OT trying to figure if he should help block Rubin on the end while the protection is slid to defend against Dumervil...meanwhile he has Sheard and Kruger flying past him...adding a big piece to the puzzle simply makes sense
