NFL wideout Donte' Stallworth suffered some burns but is expected to be OK following a hot air balloon accident Saturday morning.
Mike Garafolo and Tim McGarry, USA TODAY Sports

Free agent wide receiver Donte' Stallworth suffered at least some burns but is expected to be OK following a hot air balloon accident Saturday, his agent told USA TODAY Sports.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus, in an e-mail to USA TODAY Sports, wrote of Stallworth, "He's ok. Has some burns but he will be fine. "He will be able to continue his NFL career. The injuries are not to the extent they will jeopardize his career."

ESPN Boston was the first to report the accident.

The Associated Press reported that Stallworth has "serious" burns and had been hospitalized. AP said the basket carrying three hot air balloon passengers crashed into the power lines in South Florida while airborne, according to Miami-Dade Police spokesman Roy Rutland. Two passengers were transported to a trauma center, Rutland said. A third was not injured.

Rosenhaus said one of the passengers was Stallworth's girlfriend, but he would not say whether she was hurt.\

Rutland referred news media to the National Transportation Safety Board. The NTSB had no immediate information about the crash.

Stallworth was signed by the New England Patriots in 2012, but he was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury following the Patriots' Week 14 win over the Houston Texans.

Stallworth spent 24 days in jail for a DUI manslaughter conviction when the car he was driving struck and killed a pedestrian in South Florida in 2009. He was suspended for the 2009 season.

Who cares... Stallworth is a total bum and is a murderer. Anything negative that comes his way, IMO, is well earned...

I am certainly not going to excuse Stallworth, but at least didn't pretend that what he did never happened. He owned up to what he did, did his time, and paid the financial price as well.

Did his time? I am sorry but if it wasn't for his "financial price" - meaning paying and buying your way outta a crime - he'd still be "doing his time". This guy is a bum that used his money to become a bigger bum.

I am not expecting everyone to have the same opinion as me, so no offense to anyone. But just b/c money can buy you out, doesn't mean "justice" was served...

The victim's family did not have to accept the money. They did, and that's why it was settled. No one forced them to do so.

Wasn't the guy killed crossing a rather wide and heavily traveled highway while not using the designated crosswalks? To me that makes him just as responsible for his own death.

Yes.

Stallworth is as much a murderer as a guy who hits a deer with his car on I-90 is a hunter.

Point, valid points, made by the above comments. In which I also add that I respect and won't even deny/argue with. Legit comments that we will just need to agree, to disagree on.

Are you serious? Stallworth was driving drunk and killed a man and you're saying the man who died is as culpable? And Stallworth wasn't just drunk but he was speeding too!

The guy was jaywalking across the MacArthur Causeway in morning traffic.

I don't know if one would say that he's "as culpable", but, yeah, if you get hit by a car in that scenario - drunk driver or otherwise - you do have yourself to blame to an extent. It doesn't let Stallworth off the hook any, but, yeah, sadly, to an extent that guy's got some culpability in his own demise.

Agreed.

The guy has some culpability for trying to sprint across the highway in a no crossing zone.

Let's put this out there: if the guy that died had been drunk, and Stallworth had had nothing to drink yet still did everything else exactly the same, he wouldn't have been prosecuted.

The way things panned out though - it was an easy bust. Stallworth had been drinking - consequently, he's "guilty".

Stats on "alcohol related accidents" are so skewed.......because even if it's not the fault of the person that had a bac of .02, or .05 (theoretically legal bac's) it's still listed as "alcohol related".

Suppose you're driving down the road after having had 4 beers in a 2 hour time period. A completely sober driver runs a red light and hits you. It's still an "alcohol related" accident, and more than likely, you'll be found culpable and charged. The old "if only that guy hadn't had a bac of .04 he would've known the sober guy was going to run a red light and been able to avoid the accident."

And yes, Stallworth was over the legal limit if I remember correctly........and he did what he should have: stopped his car, waited for the cops, etc.

I was in a pickle last night. We went to an athletic boosters function, I had 4 or 5 beers....and my wife didn't drink so I had a DD, or so I thought. When we got to the Jeep, we discovered that she wasn't able to drive because she took a tumble and strained her hand ligaments the night before (not alcohol related lol). I chanced it and drove home, because I was parked in a part of town where you don't really want to leave your vehicle overnight. I wasn't drunk or anything, but was probably over the limit. The first time I've done that in at least 15 years, and because of this thread I was hyper vigilant. I'm paranoid in my old age.

Attention seeking is a bad look.

Here's how ignore works - when you don't want to read someone, you put them on ignore and forget about it.

What you're doing is the thing where you try to get attention by pointing out to someone that you're ignoring them, which isn't ignoring them, but is, in fact, attention seeking. It happens most often at the adolescent/middle school age (and occasionally here at DawgTalkers).

I wasn't offened. I just saw them as simplistic.

I read the boards. You are a new guy, so I read your post.

Now I think you have little to offer. I didn't know before.

Now I'll skim your posts for a while until you redem yourself or prove beyond a shadow of a doubt you have nothing to offer and simply skip your comments.

Agreed. Had Stallworth not been drunk, he would not have been at fault.

As Arch was saying, sometimes folks with large BAC get charged for accidents that weren't their fault. And sometimes people below the limit are still placed at fault for accidents that weren't their fault.

You're driving down the highway after having 3 beers. You're in control, focusing on your business. Someone pulls out right in front of you, there's no way you can slow down enough sober or not, and you hit them. Sadly, the driver of the vehicle is badly injured.

You're going to be in a heck load of trouble, that you wouldn't have been in had you not had those three beers (even if the accident would be the same exact way)
