Well, I have 2 answers, 1, and more than 3. I think the Browns will stick with the first kicker they choose, because they'll chose the right one. They always seem to, its about the only thing they almost always get right.
So, to answer, how many to find a kicker who can kick in the blustery Cleveland. One, and I think he'll be like Matt Bahr. Pretty good, as long as it's in the 43 yards or less range, and just not having the leg to kick it over 46 ish.
But how many until they find the next Phil Dawson? Cmon? There juse isn't another Phil Dawson out there.
Phil was like 99.9% in the 51-53 yard range, and he'd kick 3 a game, or always hit a hard kick in bad weather, and he'd do it every week, all year long, if you asked him to. He was so used to those, that he was probably more confident from 53, than he was from 40 or less, just because he had more opportunities in games, doing those.
If it weren't for film and video, nobody would beleive the legend of Phil Dawson.
I once saw him bounce one off the goal post, then off the back post that holds up the goal post, then back out the front back into the endzone, for 3 points.
Yeah right.
I once saw him kick it 20 yards horizontal into a 40 mph+ gale force cross wind, with snow on the ground and falling, near zero visability, the ball curved back from the wind and through the posts for 3 points, to beat Buffalo.
Yeah right. Is this Paul Bunyon?
It will be more than 3 kickers before they find another Phil Dawson. Going with how long the Browns keep kickers, that would probably be about the year, 2052.
