Emmanuel Sanders' agent claims "several" teams made offers in restricted free agency, and that he's content to play under a one-year deal. If "several" teams indeed made offers, it's safe to assume none of them offered more than the Patriots' $2.5 million, meaning Sanders' market was still fairly soft. That is the rule, not the exception, for restricted free agents. Sanders' rep says he's "open" to an extension, but that it would take a "very good deal" to prevent him from hitting the open market next winter. The Steelers aren't allowed to lower Sanders' $2.5 million 2013 salary, so there's no urgency to get a long-term deal done to lower his cap number. http://www.rotoworld.com/playernews/nfl/football I thought this was interesting in that the Steelers cannot renegotiate a long term deal that would lower this year's cap hit.

Sounds kind of screwed up.
With that said, aslong as it's against Pittsburgh I am all for it. And also, next year I don't think they will be able to get him extended.

Wasn't sure where to put this, and I def won't create a post for just Steelers. But check this article. Sounds like Pittsburgh has a decent amount of holes to plug up: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/16/team-needs-pittsburgh-steelers-3Quote:
Running back: The Steelers keep saying they want to return the focus of the offense to the running game. That’s hard to do without a chain-moving, old-school running back. Rashard Mendenhall is gone, and none of the other in-house options conjure memories of Franco Harris or Jerome Bettis. In 2004, the Steelers were overdue to get a franchise quarterback. In 2013, they’re overdue to get a franchise tailback.
Receiver: Even with Emmanuel Sanders still in the fold for one more year, the Steelers need to think about 2014, when Sanders likely will join Mike Wallace as third-round picks who picked up and left after four seasons in Pittsburgh. The Steelers have done a great job finding quality receivers in later rounds of the draft; they need to do it again.
Linebacker: To vindicate the decision to cut James Harrison and later to rebuff his interest in coming back for less money, the Steelers need a solid replacement. Especially with Harrison likely landing in Cincinnati. Jarvis Jones presents an intriguing option with the team’s first-round pick. With other needs, however, using their first-round pick on a rush linebacker may be a luxury they can’t really afford. Unless Jarvis Jones is there at 17.
Quarterback: Apparently, Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich won’t be back, replaced by Bruce Gradkowski as the understudy to Ben Roethlisberger. It would make sense to spend a late-round pick on a guy who could be developed to serve as the backup over the next few years — especially with Roethlisberger’s injury history. He has appeared in all 16 regular-season games only once in his career.
Cornerback: Keenan Lewis is gone and Ike Taylor is getting closer to the end of the road. With the front seven not as potent as it used to be, the secondary needs to improve, or the defense won’t.
Tight end: A torn ACL suffered late in the 2012 season by Heath Miller makes the position a question mark for 2012. It could be time to think about finding a long-term replacement.
Offensive line: For the first time in years, the line isn’t as big of a need — in part because other needs trump it. Late-round depth would be helpful a year after David DeCastro and Mike Adams arrived via rounds one and two, respectively.

Steelers did not want to sign Sanders to that contract but felt almost backed into the corner to do so. A chunk of Cap that they did not wish to expend. One year so that Sanders can auction himself off via UFA. Long Term Contract they will have to offer much more than they would want. And lets face it Sanders is no Wallace.
Steelers have not had the Drafted success. OL couple of Interior first round picks both having injuries De Castro we will see if it was a one time thing. Adams tough sound kid but not close to our Schwartz...Not For Long...we can actually pass them as a more competitive team. They do have Big Ben which is the only thing really keeping them a float but the beating he has taken over the years is catching up!

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Legedu Naanee and Seyi Ajirotutu both have playing experience for Turner in San Diego and Chud in Carolina. They are logical guys to bring in, but both have been previously cut by Turner & Chud, so they aren't world beaters. Norwood and Cooper better watch out.

Yup. Looks more like Turner brought them in for Chud to look at than Chud brought them in.

He's been scouting on Tatooine again???
I'm not a star wars guy but I found this pretty funny.
Guess I'm not a really culturally-sensitive guy, either.

Well, if Harrison had to do any talking during these talks, I can see why they're having problems.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Probably more so Cinci knows no other team is really talking to him, so they want him for pennies on the dollar and I bet Harrison's agent is pushing for decent money.

TO, even at 39, across from Marshall would be a nice duo, albeit for just a single season most likely...
Chicago needs to worry about it's Online, because if they can make it somewhat serviceable, they could actually be pretty good..
Maybe give Cutler some piece of mind, especially if he's going to be dealing with guys like TO...
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

I am sure the only thing that could give Jay piece of mind, is if they finally do something to improve that offensive line and get him some stable pass protection.
