There is a lot of rhetoric and excuses going on. I'll address a few things:
Memphis said he had a feeling that the FO likes Weeden a lot more than they are letting on. Hmmmm, why would they hide that fact? Before someone says they want to fool people about drafting a qb, you might want to consider that Banner said we aren't drafting a qb. If the FO, and coaching staff, really liked Weeden.....they would say so.
tab: You tried really hard to school anarchy and said you weren't taking sides. If that is true, you forgot one important issue: What did your eyes tell you? Did you see a guy who read defenses? Read coverages? Threw w/anticipation? Had good pocket awareness? Was gutty? Had the "it" factor? Threw accurately on a consistent basis?
Look, I do think that Weeden will improve in some areas [I noticed no one asked me where..LOL] but to think that he will magically improve in all those areas due to a coaching change is........well.......you tell me who is trying to fool who???
Dj: You said that you didn't think Weeden played w/better talent than McCoy. You said my "myth." Really? Are you saying Heckert made this team worse while he was here? The talent level has digressed? Any fool could see the OL gave Weeden way, way more time to throw the ball than McCoy ever did. Heck, other than New England, I did not see a qb have as us much time to throw the ball as Weeds did. TRich was an upgrade. The receiving corps was better. It's no myth, Dj.
Btw-------I do agree w/you that trading up for TRich was a bad mistake. I was going nuts last year. I hated the top of our draft. Hated it. We could have traded down and obtained more picks to fill all our needs. There was great quality from around 15 all the way into round 3---for our need positions. Heck, and if they wanted a RB, they could have taken Martin at the bottom of the round or maybe in the second. After all, it was TB who was talking about making the trade w/Minni. And ask anyone who was on the other board---I wanted Martin all along.
This goes back to my feelings on Heckert. I don't think he was terrible, but I just don't get how so many think he was so great. He totally botched the first round last year. Trading up for a freaking RB from Alabama. Brilliant. Picking a slow-witted, old QB from a Spread offense in the first round. Genius.
