Funny, the article I read was something along the lines of "Mccoy traded to 49ers! Not April Fools Joke."

The Cleveland Browns traded backup quarterback Colt McCoy to the San Francisco 49ers Monday, loosening the logjam the Browns had at the position, reports CBSSports.com.

The Browns will receive a late-round draft pick for McCoy.

In three NFL seasons, McCoy is 6-15 as a starting quarterback for the Browns, and went 4-9 in 2011 when he won the job. He’s thrown for 21 touchdowns, 20 interceptions for 4,388 yards and has a career 74.8 quarterback rating. McCoy is scheduled to make $2.325 million next season.

McCoy lost the starting job last season when the team selected Brandon Weeden in the first round of the 2012 Draft. The team signed veteran quarterback Jason Campbell last month to backup Weeden, making McCoy expendable.

You know, I'm just glad it's over so we don't have to keep hearing how Colt was the best QB we had to run a vertical offense.

Weeden is the starter. If he sucks (a pretty good possibility) Campbell is the starter. We will draft a QB in the third round or later.

This is actually a great spot for Colt. If he has to play he can definitely do an Alex Smith imitation.

I don't want to draft a developmental late round QB. That's waisting a pick.

Personally, I thought Colt got a bum rap last season, I felt he should have been given a chance to be the starter with the better talent around him.. oh well those are the breaks.

As for Weeden, I actually want ot see what he can do in this offense. If we had dropped 10 less balls last year his completion percentage would have been 2 percent higher. He was a rookie (albeit an old one) and was in an offensive system that was not suited for him. Let's see how we do this year. I would not be opposed to taking a chance on EJ Manueal or Tyler Bray if they fall to 3rd/4th rd tho I would rather have a TE and CB taken

We got a 5th and a 7th, we gave up McCoy and a 6th.

Not bad. We probably were going to cut McCoy anyway.

The Browns have traded quarterback Colt McCoy and a sixth-round draft pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for one selection in the fifth round and another in the seventh round, a league source told the Beacon Journal.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports first reported today McCoy was being dealt.

McCoy became expendable last week when the Browns signed veteran quarterback Jason Campbell to a two-year contract. The Browns acquired Campbell, 31, to push incumbent starting quarterback Brandon Weeden, 29, who enters the offseason No. 1 on the depth chart.

McCoy, 26, started eight games as a rookie after being drafted in the third round (No. 85 overall) in 2010. In 2011, he started all 13 games before suffering a season-ending concussion as a result of a helmet-to-face mask blast from former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison.

The Browns drafted Weeden 22nd overall last year, and McCoy hasn’t started since. He appeared in three games last season.

McCoy has completed 409-of-702 passes (58.3 percent) for 4,388 yards and 21 touchdowns with 20 interceptions. His career passer rating is 74.8, and his record as a starter is 6-15.

In addition to Campbell and Weeden, the Browns have quarterback Thaddeus Lewis under contract.

The Browns had only six draft picks before the trade and wanted to pick up more. Now they have seven selections in the draft, which runs April 25-27.

I agree that they rarely work. But most late round picks don't make the team anyway. Might as well try and hit on the most important position.

We can use the later round picks on special teams guys. We can get a punter and a kicker. They give more value than a QB that will never contribute.

Best of luck to McCoy. Never had a problem with him as a person and I think he tried his hardest as a player.

Colt McCoy is a first class person. He's a hard worker and a good team mate. He doesn't possess the tools to succeed in the offense we have here, but I think he can thrive in a WCO system as a back up for quite a few years.

I would like to thank him for his effort and wish him the best of luck in the future.

Which 6th, the Browns had 2 173, or 175,, which 5th, must be 164 and which 7th? 227, or 237.
hmm.
It is a business.

Guess I won't be trading for him for a Jags 7th in the mock draft.

Give Weeden, and Thaddeus Lewis more time.

That is actually a really solid deal for him. It's far more than I thought we'd be able to get for him.

Good luck Colt. You'll get to sit and collect a paycheck, and there are a lot worse ways to spend a year or 2 by the Bay.

Considering the 49ers pick late in the 5th and the Browns early in the 6th, this deal was essentially a 7th rounder. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/01/mccoy-deal-essentially-for-a-seventh/

26 year old QB with $2million salary gets traded for basically a 7th rounder, that kind of proves that he didn't have any trade value. That doesn't mean that there was absolutely no chance whatsoever that nothing of value could ever be exchanged. Heck a few days ago I said that I would trade McCoy for a 7th rounder if that offer was on the table. FO did ever so slightly better than I expected.

I admit it.... I thought that there was absolutely zero chance that we'd get anything for him.
Granted, we got next to nothing, but we did get something.

sorry that analogy that we are gaining a 7th basically for this trade. Don't make sense. We got a 5th n traded back into the 7th. 5th rounder is way more valuable than a 6th or 7th both considered as Diamond in the rough rounds n strictly special Teams hopefuls at the best.

Anyways personally I will believe in this trade when it is still being reported on April 2nd.

I don't trust any new/deals/112mph pitchers coming from a Buddhist monastery.

So we got 2 5th round picks...maybe n instead of 2 6th we got a 6th n a 7th.

Best of luck...obviously outside of Preseason n an unfortunate injury to Kaepernick...Colt will not see the light of day...till 2014 when he goes FA n signs with the Texans or Cowboys

Good luck n Good health as long as this is for real!

Btw when his career is said n done...he might be a steal for a 3rd round pick???

JMHO

This is true. Like I alluded to above though, don't feel too bad about it. There's no way to know the thinking of 32 NFL teams and if one of them offered a 7th round pick and change, so be it. You were much closer to being right than those who thought he was worth the original 3rd round pick used on him or that he was going to be the starter.

It's not a bad deal for the 49ers either. That team is already stacked, they still have a boatload of picks, and what they gave up amounts to essentially nothing to them.

Is 173 confirmed it is not the other? Just asking.

All I know is we like Lewis maybe better than Colt or we definitely are drafting a QB - probably not overall #6, somewhere in the draft. round 3 or better.

Now we got two 5th rounder to trade into the late 4th. We have gained a draft pick in numbers...I doubt the 7th rounder will be the tool in a trade up. More likely the 5th that all of a sudden doesn't mean much.

49ers...got a back up QB for ONE season maybe...I suspect they might draft one Mid-Late round.

I think it is more apt for us to draft one now. I am actually hoping for a 6th or 7th for Lewis from Eagles (Shurmur).

JMHO...Lalich, Lalich, Lalich...lol
