Ok let me preface this by admitting to being elctronically challenged, that said:

I have a V1 IPAD, that will not take a charge. When hooked up to a charger, I get a picture of the apple logo for five seconds and then if fades away, it comes back a few seconds alter, again for five seconds and fades away.

I have tried pushing all the "button" combinations to reset it or turn it off or on and nothing.

Is it just shot?

Thanks.

Are you using the charger that came with it? The iPad draws more current than iPhones and (presumably) other smartphones, and it will run while plugged in but will not charge the battery with a charger that does not provide enough current.

Take it to an Apple store, I don't think there's going to be any thing more you can do on your own.

Does anyone have the iPad with retina display? Considering buying one and was wondering if it's worth it or not.

how long have you had it? Was it second hand?

The battery may be dead.

I have the iPad3. Love it, but can't compare it because it's my first.

My wife has the original iPad and I have the retina display version. She's as happy with hers as I am mine. I think you can get used to anything.

had it about three years, bought new.

We tried to charge throuigh Itunes last night and that did not work.

So we assume battery is kaput.

Probably cost as much to repair as it's work... time for an upgrade I reckon.

Thanks.

It's a shame, most of our toys are made to be junked rather than repaired.

Thats the part that scares me about tablets.

I recently bought a Galaxy Note 10.1, and it scares me that in a year or 2 the battery life will be crap, which would make for an expensive peice of waste then.

I hope the batteries in these thigns are better than the batteries I seem to get in my cordless drills that don't hold a charge for more than a day aftre about 6 months.

And why is it, that a new replacement battery never seems to have the life of the original. It's like what I call the light bulb syndrome. The light bulb that came with the fixture lasted 7 or 8 years, since the original burned out, the replacements only last about a year.

We really are a disposable society. They need to make better efforts at providing recycling services for all these electronics.
