What is considered name calling? I have seen what I would probably consider name calling in a particular thread where one poster appears to be "misspelling" another poster's username on purpose with that purpose. I believe it may be one of the new users who may have known the target user from the now defunct "official" forum. Is it frown upon in the rules or an actionable offense?

That is my thinking as well. It doesn't back up anything, even though I don't think the target of the name calling may be backing up what they are saying, but they are not really calling other posters names directly or indirectly.

I was talking about the target of the name-calling and not the person changing the username to be an insult.
This is not in the shack, but in the thread talking about gay marriage(at least where I saw it), though one poster did call them out on the name-calling to begin with.

That has gone on for years on this board and was not considered name calling. Calling somebody an idiot, or a moron, or a d-bag is name calling. The two posters you are talking about have gone back and forth for years on Brownschat They remind me of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau

I never liked it, never understood folks doing that. I always thought they were trying to be Rome Clones cause he does that kinda stuff and actually likes it on his radio show.
I guess they think it's cool, I think it's childish.
But, in all honesty, I don't think it's the true definition of "name calling" that we normally think of on this board.
When I think of Name Calling as it relates to message boards, I think of calling people idiots, or Aholes or f ing jerkwads etc etc.. Not twisting there handles from something like Rockdogg to Wienerdogg.. Childish? Yes,, Name calling, I don't think so.
Still, I hate it and find it rude.

Rockdogg's user name was weinerdog on Browns Chat, so that doesn't make sense in the context you are talking about.

Just to clarify, if someone were to start changing someone's screen name to something disparaging and do it in a constant antagonizing manner, that situation would be dealt with by the moderators.
