And the sad part for you is that you continuously reference ONE video over and over and over again, and still the guy you try to hate on (Ward) will most likely get a long term deal.
Well done. Keep it coming.

Of course he is. He's in the final year of his first contract. Thanks for the groundbreaking news.

That is, of course, he gets signed this year.

Those are nothing more than names, dime a dozen players who you recognize only because they play for the Browns. Seeing those names in print makes me realize how far away from good we truely are.
However ......
Many other teams take undrafted and late round guys and make plus level starters out of them. We need to do the same here and there if we are going to become a good team. You simply cannot have high draft picks everywhere.
Chris Dahl, the new starting FS for the Niners, (signed to replace Goldson) for example, was undrafted coming out of college. He is entering his 7th season.
Our former player, Mike Adams, who is now a starter for the Broncos, was an UDFA.
The Seahawks Kam Chancellor was a 5th round pick.
It seems like Safety, especially FS, is a really difficult position to fill. It is possible to find starters in the draft, through free agency, or even outside of the draft.

I wonder what the average turnover is on NFL team from year to year - I'd bet even perineal winners have a good amount of turnover each year...
How many free agents have the Niners and Seahawks signed this off-season? They will also add players through the draft .... with the Niners having 13 picks to use.
There is big turnover every year in the NFL. The good teams have their foundation in place, and then rotate through backups and their lower end starters.

Never said they SHOULD be starters. But considering the personnel changes, one of the two, or both, may get a chance. Who would you suggest considering the changes or lack of CB/FS singings?

would think we will trade or draft them. but really you can only fix so much in one offseason. hey who knows. maybe good coaching will do it. at least make it watchable football this year.

What "Overhaul"?
A piece o' junk FS and a soon to be 30 year old LB coming off an achilles rip?
That's no overhaul, that's called SMART MOVES.

What's funny is how so many keep denying the term "rebuild" while we "rebuild"!
U guys kill me.
Now if we start dropping guys like Gordon/Little/Mack/Taylor/Rubin/Jackson, THEN and only then can we start saying rebuild.
We're getting BETTER. There's zero rebuild going on.
All of u guys screaming rebuild are the same ones who despise Banner and Lombardi. Interesting.

Perhaps the term "major roster modification due to scheme change" would be less objectionable?

Banner identified 27 as the peak range of a player's career, and that was the age he went after in free agency. As the roster sits today, we have only 8 players over the age of 27.

Better or Worse? By Fred Greetham OBR Senior Browns Reporter Posted Apr 3, 2013 As young as the team was last season, it appears they could be even younger in 2013. As of today, 12 players who are 29 or older have either been released or allowed to leave in free agency. The big question is are they better or worse than last year at this time? It is well documented that the Browns had one of the youngest rosters in the NFL with half of the opening day roster last September either rookies or second-year players. It was assumed the Browns were building with young players and had a good nucleus of up-and-coming players on the team. Sure, the team was 5-11, but the general feeling was the Browns had a core of players that would only get better with some pieces added to the equation. The Browns had an ownership change and a front office change. The thought was the new regime might not blow up the roster and start another rebuilding program, but rather just add some pieces to the roster. However, a new coach, a new GM, a new system and it appears the Browns are rebuilding once again as several starters have been jettisoned or have not been brought back. Fast forward from the end of the season until early April as the Browns are just starting their off-season program and let’s take a look at the roster changes since the end of the season. As young as the team was last season, it appears they could be even younger in 2013. As of today, 12 players who are 29 or older have either been released or allowed to leave in free agency. The only players resigned from last year were three restricted free agents who are 26 or younger. Here is a list of players who were on the roster on Dec. 30, 2012 that are currently not on the Browns roster. We’ve listed the player’s age and status as Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA), traded or released: Phil Dawson 38 (UFA 49ers); Sheldon Brown 34 (UFA); Juqua Parker 34 (UFA); Scott Fujita 33 (UFA); Ben Watson 32 (UFA Saints); Reggie Hodges 31 (UFA); Alex Smith 30 (UFA); Ray Ventrone 30 (UFA); Frostee Rucker 29 (UFA Cardinals); Josh Cribbs 29 (UFA Cardinals/pending physical); Chris Gocong 29 (released); Usama Young 27 (released); Brandon Jackson 27 (UFA); Colt McCoy 26 (traded to 49ers); Mohamed Massaquoi 26 (UFA); Kaluka Maiava 26 (UFA Raiders); Josh Johnson 26 (UFA Bengals). Here is a list of players who are currently on the roster with their age and how they were acquired: Jason Campbell, 31, (UFA); Quentin Groves, 28, (UFA); Paul Kruger, 27, (UFA); Desmond Bryant, 27, (UFA); Kellen Davis, 27, (UFA); Gary Barnidge, 27, (UFA); Chris Owens, 26, (UFA); Kevin Barnes, 26, (UFA); Spencer Lanning, 24, (FA); Jake Schum, 24, (FA); Brandon Bogotay, 23, (FA). Here are the players the Browns who were restricted free agents that the Browns re-signed: Chris Ogbonnaya, 26, (RFA); Jordan Norwood, 26, (RFA); Christian Yount, 24, (RFA). With the NFL Draft a little over three weeks away, the majority of players that will be added will be through the draft and undrafted free agents other than late unrestricted free agent signings to fill out the roster as the team heads to training camp. Here’s a short synopsis of each position changes to date from the end of 2012 to now: Quarterbacks—Added: Jason Campbell; Gone: Colt McCoy, Josh Johnson; Returning: Brandon Weeden, Thad Lewis. Summary: Unless you feel Campbell is a better backup than McCoy, the position is pretty much status quo.Running Backs—Added: None; Gone: Brandon Jackson; Returning: Trent Richardson, Montario Hardesty, Chris Ogbonnaya, Owen Marecic. Summary: Position is status quo thus far. Wide Receivers —Added: None; Gone: Mohamed Massaquoi, Josh Cribbs; Returning: Travis Benjamin, Greg Little, Josh Cooper, Josh Gordon, Jordan Norwood. Summary: So far, the receiving corps has less depth than a year ago without Cribbs and Massaquoi. They will most likely sign another veteran or draft a receiver, but for the most part it appears the receivers they are counting on were with the team last year.Tight Ends—Added: Kellen Davis, Gary Barnidge; Gone: Ben Watson, Alex Smith; Returning: Jordan Cameron, Brad Smelley, Dan Gronkowski. Summary: On paper, Watson was a better option than what they currently have but they are hoping Cameron will blossom and Davis and Barnidge will pick up the slack.Offensive Linemen: Added: None; Gone: None; Returning: Oniel Cousins, John Greco, Shawn Lauvao, Alex Mack, Ryan Miller, Mitchell Schwartz, Jason Pinkston, Jarrod Shaw, Joe Thomas. Summary: Not much has changed since last season. Pinkston is expected to return after a serious blood clot, but the Browns could still add a guard in the draft.Defensive Linemen: Added: Desmond Bryant. Gone: Frostee Rucker, Juqua Parker; Returning: Hall Davis, John Hughes, Ishmaa’ily Kitchen, Ahtyba Rubin, Phil Taylor, Billy Winn, Brian Sanford. Summary: The addition of Bryant was a marquee signing for the Browns and the most depth on the team still appears to be at this position. Defensive line is better than last year.Linebackers: Added: Paul Kruger, Quentin Groves; Gone: Chris Gocong, Scott Fujita, Kaluka Maiava; Returning: Jabaal Sheard, Tank Carder, L.J. Fort, D’Qwell Jackson, Adrian Moten, Craig Robertson, Emmanuel Acho, James-Michael Johnson. Summary: The team’s biggest signing came with Kruger and the addition of Sheard to the corps. Groves is also expected to contribute. The Browns let Gocong, Fujita and Maiava leave and are expected their additions to replace them. The additions thus far have improved the position the most of any position and they could still add another pass rusher in the draft.Defensive Backs: Added: Chris Owens, Kevin Barnes; Gone: Sheldon Brown, Usama Young, Ray Ventrone; Returning: Joe Haden, Buster Skrine, Johnson Bademosi, Tashaun Gipson, Eric Hagg, Prince Miller, Trevin Wade, T.J. Ward. Summary: Near the end of 2012, the Browns released Dimitri Patterson and with Brown leaving as a free agent, the Browns are down a starter and third cornerback. They signed Owens and Barnes for depth, but cornerback appears to be a very thin position behind Haden. Young was released and he was the starter opposite Ward opening the way for Gipson or Hagg. The secondary still needs to be addressed, most likely in the draft. As of right now, it is definitely weaker than it was last year and that’s not good, as they were not very good there in 2012.Specialists: Added: Brandon Bogotay, Spencer Lanning, Jake Schum; Gone: Phil Dawson, Reggie Hodges; Returning: Christian Yount. Summary: The Browns let Dawson and Hodges leave and are trying to find the next kicker and punter through the free agent process. Dawson will be nearly impossible to replace with a rookie, but Hodges had a bad year. Most of the candidates they currently have for kicker or punter are not household names but rather “Who’s that guy?” OBRNotable quotes: "The additions [at linebacker] thus far have improved the position the most of any position and they could still add another pass rusher in the draft." "Defensive line is better than last year."

Retooling, not building a new factory really. Shedding some folks we have needed to shed. Hiring some new. Draft will tell us a lot later (Captain Obvious statement, I know), but it will tell us where the coaches see us needing upgrades. Just hope we get some lionheart types that want to play their guts out. Didn't have enough of those last season.

Public Enemy said it best.... Don't believe the Hype.
This is no different than previous rebuilds. The regime is taking this year to evaluate existing players to see if they can make them fit and it is in large part due to not being able to replace everybody that may not fit in a single offseason.
People that clearly are not in the plans in any way are being released or traded. People that are borderline, but have some promise are being given a year to see how they work out. It's the smart way to approach it for sure, but make no mistake, it IS a rebuild.
Browns is the Browns

Wait so youre saying that they will evaluate players, release or trade some depending on their age/ability/fit with the team. Then sign others to take their place? If thats rebuilding, then I guess every team in the NFL is rebuilding especially the 49ers, Seahawks, and Ravens.

I agree, but it needed to be.
Switching the style of D almost dictated we make some big changes there, and that is where the rebuild is happening. The O hasn't changed a whole lot. We really haven't lost or changed anybody of real worth on that side of the ball. Some might point to Cribbs, but he didn't do a whole lot for the offense.
Tight end has changed, but we will now have the guy playing who should have been playing a whole lot more last year.
I see it as rebuild of the marginal players. The only player we lost that I would have really liked to keep was Dawson. In that case I am not even sure we were going to have a chance to keep him. There is a good chance he wanted a shot at kicking in some "money" games, and that probably isn't happening in Cleveland for a season or two.

I'm not sure you keep note...but we have signed two starters this FA...2..the Ravens, who were up against the cap have signed more starters than us.
We let go at least 4-5 starters (not counting specialists), and signed 2...all that with the most cap room in the entire league, which means that if we wanted to fill even half of those open starter spots, we could have done so, but we didn't...that's telling. I'm not going to start a semantics battle of we rebuild or not, whoever has any clue should get it by now, but personally I'm disappointed in this FA so far, as I don't think we'll add much of significance at this point before the draft

Well of course you are right. Keeping only a few studs and replacing the rest of the roster isn't a rebuild at all! We are changing the D from the 4-3 to the 3-4. We are changing the O from the WCO to a vertical passing game but can use pretty much the same roster we had for the schemes of the former front office. What was I thinking!!??
No way we will have to make many sweeping changes because the entire D and O schemes are completely different.

Well ..... let's look at this piece by piece .... Code:
Position Year Name Year Name Change QB 2012 Weeden 2013 Weeden No RB 2012 Richardson 2013 Richardson No FB 2012 Marecic 2013 Marecic No TE 2012 Watson 2013 Cameron Yes (30+) WR 2012 Little 2013 Little No WR 2012 Gordon 2013 Gordon No LT 2012 Thomas 2013 Thomas No LG 2012 Pinkston/Greco 2013 Pinkston/Greco No C 2012 Mack 2013 Mack No RG 2012 Lauvao 2013 Lauvao No RT 2012 Schwartz 2013 Schwartz No DE 2012 Winn 2013 Bryant Yes (Upgrade) NT 2012 Taylor 2013 Taylor No DE 2012 Rubin 2013 Rubin Yes (Defensive Change) ILB 2012 (none) 2013 JMJ/Robertson Yes (Defensive Change) ILB 2012 DQ 2013 DQ No OLB 2012 Maiava 2013 Kruger Yes (Upgrade) FS 2012 Hagg/Gipson 2013 Hagg/Gipson No SS 2012 Ward 2013 Ward No CB 2012 Haden 2013 Haden No CB 2012 Brown 2013 Skrine/TBD Yes (30+) P 2012 Hodges 2013 Lanning Yes (Upgrade) PK 2012 Dawson 2013 TBD Yes (TBD) LS 2012 Yount 2013 Yount No KR 2012 Cribbs 2013 TBD Yes (TBD) PR 2012 Cribbs 2013 Benjamin Yes (TBD)
(Bah! I can't make the last column line up right) Out of the starters, we do have new starters in the front 7 on defense. However, most are guys who already started for us before, or who were signed to be upgrades. (Bryant and Kruger) We also will replace 30+ Sheldon Brown, who had an up and down season, but who was very good at times. On offense, we will replace the 30+ Watson with young and hopefully up and coming Jordan Cameron. That is really our only confirmed change on offense so far. Our special teams will see almost a complete changeover. We will have new players at K, P, KR, and PR. To me this is not a rebuild. We have turned over some guys on the bottom of the roster, and changed out some backups. We had a couple of guys leave as free agents. We added a couple of starters. We appear poised to let a youngster move into the starting lineup at TE. This is fairly normal stuff. If it weren't for the change in defensive scheme, we would have been taking about how remarkably stable things have been. A rebuild is what we did with Mangini, where we changed probably 10 starters, plus backups. . This is nothing close.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Sure, but only (re)signing 24to28yo and not even looking at 30+yo is as obvious as it gets imho
First we've been lied to regarding the GM-HC combination (one of them would be "strong", as in: experienced and accomplished, neither is)...now, we're obviously not trying to win in the next 2 seasons and start rejuvanating an already young team, after we've been told to not accept losing anymore. It's one thing to rebuild an old roster, but I'm not sure how clever it is to go into the season without even one 30yo vet starter and even creating more needs by signing less starters than let go...call it what you like, but it's not like we're even trying to win and the boss himself all but said so (13-3 comment)

So if a team cuts a couple sub par guys in their 30's and replaces him with someone younger its a rebuild? OK, good to know. Thanks.

I think the point is, we have cut far more than we have replaced leaving even more holes at depth and starters.
While the players "just cut" were marginal, will we replace them with better players? And where will they come from? If you say the draft..... How many rookies can you count on as being upgrades? All of our picks?
We have cut and allowed a lot of players to walk while signing very few to replace them. So where and how will these holes be filled? And what about upgrades in much needed positions?
I guess it boils down to us having even more questions than we do answers in many areas right now.

Well, when you put that up, it sure as hell looks like not much of a rebuild.
Looks more like cleaning house and getting even younger than we were.
We have the same Oline folks, picked up a few TE's, got rid of a couple of TE's, dumped a RB and didn't replace him, resigned one of our RB's.
Traded a back up QB that really wouldn't have fit this system (Ytown, you'd probably say McCoy doesn't fit any system LOL) Picked up a back up QB with tons of Experience who may even challenge the starter.
On D, we got rid of a some aging vets who've lost a step and cost a lot. We've added a few younger guys, we have a few younger guys already that may step up if given the chance by Horton.
We could still use another CB or LB or Safety.
I'm not sure what they've done can really be called a rebuild. Maybe the term is restock? IDK.

BIG difference between "rebuild" and "cleaning up". Must be careful the context in which those words are used. IMO this isn't a rebuild. From last season, we'll see a lot of the same name/number jersey combinations on both offense and defense as we did last year for the most part.

While the players "just cut" were marginal, will we replace them with better players? And where will they come from? If you say the draft..... How many rookies can you count on as being upgrades? All of our picks?
I do think that is indeed their goal. That is to replace them with Better players. As for how, I'd guess a combination of several methods.
Draft
URFA
Undrafted free agents (that's how we got Cribbs so it can happen and isn't it how Dallas got Romo) But that's lighting in a bottle kinda stuff. doesn't happen often.
Trades
Cutdowns (we'll drop a few, others will and maybe we'll get someone that will fit here better)
Will all of those be upgrades,, wow, honestly I have my doubts that that would even be possible.
But that's gotta be what they strive for right?

I understand what you're saying. The thing is, it will be very hard to do with those options. The FA market is quite depleted and we have no second round pick. which is one that you have at least a fairly good chance at landing a quality starter.
And people are trying to look at ONLY the cuts so far while it's still very early in the game. It's only April 3rd.
I do feel the O is being left alone quite a bit because there is not much choice right now. With a complete overhaul in the D scheme, there is going to be a LOT of turnover right away. Believe me, more will come. And some are simply being kept to "see if they can transition".
Many seem to be all excited about our LBer's such as Fort, MJM and others that have really proved nothing in the 3-4 ever. Nice wishful thinking but that's really all it is to this point.
Every regime that's came here since 1999 has openly admitted pretty much we will undergo a three to five year plan to rebuild accept this one. And that is exactly what I say will happen under this regime.
It will be no different than past regimes in that context.
You simply can't totally change your schemes on both O and D and not undergo a rebuild. Can it all be done in one year? Of course not. But as has always happened before, it will happen again.
The only real difference is we do have a better nucleus of players than before. A little larger core of players that can be attained. Otherwise it's simply a repeat of what we have seen since 1999.
The only hope we have is that this group has more success at it than the past regimes. And I really don't see anything in this regimes resume' to indicate that will happen even though I certainly hope they can.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

too visual n real - better leave it to the imagination so we can expound on OPINION that we are in a total rebuild.
Actually we are in a total REBUILD...Of system n team character by the Leaders/Coaches. Not by the players. The vast majority of our players were young Rookies to 3rd year players. Last year...we have kept almost all of them if not ALL.
Colt was the only Draft pick of that era that we let go n that was the only one we traded.
We let go FA that were gotten specifically by the last regime. Although Sheldon n Gocong was gotten in a trade. - Young, Watson, Patterson, Rucker, Parker, Hodges, Fujita, missing somebody...but outside of Watson n Patterson n Rucker...the rest that we have let go...which is 11 of them I remember they are all out there as available FA.
So we are not DOWN GRADING our team in the name of REBUILD...we definitely are getting rid of what is considered DEAD WOOD...The young foundation - TOTALLY INTACT.
Ytown - in your comparison I would Say YES for Taylor Position change.
Also I'd have to say Winn will have a very good chance of being the other DE opposite of Bryant...We have one less DL position. Got rid of one side DE n moved the other to OLB...the rest are our talented DTs...with the addition of Bryant. Just a solid rotation. I would say Taylor n Winn at the other DE spot will be an interesting competition. I think Rubin w/Hughes is a natural given for NT.
That is more system change not in player personnel.
Maiava n Cribbs were from other Regimes that lasted here both known for their ST contributions than a position. I see less change with our team than with the average NFL Team without a Regime change. Thanks to the solid core foundation of Young Players that we brought in for Long term. I'm sure over the next 3 years this core will be weeded out n upgraded as much as possible...again a natural turnover with NFL teams.

We have let 2 players go that I would have kept, they were Dawson and Sheldon Brown and hey Sheldon hasnt signed anywhere else. Frankly each move this regime makes, has given me more confidence in them.
Moving to the 3-4 is really the only rebuild and so far, I think they have been smart about it. Kruger was the best player on that Ravens D last year and he is just coming into his own. We also added Bryant and I thought he was a beast for the Raiders.
I applaud the moves this regime has made.

First we've been lied to regarding the GM-HC combination (one of them would be "strong", as in: experienced and accomplished, neither is)...now, we're obviously not trying to win in the next 2 seasons
My two biggest complaints so far.
Their mouths have written checks they discovered they couldn't cash.
And now Haslam is lowering expectations. I thought low expectations weren't acceptable. And before anyone gets their panties in a wad I'm talking about this quote:
“We’ve won 23 games in the last five years, won 14 games in the last three, so we’re not going to go 13-3 next year,” said Haslam, who struck a deal last summer to buy the Browns from Randy Lerner for about $1 billion. “I think what I’ve stated back to Aug. 3 [during my introductory news conference] is we’re going to do this the right way. We didn’t spend all our money in free agency this year."
Wow, where is the ultra competitive Haslam we've heard so much about? To blatantly state a certain record is unachievable? I don' care if it's rooted in reality. What a terrible message to send and a departure from what we were lead to believe this new leadership was like.
I think Haslam and Banner thought it was going to be easy and it's not. Now, they're trying to temper expectations.
Color me disappointed.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

He said that because we are going 14-2 next year.

Haslam, Banner and Lombardi are full of crap but they did make some good coaching hires and I cant argue with their off season moves.
