Colt likes it in SF better, because they "want to win" because obviously Cleveland doesn't want to?

It's likely more about the "want to win now" part, instead of we're (constantly) building toward winning at some point in some unknowable future. He didn't say anything wrong. He didn't do anything wrong. The Browns organization was/is a mess and until they build a consistent winning culture, it will continue to be a laughing stock. No reason to kill the messenger.

echoing too. well done Ytown.

i'm still curious about some of the FO decisions. not having what I consider a good plan at CB2, ILB, FS, TE, and OG among them.

but, as much as I love Dawson and Cribbs, they were both older and I understand letting them go. and Colt was ineffective (but Poet obviously loves him regardless).

All I know is that I'm hoping like hell that Kaepernick and Wilson are both injured for the inevitable Monday Night Football matchup between San Fran and Seattle. Watching Colt and Brady go at it with absolutely no dog in the fight would be comedy gold.

McCoy would smoke Quinn. Zero question in my mind about that.

You laugh, but clearly you didn't watch it. On paper it reads pretty pedestrian.

But that third quarter preseason tackle was a thing of beauty. It made me think of Singletary, Butkus, LT, Ray Lewis. It really showed potential.

Laugh at PoeticG if you want, but letting McCoy and Acho go will probably come back to haunt Cleveland as much as the Rocky Colavito trade.

Personally I think it's a pretty punk thing to do to Cleveland. When he makes that statement he is speaking about an owner and regime that no longer exists. But he makes no mention of that he just generalizes.

It's not his job to spell it out. He says it's different than what he's been used to... everybody knows he's talking about the Browns, it's not his job to specify which regime he's talking about or call out people by name or defend a new regime that he will never play with/for.

The simple fact is that Harbaugh seemed to take a frazzled, disjointed group of underachievers who couldn't get over .500 and turned them into a powerhouse almost overnight by changing the attitude and the culture... and this is something that none of our 3 owners, 8 coaches, 5 general managers or 14 QBs have been able to do.... maybe it will be different this time.

I don't really see how you can call him a punk for speaking the truth. Quite a few of the players who have left here and gone elsewhere have commented on the commitment to winning and the culture of other places and how it's different/better than it is here... and that covers multiple coaches and regimes... how many FAs have we signed that gushed about the great atmosphere? Rag on him for telling the truth if you want.....

If I were Colt McCoy, I would've left Cleveland with a bitter taste in my mouth.

The Mangini/Daboll stuff, the concussion incident, the false promise of a QB competition, the beatings, the losing.

And that's on top of being used to winning your whole life. It was probably a dark time in his career.

I don't think he's a punk, but I don't think he's a 'class act', either. He should've told his father to shut up about five years ago.

And while I don't think this statement is inflammatory, it is a dig. I know sometimes you have to think on your feet when talking to the media, but it's just as easy to say "It’s a great organization, and their only focus is: We want to win, and we want to win now. I remember being a part of that kind of thing at Texas."

When you go from one of the worst teams in the NFL to one of the best, it's hard to say anything about your new culture that isn't going to be seen as a comparison to the old culture.. "It’s a great organization, and their only focus is: We want to win, and we want to win now. I remember being a part of that kind of thing at Texas." You don't think people would have picked up on the lost 3 years in his career there and seen that as a dig? Let's see, the 49ers have a focus on winning, Texas has a focus on winning... hmmm who am I forgetting here?

Hard to know if McCoy may have thought he had a future in Cleveland with the new management team...don't know what was said to him by the new management team...did find this..

Michael Lombardi Thought Colt McCoy Gave The Browns A Better Chance To Win In 2012

January 23, 2013

Michael Lombardi the Browns new General Manager couldn’t believe the Browns would stick with Brandon Weeden, even though the team had a better chance to win with Colt McCoy. The interesting thing will be to see what happens in the 2013 season. McCoy who is still with the Browns could have a chance to start over Brandon Weeden. Lombardi thought McCoy had a much higher football I.Q. than Weeden and he felt McCoy could win when Weeden was losing.
I think Michael Lombardi and the rest of the Browns staff are willing to see what Colt McCoy can do. They didn’t like the things Weeden was doing last season and they haven’t seen what McCoy can do with some good coaching. Many remember the great days McCoy had in College and they think he got screwed by Holmgren and Shurmur. Even Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has a great deal of respect for Colt McCoy. Haslam is a big fan of college football and remembers the great things McCoy did in Texas.

For people to think that Colt is not going to get a fair chance this summer to regain his spot as the Browns starting quarterback they are sadly mistaken. Colt McCoy is going to be given every chance he can get to be the Browns starting Q.B. in the 2013 season. Lombardi already thought McCoy could win with the Browns over Brandon Weeden.

Only because our guru, Phil Savage, couldn't talk Al Davis into trading the pick to us.

If davis had a brain at the time, we could have easily been stuck with Russell.

Of course, we got stuck with Quinn instead ..... so ....... Thank God we got Joe Thomas out of that draft.

Ok that's funny and all, but you and I both know without doubt that that was all Al Davis. I can hear Lombardi saying, Yes Sir Mr. Davis, No Sir Mr. Davis...

We can still get Russell. He's trying to make a comeback.

And the scary thing is that some team will probably sign him just because of his physical gifts.

Didn't he throw a pass 70 yards through the goal posts, from his knees, or some damn thing?

Yeah. But the receiver was on the 20 y.l.

LOL,, that's the only thing I can think of.

I did read somewhere today that he and Banner are going to do a presser together on Thursday (tomorrow). That should be funny, I can hear the first question from Tony Grossi,

Grossi: So, Mike, why are you here,,, I mean you've never been a successful GM in the past.

Banner: Jumps in and says,, we have an emergency,, Mike has to leave to attend to it, I'll answer all questions from this point on.

I hope so as this incommunicato thing has been absurd from the start. If Lombardi takes some "heat" from the media, then so be it. Better to get it over with sooner rather than later. Then we can all get over it and return to (normal) business. I actually find Lombardi likeable...

LOL, The trouble with "normal" around here is that beating on Lombardi IS normal..

I don't find him unlikeable as a person,, I just don't see a reason to hire him as a GM. What's he done to deserve that job? His record as a GM isn't exactly Stellar.

That's a valid point, but how much of the past can be attributed to Lombardi, to Al Davis? We all knew Al Davis propensities so the division of responsibility for the drafts is unclear at best. Of current concern however, how much of his future record will be attributed to Lombardi, and how much to Banner. But I digress from the thread...

That's the million dollar question. Al Davis, Bill Belichek (Clev), Mike Lombardi? Who gets the blame, essentially?

The other million dollar question (can there be two?) is the role here? Is it the same some perceive his prior roles to be and nothing more than an analyst for Banner (like Kokinos for Mangini) or does Lombardi have a similar role that Heckert, Savage had before being let go?

This conversation has been going around in circles and we will begin to piece the roles together as the seasons go on...
