If they are known, then that's all the reason that they'd need.
I don't think they'd need someone to blow something up to justify dealing with that.
I say it doesn't matter because the knowledge doesn't and won't change anything. Having a "WHY" may help people that are struggling to cope with it, but that's about it.
You're dealing with an irrational act.... any "WHY" given isn't going to make sense and it certainly isn't going to actually be a good reason to do what was done. That means that knowing the "WHY" is purely academic.

They cant do anything about those unless they break a law. Its not illegal to walk around saying you belong to Hamas or Al Qaeda, or even have meetings about that.

If they are KNOWN terrorists, as in known to be members of an organization set on harming us, that is all they need. They don't have to wait for anything further. Known association with an enemy is enough.

Nope sorry, they have to break a law first. Being linked to a terrorist group or even being a self procaimed member isnt the same as being a terrorist if no crime has been commited. They are heavily monitored by the govt, so they would get pounced on, if they were found to be up to something. I am just saying they exist and that is no lie. So it matters that we find out who did this.

Oh, I didn't say that it doesn't matter WHO did it... absolutely, that matters. I said it doesn't matter WHY, and it doesn't. Big difference.
I question what you state though. I we KNOW - as in, indisputably know and have concrete proof that someone is part of a terrorist sleeper cell, I'm pretty sure that is itself enough to take action. In fact, I have absolutely no doubts about that. At the very minimum, there are laws against conspiracy that could be used. So, if we KNOW, and they aren't being picked up, then my money is that we're choosing not to in the hopes that we can gain usable/actionable intel from them.

They know about these groups in the usa. I dont know all the laws, or what constitutes an actionable offense. I just know these cells exist and are monitored by the govt. My point of reference is that I worked for the FBI. But you can google plenty of info about it. If I had to make a guess, it would be one of those groups. I'm pretty sure I can't post this here, but some of the folks at 4Chan came up with a collage of interesting pictures gathered from the Boston Marathon bombing. People with backpacks in an around the area, only to see other pictures of them without backpacks shortly before the blast.
Also a clear picture of a man who was holding what looks to be the very same backpack in the picture that the FBI released of the exploded bag.
Really interesting stuff. I can link it via PM or if you follow my twitter account I retweeted the guy who put the link out.

Yeah, I mean you can't say with certainty after seeing the pictures, but they are at least worth the look.
CNN is now reporting that investigators believe they have identified a suspect. I really hope they find this animal.

And now CNN is backtracking on an arrest. NBC has been claiming all along there isn't an arrest and nobody is in custody.
I think someone saw the report that they have ID'd a possible suspect and took that as they had someone.

Eh, what's the consequence of being wrong? Nothing.
Just throw it out there, and if it's right, then you get to say you're first. If you're wrong, you just take it down off the page and move on.

The latest is that the authorities have a few pictures with two men who were photographed right near the finish line before the blasts with large black bags. They have asked the media not to show these pictures just yet. I wonder if it's the picture in that reddit set that has been going around? There is one picture that kind of fits that description.
It was enough of a lead that the FBI cancelled their press conference that was scheduled.
I hope they can find these guys, because I have a bad feeling they will strike again if they aren't caught soon.

It seems like they would want these guys faces plastered on every media outlet possible. Unless they are worried about litigation if it turns out these guys aren't the ones who did it, especially if they are being racially profiled.

Showing pics only helps if you dont know the identity. If you know who they are, giving them a little sense of security will make them easier to catch.
