KNOXVILLE -

The FBI has Cleveland Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam's Pilot Flying J headquarters on lockdown Monday afternoon.

Neither the FBI nor a Pilot spokesman was immediately available for comment.

Media were barred from the Pilot campus and the entrance was blocked. Pilot employees were be escorting off the corporate campus on Lonas Road.

Knoxville-based Pilot is the operator of the largest travel center network in North America.

Haslam is the CEO of Knoxville-based Pilot Flying J. The company was recently ranked the sixth-largest private firm in the country by Forbes.

In September, PepsiCo President John Compton was announced as Pilot Flying J’s new CEO, only to step aside five months later when Haslam returned to the role.

More details as they develop online and on newsnet5 mobile.

I'm guessing it might have to do with the Boston incident, as a precaution. Hoping that its just precautionary.

The Brother is the Gov. Wondering if something happened to him?

OH hell, that can't be it, why go the family business HQ? that would be time to go to the home right?

Anyway, I have no idea what this is about.

I'm not saying they are, just hoping they are, from the standpoint that its precautionary. Hitting a trucking company, that's one of the largest private companies in America. It's a reach I admit, just hoping its not something serious that is happening within the HQ.

I can't find anything to link to, but the TV station I'm listening to is saying that Washington DC is on Lockdown. They aren't explaining that so I'm not sure what it means exactly.

DC & NY City are on high alert because of Boston. I think that's the reason for Jimmy's HQ.

Isn't it just truck STOPS. No actual trucking involved?

I'm leaning towards some serious wrongdoing...

A year ago, the presence of FBI and other police at the Knoxville headquarters of Pilot Flying J in Knoxville would have drawn little notice beyond Tennessee.

Now that the CEO of the company, Jimmy Haslam, owns the Browns, it’s getting some attention.

According to WBIR-TV, FBI agents and Knoxville police officers are at the company’s headquarters. A reason for the presence of law-enforcement authorities hasn’t been given, and a WBIR-TV crew was asked to leave the premises.

Haslam, the son of founder Jim Haslam, returned to the company as CEO in February.

It's not.

It was a raid, part of an ongoing investigation.

Quote:

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - FBI investigators conducted a raid at the Pilot headquarters in West Knoxville Monday afternoon.

All employees were sent home while investigators entered the business.

The U.S Attorney's office would not say why law enforcement was there, only saying that it was part of an "ongoing investigation."

A Pilot spokesperson was also unable to shed light on the nature of the incident.

"At this time, we do not know the nature of the situation. Pilot Flying J is cooperating fully with the authorities," a spokesperson said. "Pilot Food Marts, Pilot Travel Centers and Flying J Travel Plazas remain open and continue to serve the public."

Knoxville police assisted with the investigation.

WATE - Knoxville.

So far this does not look good. I hope Jimmy isn't involved if something illegal should surface. This would be just another black eye on this franchise.

Please do not be anything too severe.

Interesting, wonder what the issue(s) are that caused this.

Glad it't not related to Boston , I know people who are nowhere near Boston but locked down due to where they work (currently allowed to go home now - probably why I 'went there' with this issue).

I wonder how much of this is related to the new CEO being let go and Haslam returning to work there.

I hope that's ALL it is. But I tend to think that may have been a matter handled by lawyers. Not the FBI.

Like maybe his return has something to do with a situation needing his attention or concerning former individual in charge? This seems like an ambush raid. Hope we come out OK.

Well, last month Jimmy H shocked us by returning to "his first love". Maybe there was more to that story?

There's not a lot of info here, but the reader comments are full of speculation ranging from price fixing at truck stops to political paybacks from DOJ's Eric Holder for Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam's opposition to implementing Obamacare to something nasty showing up on someone's computer. We wait and see, I guess ... but I'm worried because Haslam's handpicked successor apparently had a change of heart after about 6 weeks on the job. That's very unusual.

They executed a search warrant so it has nothing to do with Boston. Since the IRS was involved one might presume a failure to report and pay taxes.....

If they look at the Browns' books aren't they going to wonder why Lombardi is on our payroll? Good luck explaining that one with a straight face.

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam released a statement Monday after the FBI and Internal Revenue Service locked down the headquarters of his company Pilot Flying J in West Knoxville, Tenn

"The FBI secured our headquarters today and informed us they are investigating Pilot Flying J," Haslam said in an email statement to the Knoxville News Sentinel. "We will cooperate appropriately with any and all external investigations and conduct our own. I believe and trust there has been no wrongdoing. The integrity of our company always has been job No. 1."

Why does an image of Richard Nixon, standing at a podium saying "I am not a crook" leap to mind?

I said today, it is EASY being a Steelers fan. It's easy being a Patriots fan. But it's HARD DAMNED WORK being a Browns fan!

Let's not try to jump to any conclusions yet. Referencing Nixon may be jumping the gun a bit. With that said, so far, it does not look good.

Lets hope this isnt something criminal enough to seize all his assets or somehow force the sale of the Browns. You never know what happens when a new owner comes in.

Doing just a little detective work I see that earlier this year the FBI raided and locked down the Service Provider Group in Knoxville. About a month later the CEO was let go. It is an ongoing matter and I know he just bought a house for about $600K in cash last year.

The Service Provider group among other things coordinates administration of payroll and employee benefits. What are the odds they take care of part or all of this for Flying J? Seems odd that this happened so close by within the last two months.

Coincidentally Gov. Bill Haslams Chief of Finance announced his resignation today. Probably coincidence but interesting timing nonetheless.
