I see him being in on the first two downs, then switching in Bark for the passing downs.
Run = Sheard Pass= Mingo.
And that is a train-wreck waiting to happen.
If that is how it shakes out, then you just have to wait for team to realize it, and then you will see them go into no-huddle packages designed to take advantage of the presence/adsense of the one or the other.

If it were just as simple as I did it I'd agree with you. I was just to lazy to type that out as a generalization. I think Horton will move them around/substitute with a line of thinking such as yours purp. I sure hope so.
I'd still generalize them like that though. Maybe not though. I haven't seen either play OLB so I don't know really. It would be great if Mingo could develop into a 3 down player. One or the other (mingo/sheard) has to elevate their game or we have two situational players.) *(good ones though imo).
And the NFL is a substitutional game now.

I wish we'd get Dansby even if we overpay on a 2 year deal. we'd have one kick butt front 7.

Yes, probably at the beginning. But the expectation, if drafted #6, is to become an every down LB. So, if this works out, Sheard is gone most likely. Not immediately but soon enough. If it doesn't work out, some FO's head may be on a spike. I have a guess who....

and if we went to a 4-3 look wouldn't Sheard be DE?
I'm pretty excited wondering what Horton will do with all these players. I have a feeling we are going to make a big jump this year.
I think if we went to a 4-3 look, yes both Sheard and Mingo would be the DEs. But here is something worth noting, although not necessarily indicative of what Horton will do here in Cleveland. According to profootballfocus, Horton ran a 4-man front 5% of the time last year in Arizona. Not to say he can't increase that percentage here based on what Chud may want to do on defense, but I also feel Chud may let Horton do his thing.
So we will see how flexible this defense really is. Remember what Horton first said about his defense regarding being a hybrid? He is said it's a 3-4. Period. It was only after a few days being hired, he retracted. We'll see what happens.

It's a good thing that Mingo played RDE at LSU because I'd have started to worry that Krueger, Sheard and Groves all played on the strongside last year and may not work quite as well on the weak side. What is that you say? Mingo was a LDE? Sweeeeet!

As it stands now, we should have some quality, way better than years past. I don't see one guy necessarily racking up Aldon Smith or JJ Watt type numbers.. However, if the scheme works, we should be a disruptive force as a team. We have Bryant, Taylor and Winn starting on the D-Line (possible) with Rubin, Hughes and Kitchen as backups. Solid there. For linebackers it looks to be Kruger, Robertson, DQ and Sheard/Mingo starting with James Michael Johnson, LJ Fort, and Groves as ket reserves (tho JMJ could force his way to start). That is just in the 3-4 look. It can and will change when we do a 4-3 and with an attacking def you may occasionally see a 4-4 and a 3-5 to showcase different looks in certain situations. This also does into take into account Ward and other CB, Safeties coming in for sacks.
Overall a young, hungry group in the front with more talent than recent years. Now if we can get another safety (Baccari Rambo?) we could surprise defensively. There may be other players that come available as well as we get closer to training camp.
We should generate a lot of pressure this year which will lead to some easy interceptions (except to Skrine who would either drop it or get a penalty going for the ball..

Where did you get that Winn would start over Rubin?

That doesn't seem likely to me, especially since Rubin is the epitome of a "big man who can run". (Plus that he dropped from 330 to 305 to play this defense, which should make him "run" even faster)

Only that I heard that Winn was working with the starters was all. It is subject to change.

Wynn was a beast last year. I really, really liked what I saw out of him. Hughes was mediocre at best.
We are going to have a deep and talented front 7 this year. Sort of exciting.

I think Higues played well. I agree that Winn stood out. No doubt, but I think the way we used them had a impact on that.
I have a feeling that Hughes graded out as well ( or close enough) as Winn in the eyes of the coaching staff.
