Yeah, it sucks that show is ending. It's just a nice casual comedy, which is a nice change of pace from many of the shows on TV now.

Maybe they'll replace it with "The Papdits". It's by one of the writers of "Borat" and freaking hilarious. You can check out the pilot here: The Papdits

They can all go as far as I'm concerned.
Look at the trend....................
Everybody Loves Raymond,King Of Queens. Stupid men that would be lost without their loving wives who are smart and pretty much wear the pants in the family.
No strong male role models. No strong father figures. Just a bunch of stupid men totaly lost in the world.
If that's what America sees as "great TV viewing",they can keep it. TV has gone to hell and make fun of the very people who pay the majority of the bills in this country. If you follow that kind of logic, have at it.

I agree with you about King of Queens, but I thought Everybody Loves Raymond was consistently hilarious. Boyle, IMO, was as funny as they come. I still watch that show once in a while. Look, it just a comedy. It's hardly something to get so bent out of shape over.

Oh,I'm not bent out of shape over it. Actually I find it funny that the public just swallows up such continual nonsense. I mean we've had this type of programming for generations. But if you stop to think about it,in generations past, there were still strong roll models out there left in the mix. You didn't find Andy Griffith funny? Yet he was a strong male roll model. What about Leave It To Beaver? Now that's a damned funny show! But Ward Cleaver? A very strong male roll model. Happy Days? Funny, but Howard Cunningham was no dummy. So while we've had Ralph Cramdens for decades,we had choices. Let's face it,King of Queens is just a regurgitated version of the Cramduns. You're watching 50 year old material with a new age twist. I'm not one bit upset by it,because I have a remote control and I use it.

Pit I have been making that argument for a while now, the "model" for a sitcom anymore involves a dufus dad and an omnipotent mom (who is almost always WAY better looking than the Dad)......
This probably explains why I don't watch them much any more. I used to find some humor in it, I loved Home Improvement... but then once every show was like that, it wasn't funny any more....

Hmm, hot wife with bumbling out-of-shape husband... Change hot wife to out-of-shape nagging wife, and you'd have something more realistic.

Does anyone else get really annoyed with her and her attitude?
She bugs me to no end on the show, because shes always got something to gripe about. I understand you dont have the show without it, but its always annoyed me

IMO, the problem isn't that there isn't strong role models on the sitcoms, it's that someone would look to sitcoms for role models in the first place.

Yeah,I guess kids watching dunces for dads night after night is a positive thing.

Kids watching dunces for dads isn't an issue if they have a caring, attentive father at home and realize the difference between television and reality (and reality television ).

I suppose if fathers don't take the time and effort to be role models for their kids, or teach them the difference between real life and make believe (sitcoms), it is a problem.

Whoa there... I NEVER said I liked King of Queens. Honestly, I thought it had been cancelled a few years ago. I just get tired of hearing people say that it is Hollywood's job to provide role models for kids. It makes things easier on the parents, but that is not Hollywood's job. That was my only point. I hated the show when my roommates used to watch it.

Pit I'm pretty much on your side on this one.. but I will say that kids under 10, who are most impressionable, shouldn't be watching sitcoms any way... and kids over 10 have pretty much already formed an opinion of their own dad, grandfathers, uncles, etc... and should have enough positive role models already.

Wow, I always ignored the show, but before reading this thread I never knew how detrimental it was to the American psyche. What an evil show!

I think the two work nicely together. I am not endorsing,or never said it was Hollywood's "job" to provide male role models for our children. That was never my intent. BUT,I used to watch VERY funny shows that had strong male role models and there was actually a message to the episodes. Most all the time,Andy Griffith and Leave It To Beaver were VERY funny shows! They're classics that are still being aired today. There were often times that my dad would use those episodes as an example of what he had told me. He often pointed out obvious things that these shows illustrated as far as life lessons were concerned. He was a very strong male role model and diciplanarian. He didn't use such shows as a crutch or baby sitter. But as a tool to reenforce what he was teaching me. And I simply feel with all of the viewing options we have, that on a personal level,I refuse to endorse the constant bombardment of inneptitude that Hollywood puts on the tube as Fatherhood. I just think we should demand a little more from them. And accordingly,I choose to watch non network programming on a continuious basis, other than sports of course. I mean what's wrong with expecting Hollywood to put something usefull on TV once in a while? Something that is funny, yet something usefull and somewhat realistic that has some real value to the family setting? I don't think that's really much to ask of them,do you?

Something being stupid, doesn't mean it's detrimental or evil. But you have every right to be "dumbed down" if that's how you wish to spend your free time.

Why not make it? Probably because no one would watch it. My family was pretty normal but that does not make entertaining tv, never has. Do you really believe Andy Griffith was realistic or representative of most American family life? I don't think so. Most peoples daily lives would not make good tv.

Ahhh... good to know we have such noble, deep thinkers out there. Just be careful to not fall off that steed of yours. Looks to me like it might be a pretty long fall.
Look, I wasn't into King of Queens. I didn't find it all that funny. However, one man's trash is another's escape. Who am I to judge?

Absolutely... Not indicative of all, but certainly shared characteristics of many....
As for the comment about realism not making good television.. that's the part I agree with most. Nobody wants to watch television about people who are just like them... in fact they watch television primarily to GET AWAY from people who are just like them. They watch television to feel better about themselves so watching other people make fools of themselves seems to be the way to go. Why do you think the first round of Idol is so popular? It's not so people can see the good singers, it's so they can watch Simon abuse the train wrecks...
