Falcons waive WR Kerry Meier:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/22/falcons-waive-wide-receiver-kerry-meier/

Rookie year = knee injury, next playing year no stats. Sounds like a Robo to me in terms of being worthless hahaha.

I love the comment under the story:

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I remember liking Meier coming out of college. He has done nothing.

Was waiting for this. Call me crazy, there is no way I am paying a guy coming off a season ending injury $16 million a year. That's crazy, for a cornerback? Insane.

The bucs are going to feel that nhamdi asmough type regret real soon.

Yeah, I don't see what the Bucs are doing. They could have drafted a CB, maybe not Milliner but a good one. And, of course, they could have used free agency to get a much cheaper corner without giving up any picks. There's only 1 Revis, but to give up draft picks AND that type of money? They are paying both ways.

They're going to pay him this year, so $16 million is guaranteed. For what they gave up for him, even if he craps the bed this year, he'll still be on the team next year and get paid another $16 million. So, essentially, $32 million is guaranteed even if the paperwork doesn't explicitly says so.

Now, if he somehow got into legal trouble and was cut or found himself dead in some tragic manner, the team wouldn't be on the hook to pay that guaranteed money to anyone.

Again very very probable but not guaranteed. There is no "SO its Guaranteed" Again there is no signing Bonus usually seen with 12 - 20 million on top of the salary...NOT Guaranteed. There are some roster bonuses n not that high.

You also state 2014 is basically guaranteed. Not if his Injury shows that he simply is not the player he once was. Yes if he is playing up to High expectations...of course he will still get paid.

But if there is future CAP problems he will be a player that will be looked at cause there will be no dead money if the trade or release. He plays great. Tampa does not have Cap Problems...Sure I expect him to realize his contract - so does Revis. this doesn't make it Guaranteed in any way. Obviously he will see 2013 at Tampa. It makes it very probable not guaranteed. It would have to be unusual circumstances for him not to get paid in 2013...just not guaranteed. Semantics??? I don't know maybe...but a none guaranteed contract of any nature especially no Signing Bonus is a landmark contract n outside of the draft pick lost has Tampa in control. Will this become a wave of the future? Or a one time ever...if he sees most of the contract we might see more of them made.

If Revis is anything close to what he was before the injury, the Buccaneers stole him. He was one of the top ten players in the league.

The difference is not a penny of that is guaranteed. So half way through the year, if they find he can't cut it, they throw him out and all they lose is what they paid him up to that point. And some picks.

Low Risk, High potential reward...

yes and no. As a vested veteran, his salary this year will be guaranteed the moment he is on the roster for Game 1.
Other than that, yes, nothing is guaranteed (aside from any part of it that is signing bonus).

While he can be released without any additional cap hanging over his head, that's actually a reason to keep him on the roster if he performs adequately at the position.

They'll keep him around for at least the first season, thereby, paying him $16 million. Of course, there is still a guarantee if he gets injured. For example, he could get $8 million though the first 8 games, suffer a season-ending injury and receive the full $16 million.

Dang,, I forgot about the Vesting thing. Well then max out of pocket is 16 million..

If he can play like the Revis of old,, that's still high but not so bad really.

If he can't play,, they dump him..

I'm kinda rooting against Revis, as mean as that may sound. I just hate his attitude. Haden plays well, yet he doesn't run his mouth. Most other top corners play well, yet they don't have itchy tongues and a media stunt whore.

But whatever, if he comes good good for him. If he sucks, better for me I guess...

it's a no-win situation.

if Revis becomes Revis of old, then he'll be running his mouth about how the Jets are were idiots for letting him go.

if Revis fails, then Rex will be running his mouth about how smart he is and that he never liked the shape of Revis' feet.

The only can hope for is that Revis only plays average and that the Jets keep Sanchez at QB. That should be enough to keep everyone quiet (ok, not really, but I can hope).

I don't like Revis because he held out twice in five years or something...maybe that's him or the encouragement of his agents, I don't know. Either way, it's all about him. Not the team he plays for. But from a talent standpoint, he's unbelievable. As much as I don't like Mangini, he had a wonderful take and video breakdown on Revis today on his strengths. It was really nice to see.

However, the trade/deal he signed Tampa was just a way to get him to the team. My guess is in two years, if not next year, the team will approach his agents and get something structured....a lower base with guaranteed money, as he will be a couple years older. If not, he'll get released, and based on the fact no other team was interested in him because of injury and increasing age, my guess is that they'd listen. The agents got a honeymoon salary of $16M for one or two years at the most, that's it.

Revis will get his money, while basking as the highest paid CB for one or two years. The agents will get a new home or two out of it. Then, they arrive to the bargaining table again. A place Revis & Co. has been far too often.

I think there is a larger issue potentially. Outside of lower rated players, this is the first time a big name player is taking such a large amount of money non-guaranteed from what I recall. We may begin to see this with older players looking for that final, big contract but instead get something like this. Maybe not to the level of Revis' deal, but higher than what they'd get looking for that final guaranteed money. It will be interesting to see how this contract affects future ones.

And for all intents and purposes, you might as well. If the guy makes the squad for game one, the team isn't going to cut a player like him 6 games in to the season.

If he is hurt, which is the only reason they might because he isn't playing well, they can't.

Shaun Phillips signs with the Broncos.

I agree. That and the see some potential holes being filled and become realistic in what they want in pay.

That wouldn't be bad.

As the draft winds down over today and the next few days of media frenzy, I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't sign another player or two.

I hope we do, including extending a player or three and get that wrapped up on this years books.

An idea I heard somewhere:

Why not try pitching our extra 3rd (and maybe the extra 4th) to the Bills to grab Jairus Byrd?. He seems to fit our plans (26yo, 18 picks in 4 years, attacks the ball). We have extra picks and a ton of cap room.

Byrd is reportedly not going to show up to OTAs in Buffalo, and the Bills picked up two safeties in the 4th/5th rounds.

We'll probably have to sign him to a pretty decent deal - but it will really shore up our D long term.

He said he's willing to change to an h-back/TE Position if need be. Could sign for short money with the Jets picking up the majority of the tab too I think.

No thanks. Just for my own health, because you know after week one we'll have to hear the "they should put Tebow in at QB for a spark"

For the love of all things holy, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

The guy sucks. He was great in college, but what he does doesn't work in the NFL. I'm actually surprised he did as well as he did for that one half year.

I do think that Lewis gets released, and we will have an open slot for a 3rd guy, but I'm hoping it's a real QB and not a guy who will just bring all this nonsense with him.

I always liked Tebow but all the media that comes with him could be distracting, but honestly, if they can find the right role for him, I'd have no problem with bringing him here.

They won't do it of course, but I'd have no problem with it at all (Gotta be the right role however)

why not ??? He can win games, and is fun to watch play... The Browns might win what 3 to 4 games this year, after this draft of projects and drug dealers , the FO has already given-up on winning this year, anyway. So give me a reason to watch.

As was said on this board after the draft, the Browns will have a hard time selling season tickets this year, when they made it clear that next year's draft is the focus.
